    Caring staff, clean, great rehab

I'm very pleased with this facility. The nurses, CNAs and therapists are caring and attentive - rehab therapy helped restore independence and staff routinely go above and beyond. The dedicated dementia ward, daily activities, clean comfortable spaces and tasty meals (special diets/Taco Thursday!) made my family feel at home; admission and VA/financial guidance were smooth. New ownership and renovations prioritize people over profit. I highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression is mixed: the facility offers several tangible strengths, especially in rehabilitation, some nursing care, and social programming, but families also describe recurring operational weaknesses that affect day-to-day experience. Positive accounts emphasize successful rehab outcomes, attentive nurses and aides who personalize care, a family-oriented atmosphere, and staff who assist with admissions and financial matters. Conversely, other accounts identify systemic problems in cleanliness, staffing, clinical processes, and administrative responsiveness.

Care quality shows a bifurcated pattern. Many families praise the rehabilitation program and certain nursing staff for supporting recovery and daily hygiene assistance. At the same time, there are substantive concerns about clinical-procedure adherence and medication handling โ€” examples include missed or mishandled medication tasks and lapses in routine clinical line management โ€” which indicate a need for stronger clinical oversight and protocol consistency. Staffing levels are cited as a driver of many care problems: understaffing and reliance on a small core of aides are linked to delayed responses to call bells, inconsistent toileting and bedding support, and variability in routine care delivery.

Staff behavior and communication likewise vary. Several reviewers highlight warm, conversational aides and nurses who learn resident preferences and create a homelike environment. Other accounts describe abrupt or unprofessional interactions, difficulty obtaining staff identification, and poor phone responsiveness. These contrasting perspectives suggest uneven training or supervision in customer-service and communication standards across shifts or teams.

Dining and nutrition receive mixed reviews. The facility accommodates special diets and some residents report enjoying meals and social dining events. However, recurring complaints include inconsistent meal temperature, small or unbalanced portions, food being removed before residents finish, and insufficient monitoring of residents during meals. There are also reports of denture maintenance and oral-care gaps that can impair food intake for some residents.

Facilities and environment show both improvements and shortfalls. Recent renovations and comfortable climate control are positives, and a dedicated dementia unit is present. Yet there are persistent maintenance issues โ€” broken beds and furniture, roofing problems, and other deferred repairs โ€” and sanitation inconsistencies in resident rooms and shared bathrooms. The facilityโ€™s shared-room layouts with multiple residents per bathroom are an operational constraint that some families find problematic.

Management and administration present a mixed record. Admissions and some financial staff are described as helpful in guiding placement and paperwork, and infection-control practices during COVID were noted positively. Opposing feedback points to poor administrative responsiveness, delays or errors in billing and refunds, lack of timely callbacks, and insufficient coordination for care conferences after admission. A few families escalated concerns externally, indicating that internal communication pathways sometimes fail to resolve issues.

Notable pattern: experiences appear highly variable between units, shifts, and individual staff members. This yields strong positive reports from families who interacted primarily with engaged clinical and rehab teams, and strong negative reports from those who encountered staffing shortages, maintenance lapses, or communication breakdowns. Prospective residents and families should prioritize on-site verification: inquire about current staffing ratios, medication-administration protocols, cleaning schedules, maintenance plans, and meal supervision practices; observe a mealtime and a care shift change if possible; and request documentation on recent inspections and how the facility has addressed follow-up items. These steps will help determine whether the facilityโ€™s strengths align with an individual residentโ€™s needs and which operational risks are being actively managed.

    About Manokin Manor

Manokin Manor, also known as Manokin Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare and Manokin Nursing and Rehabilitation, sits in Princess Anne, Maryland and has served the community since 1985. The facility offers different types of senior housing like independent living, senior apartments, condos for seniors, and senior townhomes, so people have choices to fit their needs, and residents can pick between private and non-private rooms too. There's a team of nurses, aides, and healthcare professionals who provide 24-hour skilled nursing care along with wound care, IV therapy, incontinence care, diabetic care with insulin monitoring, and physical, occupational, and speech therapy services. The staff helps with daily living tasks such as moving from bed to wheelchair, bathing, and medication management, and they're trained to support both ambulatory and non-ambulatory residents.

Manokin Manor uses several safety measures, like home security, walk-in tubs, medication dispensers, and offers ID theft protection. In the rooms, there are medical alert systems such as Bay Alarm Medical, Medical Guardian, and ADT Medical Alert so residents can call for help whenever they need it. There's Wi-Fi throughout the building, cable TV in rooms, and senior-friendly technology options like internet plans, senior cell phones, and hearing aids, so folks can stay connected with friends and family. The facility welcomes visitors with guest parking and even lets residents' pets visit, which brings comfort to many people.

The staff focuses on building strong relationships with residents and provides an individualized care plan that might include assisted living, short-term rehabilitation, memory care, nursing home care, respite care, hospice care, and companion care. They work closely with families, and there's a care management team that oversees safety and care standards to make sure that health protocols stay up to date.

Residents get tasty meals each day, with staff handling dietary needs, and there are devotional activities for those who want spiritual support. The activities department runs programs and group activities to keep everyone moving, engaged, and socializing, both in indoor common areas and outside in the garden, and the facility sometimes organizes offsite activities too. There's a salon on-site, and restorative programs help residents stay as independent as possible, letting folks take part in social dining and everyday routines at their own level. The atmosphere is said to be warm, friendly, and comfortable, with a setting that feels quiet and peaceful, kind of like a retreat or a bed and breakfast right in Princess Anne, Maryland.

Manokin Manor supports people at all stages of their later life with a blend of healthcare, companionship, and independence, thanks to a large professional staff and a focus on dignity and respect. There's an online presence including Facebook, and a website's in development, but much of the information comes from their long record serving the local community.
