    Caring clean homey community recommended

I placed my mom here and I'm very pleased. It's a small, homey place that's clean and well-kept; the director is cordial and informative. The staff (including RN Linet) are caring, patient and communicative, they accommodated meals my mom loves and she eats well and looks healthy. The activity room and music are nice touches - I would recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Ameristar Assisted Living presents as a small, home-style community that many families find welcoming and professionally maintained. The facility is consistently described as clean, orderly, and pleasant in appearance, with comfortable, well-sized rooms and a neat exterior. Its single-level layout and front-door ramp support basic mobility needs, and hospice/end-of-life services and organized physician visits are available, which may be important for families seeking integrated clinical supports.

Care quality is generally perceived as attentive. Several accounts highlight a relatively high caregiver-to-resident presence on shifts and staff who are compassionate, patient, and able to establish direct communication with families. Many families reported that residents adjusted well and ate meals consistently, and that staff accommodated individual dietary preferences. At the same time, reviewers flagged operational patterns that bear consideration: families described needing to remind staff about tasks and occasional delays in responsiveness. There are also questions about the facility’s capacity for managing more complex behavioral challenges, so prospective residents with significant behavioral-management needs should assess this area in person.

Dining and activities are strengths in several descriptions. Meals are characterized as palatable and adaptable to preferences, and social programming such as music activities and a dedicated activity room were positively received. However, the breadth and consistency of activity programming were noted as uneven by some families; prospective residents should review the weekly activity calendar and observe programming during a visit if engagement opportunities are a priority.

On the physical plant and safety, the community appears well kept overall, but reviewers raised several operational concerns: narrow circulation in some areas that could impede mobility devices, limited adaptive bathing features, absence of a comprehensive nurse-call system, and isolated maintenance issues that affect safety (for example, items requiring repair). Occasional odor concerns in common areas were also mentioned. These points suggest evaluating accessibility features, emergency-call infrastructure, and maintenance response processes during a tour.

Management and cost factors are mixed. Leadership is described as cordial and informative, and families appreciated direct access to caregiving staff. Communication, however, was cited as an area for improvement: some families wanted more proactive updates and more reliable follow-through on care tasks. Financially, the community is positioned toward the higher end of the local assisted-living market; published ranges and deposit practices were referenced, so families should obtain current pricing, clarifying what services are included and whether any fees are negotiable.

Overall, Ameristar may be a good fit for families seeking a small, home-like assisted living environment with attentive caregivers and available clinical supports such as hospice. Before committing, prospective residents should schedule an in-person visit to verify accessibility and bathing accommodations, confirm the presence and reliability of emergency-call systems, review behavioral-support capabilities if relevant, and obtain a clear, written explanation of costs and staffing patterns.
