    Clean safe well-maintained friendly staff

I'm very satisfied with the Columbia location - clean, pest- and smoke-free, well-maintained and safe, with a wide variety of activities and friendly, responsive staff (Emeral and maintenance were especially helpful). A pleasant, well-run place I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive regarding staff quality, community atmosphere, cleanliness, safety, and programming, while concerns center on the physical condition and appearance of the property, unit availability and size, cost, and some administrative/financial barriers.

Staff and care: Reviewers consistently highlight the staff as a major strength. Descriptors such as professional, friendly, great, and wonderful indicate that employees are viewed as attentive and personable. Multiple summaries emphasize staff friendliness and professionalism, and several reviewers attribute the positive community atmosphere and resident happiness to the personnel. While specific clinical care details are not given in the summaries, the recurring praise of staff suggests satisfaction with day-to-day interactions, resident support, and the interpersonal aspects of care.

Facilities and condition: Reports about the physical facility are mixed. On the positive side, reviewers frequently mention that the building is clean, well-maintained, pest-free, and smoke-free, which supports a safe and healthy living environment. However, a countervailing theme is that the facility is older, with renovations currently in progress. Several reviewers noted poor curb appeal, a lounge that they found unappealing, and overall limited grounds. These points suggest that while common areas are kept clean, aesthetic upgrades and outdoor space are perceived as lacking and that ongoing renovation may be addressing — or contributing to — disruption and visible aging of the property.

Units and availability: A notable practical concern is unit configuration and availability. One specific issue raised is that available units are 1-bedroom when a 2-bedroom was desired. This indicates potential mismatch between prospective residents’ needs and the floor plans currently offered. The presence of renovation activity could be related to unit reconfiguration, but as reported, prospective residents should confirm unit sizes and availability before committing.

Community, activities, and culture: A clear strength is the active and engaging community. Multiple reviewers praise the variety and number of activities, describing residents as fun-loving and happy. The facility appears to offer an array of programming that contributes positively to resident satisfaction and social life. The combination of programming, friendly staff, and clean, smoke-free spaces leads many reviewers to describe the place as safe, peaceful, and enjoyable.

Location and surroundings: Location receives mixed but mostly positive notes. Several reviewers identify the facility as being in Columbia and close to a village center, which is likely seen as convenient. Others, however, find the neighborhood and curb appeal unappealing. The grounds themselves are described as limited, even though some found the surroundings beautiful and peaceful. Prospective residents should weigh convenience of location against personal priorities for neighborhood aesthetics and outdoor space.

Cost and administrative concerns: Cost is explicitly mentioned as a downside — reviewers called the place expensive and indicated financial constraints. Additionally, some reviewers noted the need for assistance with signing up, implying that the admissions or financial assistance process may be complex or require guidance. These themes suggest that affordability and clarity of the intake process are important considerations for prospective residents and families.

Patterns and recommendation guidance: In summary, Selborne House of Dorsey Hall is repeatedly praised for its staff, cleanliness, safety, active programming, and community spirit. The most common reservations relate to the age and outward appearance of the facility, limited grounds and certain communal spaces, unit size/availability, cost, and potential administrative hurdles during move-in. Prospective residents and families who prioritize strong staff relationships, robust activities, and a clean, smoke-free environment are likely to find the community appealing. Those prioritizing newer facilities, larger indoor living spaces (e.g., 2-bedroom units), extensive outdoor grounds, low cost, or a more polished exterior should investigate further — specifically confirming current renovation timelines, unit offerings, pricing and financial assistance options, and getting a clear picture of the neighborhood and outdoor amenities before deciding.
