    Clean compassionate care with therapy

I placed my aunt at Regency Heights and I'm very pleased. The building is clean and odor-free, rooms are comfortable and private, the therapy team (Cassandra was a blessing) helped her regain mobility, on-site dialysis was convenient, and the staff from admissions to nursing were professional, compassionate and attentive - I would recommend it for rehab or long-term care.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Regency Heights Nursing and Rehab Center are highly polarized, producing two clear patterns: a substantial number of families describe an effective, therapy-focused rehabilitation environment with caring staff and a welcoming atmosphere, while other families raise serious operational and clinical concerns. Strengths most consistently noted include robust rehabilitative services, experienced therapy personnel, an inviting admissions experience, attractive and spacious rooms, on-site dialysis, and an active calendar of themed activities and social programs. Many reviewers praised the dining program, friendly reception staff, and an overall home-like environment that supports recovery and social engagement.

At the same time, numerous reviews identify recurring facility-level weaknesses that affect resident experience and safety. Staffing variability and perceived undercoverage were cited across multiple shifts, which reviewers linked to delays in responding to call signals, inconsistent personal-care assistance, and uneven housekeeping performance. Several families described problems with medication administration and supply continuity, including delays and temporary shortages, and others pointed to gaps in clinical escalation and hospital-transfer processes. Concerns about staff conduct, tone, and variable training level also appear repeatedly, contributing to a perception of uneven professionalism across the workforce.

Operational and administrative issues surfaced as a separate cluster of concerns. Reviewers reported inconsistent phone responsiveness, difficulties scheduling visits or appointments, and unclear pricing or gift-certificate policies. There are also isolated but serious claims including pest-control concerns and allegations of financial misconduct involving resident funds; these items suggest a need for stronger administrative oversight and transparent safeguards. A few reviews referenced clinical deterioration and concerns following a resident's death, which underscores the importance of clear family communication and reliable transfer/response protocols.

For prospective residents and families, the key pattern to note is variability. Regency Heights appears capable of delivering high-quality, attentive rehabilitation and creating a warm, community-oriented environment when staffing, training, and administrative processes align. However, the frequency of reports about staffing shortfalls, medication and supply disruptions, inconsistent housekeeping, and communication gaps indicates operational variability that can materially affect care experience. Families considering this facility should prioritize direct conversations with management about staffing ratios, medication-continuity procedures, clinical escalation and transfer policies, infection-control measures, pest-control protocols, and transparent billing/pricing practices. When possible, arrange an extended tour and meet therapy and nursing leadership to assess consistency across shifts and units.

About Regency Heights Nursing and Rehab Center

Regency Heights Nursing and Rehab Center sits in Detroit and holds up to 168 residents, and folks say it's a large and good-looking place with a home-like feel that's made for comfort. People who need longer care or those just staying for a short time after surgery can get help here. There's skilled nursing care, rehab, hospice care, and palliative care, plus memory care for Alzheimer's and dementia. Trained staff like registered nurses, LPNs, CNAs, therapists, and social workers look after residents, and everyone works together on care plans. Residents can get help with dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, wound care, medication, diabetes, and mobility, and specialized programs in orthopedic, neuro, cardiac, and respiratory rehab are here if someone needs them.

Meals are made on-site, usually one or two each day, and they're meant to be healthy and taste good. Laundry, housekeeping, and personal care services help keep things tidy and folks comfortable. Residents have access to private or semi-private rooms, both with safety features like sprinklers and grab bars, sometimes with kitchenettes or washers and dryers, and cable TV is available. Different activities fill the calendar, like arts and crafts, social events, fitness or wellness programs, and educational sessions. Game rooms, a fitness center, salon/barbershop, Wi-Fi, and guest parking are part of the property, and if someone needs transportation, that's available too.

Healthcare services go beyond the basics, covering wound care, medication management, nutritional counseling, therapy-physical, occupational, and speech-and there are even home safety assessments and home safety visits before leaving to go home after rehab. They take Medicare and Medicaid, and the building generally stays busy, with about 83% of the beds filled. Regency Heights has had recent inspection grades of B to B+. There are both resident and family councils so folks can speak up and share their thoughts about how things are run. Rooms range from $5,500 to $8,500 per month.

While it's a for-profit place, staff are described as caring and attentive, and people say the building feels supportive as well as modern, with an easy atmosphere that suits older folks and families. The facility uses best practices in care and offers unique care programs for different diagnoses, and it aims for good transitions from the hospital to home. Regency Heights Nursing and Rehab Center is recognized as a highly rated and award-winning option by the CMS Quality Rating System, and it supports seniors who want independent living as well as those who need closer care or rehab in Detroit.
