    Attentive staff and excellent care

I placed my mom in this small, family-like community and overall I'm very pleased. The staff - especially nurse Vicki and manager Tommi - are attentive and responsive, the facility is clean and bright with home-cooked meals, many activities and outings, and excellent PT/medical care; my mom settled quickly and is happy and well cared for, so I'd recommend this place.

    Summary of reviews

Delmar Villa Assisted Living is described consistently as a small, clean, and home‑like assisted‑living community with a strong emphasis on individualized attention. Reviewers emphasize a family‑style atmosphere supported by proactive nursing and visible management involvement; specific staff members were named for their attentiveness and willingness to coordinate with families. The facility's small scale is repeatedly characterized as an advantage for personalized care and close relationships between staff and residents.

Care quality and clinical services receive largely positive comments. Families and residents note attentive hands‑on care, accommodation for higher‑acuity and bedbound residents, and access to physical‑therapy services. Reviewers describe staff who manage medications, keep residents calm during transitions, and respond to changing care needs. At the same time, several comments indicate operational patterns that prospective families should evaluate in person—most notably, occasional delays in responding to call‑button alerts and variable responsiveness during weekend shifts.

Dining and programming are frequent strengths. Meals are often described as home cooked, appealing, and sometimes celebratory for holidays and birthdays; a number of residents reported enjoying the food. The community also offers a range of social activities, outings, entertainers, seasonal events (for example a spring carnival), and regular communal celebrations, which contribute to an engaged, social environment.

Physical plant and amenities are favorably appraised: the building is described as bright and well maintained, with large rooms, communal living areas, TVs in resident rooms, and a pleasant country setting near the community. Cleanliness and a pleasant atmosphere are recurring themes. The small size supports a close‑knit feeling but can also mean limited staffing depth and fewer on‑site resources compared with larger facilities.

Management and communication are predominantly cited as strengths, with several families noting clear, proactive communication from nursing and administrative staff and a willingness to address issues promptly. A minority of comments raise concerns about pricing and administrative transparency; one strongly negative statement about the administration stands in contrast to the prevailing positive pattern and should prompt prospective families to ask direct questions about fees and policies during a tour. Additionally, infection‑control policies (notably visitation limitations during the COVID period) were mentioned; visitors should confirm current visitation practices and flexibility during outbreaks.

Overall, Delmar Villa appears to offer a supportive, personalized environment with engaged staff, active programming, and generally positive clinical care. Prospective residents and families would likely benefit from an on‑site visit focused on observing staff responsiveness (including response to call alerts and weekend staffing), reviewing fee structures and administrative policies, and confirming current visitation rules and meal options to ensure the facility’s operational characteristics match family expectations.

    About Delmar Villa Assisted Living

Delmar Villa Assisted Living sits in a quiet Delmar, Maryland neighborhood, providing care for seniors in a small, home-like setting with just 16 beds. The place recognizes that seniors have many different needs, so it offers assisted living, memory care, long-term skilled nursing, hospice, respite care, home health care, and non-medical home care. Residents can age in place under the "Age in Place Model," meaning they don't have to move to a nursing home as their needs change, even if they need hospice or intense medical care. There's a very low staff-to-resident ratio of 1:8, and a registered nurse stays on site at all times to make sure residents get the attention they need. The staff are known for being experienced, friendly, and attentive, with many positive reviews.

The 16-bed assisted living unit has a mix of oversized rooms, private bathrooms, private and semi-private setups, one-bedroom apartments, and two-room suites. Residents can bring their own furnishings and make their space feel like home, or use the furnished options which include flat screen TVs. The rooms and bathrooms are wheelchair accessible, and showers are easy to get to for everyone. Meals are cooked on-site, using home-cooked methods, and there are daily menu choices. Residents eat together in a kitchen that feels familiar and comfortable. There's free housekeeping, laundry, and cable TV, and the facility doesn't use hidden charges for extra care.

Delmar Villa Assisted Living has a special focus for Alzheimer's and dementia care through Delmar Manor, their dedicated memory care unit that's both secure and wander-free, designed to make seniors with memory loss feel safe. The staff run structured programs for memory enhancement, socialization, and daily stimulation, and there's a schedule full of educational and fun activities, including a home movie theater, exercise classes, games, music, off-site trips, and special family events. Residents are encouraged to get involved and build friendships, whether they join group outings or enjoy time with their pets, since cats are allowed.

Healthcare on site includes medication management, diabetic care, PT, OT, speech therapy, X-ray services, high acuity care, incontinence care, and non-ambulatory care. A nurse monitors each resident's changing needs and adapts their care as required. Delmar Villa Assisted Living helps residents get financial help, including VA and local benefits. Short-term stays or respite care are available for those who need it.

Transportation for appointments, errands, and group activities is provided, and the property offers resident and guest parking. There's also a salon, beauty, and barber shop for residents. The facility stays close to local shopping, restaurants, hospitals, physicians, and rehabilitation centers, helping residents remain part of the broader community. Everything about the place seems designed to give seniors a tranquil environment that's comfortable, social, and supportive, while keeping care simple and personal at every step.
