    Excellent post-surgical rehab and care

I brought my mom here for post-surgical rehab and was consistently impressed. The staff were warm, professional and attentive, therapy (PT/OT/SLP) was excellent, the building spotless and modern with sunny, spacious rooms, and the food and activities kept her engaged - truly gave our family peace of mind. I recommend this facility for short-term rehab or skilled nursing needs.

    Summary of reviews

Lorien Encore presents as a modern, well-appointed post-acute and long-term care community with many attributes families find attractive. The campus, rooms, dining areas and outdoor spaces are frequently described as clean, bright and hotel-like. The facility offers an onsite skilled-nursing continuum with active physical, occupational and speech therapy programs that many families credited with clear functional improvement. The activities department is a consistent strength: varied daily programming, specialty events, entertainment and visitation options contribute to an engaged social environment.

Clinical and nursing care descriptions are mixed. Numerous accounts praise compassionate nurses, aides and therapists, timely medication administration, strong wound care and successful rehab-to-home transitions. At the same time, there is a recurring pattern of operational weaknesses: staffing levels and continuity fluctuate (weekend/temporary coverage often cited), nurse call responses can be slow, and families described inconsistencies in medication handling, oxygen/medical supply availability and monitoring. These patterns translate into variable clinical experiences—some residents receive attentive, effective care while others encounter delays or gaps in monitoring and follow-up for complex needs.

Dining and environmental services also show a dichotomy. Many reviewers complimented the quality, presentation and variety of food and highlighted chef-driven meals and family-dining options. Conversely, others reported delayed meal service, food left sitting, small portions or cold meals, and concerns with linen availability and unit-level cleanliness. These inconsistent service experiences suggest that meal-service continuity and supply logistics are sensitive to staffing and shift changes.

Management and communication likewise present uneven patterns. Several families described cooperative, responsive admissions and clinical coordination, including effective discharge planning and financial assistance. Other accounts raised concerns about slower or dismissive administrative responses, inconsistent communication about incidents and occasional billing disputes. There are also repeated comments about differences in care quality across shifts and high temporary staffing, which point to training, scheduling and retention challenges.

Overall, Lorien Encore demonstrates clear strengths in facilities, therapy services and activity programming, and many families report excellent, compassionate care. However, the facility appears to experience operational variability—primarily linked to staffing levels, weekend/temporary coverage, and process consistency for medication, transfers and meal delivery. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facility’s strong rehab and social programming against the potential for uneven staffing-driven service consistency, and consider asking specific questions about staffing ratios, weekend therapy availability, transfer/fall-prevention protocols, linen and supply processes, and billing transparency during tours or admission discussions.

    About Lorien Encore

Lorien Encore sits in a peaceful setting and offers several care options for seniors, with assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, respite care, hospice care, and in-home services through Lorien at Home. The building has no big entrance fees and offers all-inclusive pricing, so people never need to worry about unexpected costs piling up, and there's ADA accessibility for easy movement and no age restrictions for anyone considering moving in. Lorien Encore became Maryland's first and only Parkinson's Certified Community, and it's known for the Parkinson's Wellness Program, so people facing those specific challenges can get specialized support. There are 24-hour nurses and skilled staff ready to help, and the administration's known for being helpful and knowledgeable, while the daily care and therapy teams include trained nurses, aides, physical and occupational therapists, and activity coordinators who work together to keep everyone comfortable and safe.

People can pick from private, semi-private, studio, or one-bedroom apartments, each with kitchens and baths, with community areas like indoor and outdoor lounges, a private movie theater, salon and spa, putting green, and a landscaped courtyard, though the Club Encore setting's what most people talk about because it feels lively and lets everyone gather for events and meals. The dining's restaurant-style, served in comfortable spaces, and the kitchen offers Kosher and vegetarian options, and the food always gets high marks for taste and nutrition.

There's a busy activity calendar that fills days with music, crafts, seated exercise, dance, movies, discussions, religious services, and regular happy hours at the on-site bar-or people can head out for trips because transportation is provided. The center's equipped with advanced therapy machines like Biodex and NuStep, so those who need to recover after surgery or manage ongoing health needs can get focused rehabilitation right on-site, and the Telemedicine iPerformance suites let nurses connect with hospital teams for more complex care.

For seniors facing memory problems from Alzheimer's or dementia, a dedicated memory care program includes safe, secure housing and trained staff to help minimize confusion and prevent wandering. Assisted living residents get help with daily needs such as bathing, dressing, and medication, but the focus's always on keeping everyone as independent as possible within their comfort zone, and the staff try to build real friendships so people feel at home. The housekeeping, laundry, and linen services keep the spaces clean, which matters a lot to families looking for reassurance. Wi-Fi is fast and reliable, so staying in touch with family or watching shows is easy, and there's a strong sense of community; the staff and residents seem to really know each other, with frequent group meals and social hours. Respite care's available for short-term stays, and the flexible options help families take breaks or recover after illness or surgery. The atmosphere's friendly, service-focused, and designed for comfort, with attention to specialized diets and wound care, devotional services both onsite and offsite, and a steady effort to make each day active but not overwhelming.
