    Bright, clean facility; excellent care

I'm very pleased with this bright, sunny, and extremely clean facility - roomy and fairly new with a welcoming scent. Staff are helpful, patient and smiley; most CNAs and long-tenured nurses provide thorough, high-quality care. Meals are excellent and the activities program is strong with daily events and outings, and families are encouraged to visit. I feel comfortable and confident in the care here.

About Maine Veterans Home South Paris

Maine Veterans Home South Paris sits on 11 acres with scenic mountain views, and you'll find the facility right at 477 High Street in South Paris. The place focuses on caring for Maine's veterans and their families, providing several levels of care such as skilled nursing, long-term care, memory care for those with dementia, residential care, respite care, and rehabilitation services. There are 90 beds in total-62 for nursing and skilled care, and 28 for residential care-so there's room for both short-term stays and folks needing more permanent help. Staff includes 66 full-time and 64 part-time positions, and you'll notice employees and residents tend to know each other by name, which gives the place a small town, friendly feeling.

The Maine Veterans' Homes nonprofit has run the community since 1995, supporting veterans and their spouses. The home helps veterans understand and apply for various benefits, with dedicated admissions teams who work on eligibility and explain VA benefits, room and board stipends, insurance, and payment options like MaineCare, Medicare, VA coverage, and private pay. Veterans with a 70% or higher service-connected disability rating might qualify for care fully covered by a provider agreement program.

Residents have access to healthcare round the clock, including 24-hour registered nurse coverage, an on-site medical director, and physician services. There's medication management, dementia care, and plenty of support for daily tasks like bathing, dressing, and moving around. Non-ambulatory care and specialized programs are available for those who need extra assistance, and memory care is offered in secured settings with private rooms.

Rooms are simple and comfortable with telephone service in each, offering privacy along with easy communication. Amenities include a community lounge, fireplace and kitchenette, a sunroom with a heated outdoor patio, and areas for cookouts or quiet time. Folks can use the on-site library, garden, garden paths, and barber or beauty shop. There's wheelchair-accessible transportation for trips out, wheelchair accessibility throughout the site, and therapy areas for rehabilitation.

Meals are served in a new restaurant-style dining area with menus planned by a head chef. Residents can take part in regular movie nights, events put on by the wider community, and resident-run activities, so folks tend to stay active and engaged if they want to. Programs at Maine Veterans Home South Paris are set up with a special focus on the kinds of needs veterans often have, from benefit help to memory support, and there's a unique culture of respect and dignity throughout. Each care plan is personalized, and families typically have peace of mind, knowing their loved ones are supported by experienced staff in a setting tailored for veterans. The facility operates as an independent nonprofit and is one of six Maine Veterans' Homes across the state, each with its own feel and amenities, but all centered on serving veterans and their families as simply and kindly as possible.
