    Compassionate staff and excellent care

I've lived here four years and been very satisfied - the staff are compassionate and attentive, from nurses and CNAs to therapy and hospice, and they treated my husband like family. The facility is clean, beautifully decorated, safe, and offers a full continuum of care plus abundant activities, trips, chapel, gym and strong rehab that truly improved health. Administration and front desk are welcoming, meals are nourishing, and families are well supported - I highly recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impressions of Village of East Harbor are mixed and indicate substantial variability by unit, shift, and individual staff. Strengths frequently highlighted include a large, attractive campus with well-kept common areas, an inviting dining environment, and a broad continuum of services stretching from independent living through memory and skilled nursing care. The site offers many on-site amenities (salon, pool, chapel, therapy rooms), active programming and outings, and visible efforts to foster social engagement. Several families also described positive clinical outcomes when therapy and nursing resources were engaged and coordinated.

Care quality and staffing are the most uneven areas. Many accounts praise compassionate, attentive nurses and aides and high staffing levels in specific memory-care contexts; however, other accounts describe understaffing (especially overnight), slow call-light response, and delays in attending to medical events. These patterns translate into concerns about timeliness of clinical response, inconsistent documentation, and variability in medication administration practices. Rehabilitation services are available on-site and were effective for some residents, while other families experienced limited therapy follow-through or early discharge for inadequate progress, indicating inconsistent therapy planning and execution.

Dining and activities are a clear asset for many residents: reviewers frequently note varied programming, stimulating group events, accommodated dietary requests, and a pleasant dining atmosphere. At the same time, food quality and meal-service reliability are inconsistent across accounts, with occasional wrong meals or unappetizing presentations. Facilities and campus features are often described as clean, secure, and attractive, with private-bath options and outdoor areas; contrasted accounts describe older or worn rooms, climate-control issues, localized odor concerns, and isolated pest-control issues. The campus’s size and range of housing options are strengths, but they can also amplify variability in maintenance and housekeeping standards across units.

Management and communication present mixed signals. Some families praise welcoming administration, good coordination with hospice and admissions staff, and helpful financial-transition options such as transitional Medicaid beds. Others describe high turnover in leadership, inconsistent follow-through on complaints, billing disputes, and a perception that administrative responsiveness varies widely. Several reviewers referenced serious clinical events (including hospital transfers and end-of-life situations) that prompted concerns about timeliness of family notification and clinical escalation; these cases appear to have a disproportionate impact on overall impressions.

Notable patterns for prospective residents and families: the facility provides many institutional strengths — comprehensive services, strong programming, and an attractive campus — but individual experiences depend heavily on unit assignment, staffing at particular shifts, and local management. Key areas to evaluate in a visit include night and weekend staffing levels, call-response times, medication-administration protocols (including how meds are explained during meals), hygiene and incontinence-care procedures, the written rehabilitation plan and expected progress metrics, communication and incident-notification policies, and precise financial terms including Medicaid availability and out-of-pocket cost projections. Verifying these operational details directly with staff and observing multiple units and meal periods can help clarify how well the facility’s capabilities align with a prospective resident’s clinical and social needs.

    About Village of East Harbor

Village of East Harbor sits at 33875 Kiely Dr, Chesterfield, MI, and offers several care options designed for seniors, including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, rehab, respite care, senior apartments, and care homes, and while nobody lists much about what the place looks like inside or out, folks say there are one- and two-bedroom homes and apartments with private kitchenettes, baths, and storage spaces, plus cottages for those wanting something more like a house. The community is known for having a helpful and friendly staff, folks often mention how joyful and kind everyone is, which helps make it a warm and welcoming place for residents. Seniors have access to on-site doctors, a dedicated nursing staff, and medical supervision for both short-term rehab and longer stays, with wellness checks as part of the routine, and the place provides assistance with things like medication, bathing, grooming, and daily physical therapy.

There's a clubhouse, well-kept walking paths surrounded by landscaped grounds, and activity rooms meant for games and social programs, and if someone likes to read, there's a library and reading area as well as a computer room. Residents eat in a shared dining space, and the meals get praise for being chef-inspired, nutritious, and focused on quality ingredients and taste. Folks can also join fitness classes, spiritual programs, and take part in trips run by the community, which sometimes means the chaplain is involved or there are outings to local stores or doctor appointments, since the facility arranges transportation and services for medical appointments and errands.

Housekeeping, maintenance, and laundry services are part of daily living here, and the facility is pet-friendly, handicap-accessible, and has Wi-Fi or high-speed internet, though there's no clear word on parking or garage setups. Security features work to keep residents safe throughout the campus. For those needing memory support or struggling with Alzheimer's, there are special programs and a separate memory care option with extra attention paid to both activities and daily needs. The non-denominational chapel offers religious or spiritual support for anyone who wants it. Village of East Harbor holds a place in the Best of Senior Living awards, which comes from recognition for care, activities, and the staff's friendliness. The facility follows federal protections for both LGBTQ residents and those receiving certain kinds of income. People interested in joining can talk to local senior living advisors for help finding a fit that matches their needs, as staff provide flexible and personalized services across all levels of care on campus, from those who just want to live independently in an apartment to those looking for long-term support with daily tasks.
