    Warm professional safe senior community

I toured this gorgeous, well-run community and felt immediately at ease. The staff - especially Missy and Jenn - are warm, professional and attentive, residents are friendly, and the place feels bright, clean and home-like. With delicious meals, plentiful activities and outings, strong memory-care and a real focus on dignity and safety, it's a very solid choice for aging in place.

    Summary of reviews

The Blake at Colonial Club is described overall as a new, attractive, and well-appointed senior living community with a strong emphasis on comfortable common areas and senior-friendly apartment design. Many comments highlight the facility's cleanliness, attention to interior detail, and modern finishes; common-area amenities such as a salon, pilates room, pool table and piano, and a lift-equipped bus support socialization and mobility. The physical environment and layout are frequently cited as strengths for residents who want an active, home-like setting.

Dining and activities are recurring positives. Reviewers describe above-average meals, three-course dining and homemade desserts, plus snack-bar options. At the same time there are mentions of occasional lunch-menu availability issues, so while the food quality is generally praised, mid-day dining logistics may be inconsistent. The activities program is a clear asset: regular music, religious services, games, exercise classes, and frequent outings to restaurants, theaters, grocery stores and cultural sites contribute to an engaged social atmosphere and high resident satisfaction.

Care and staffing present a mixed picture. Numerous accounts praise compassionate, professional, and responsive staff members and identify strong memory-care leadership and teams. Conversely, there are also substantive operational concerns: staffing shortages, inconsistent caregiver continuity, and variability in personal-care and ADL support were specifically raised. These issues appear to produce variable day-to-day resident experiences — some families describe reliable, attentive care, while others experienced lapses in assistance. For memory-care specifically, experiences range from secure, structured programming to reports of inconsistent support; prospective families should evaluate staffing ratios and continuity in the memory unit during a visit.

Safety and operational preparedness are other areas to evaluate. The community's generator coverage appears limited to public spaces and does not consistently provide power to individual apartments during outages; this was identified as a potential safety and comfort concern in severe weather. Exterior maintenance also shows some variance: while interiors are generally well-kept, a minority of comments noted lapses in exterior or entryway upkeep.

Management and culture receive generally positive remarks about visible, engaged leadership and an approachable admissions team, but there are also serious concerns regarding staff conduct and communication tone in isolated reports; there are allegations of disrespectful or discriminatory conduct by some leadership that should be probed directly. Cost is another practical consideration — several families characterized the community as expensive and raised affordability and value concerns.

Recommendation: The Blake appears to offer strong amenities, dining, and activity programming within an attractive facility and has many staff members and leaders who are well regarded. However, reviewers indicate variability in caregiving consistency and emergency power coverage for apartments. Prospective residents and families should tour multiple times, ask for current staffing ratios and caregiver-assignment practices, review emergency-power plans for individual apartments, inquire about memory-care staffing and routines, and clarify meal-service schedules and menu availability before making a decision.
