Serenity Adult Foster Care has several small assisted living homes in Michigan towns like Decatur, Bangor, and nearby areas, each with its own name, such as Cornerstone House, Parker AFC Home, Lydia's Foster Home, Hendrickson House, and Sunny Acres, among others, and each home has a set number of residents, usually four to twelve people, so there's always a small, close group and the staff can get to know each person better, and they always help with regular daily things like bathing, dressing, and taking medicine, and if someone needs more help, they've got people trained for moving, feeding, and keeping medical schedules straight too, and the staff are there all the time to make sure everybody's safe and comfortable with things like call buttons, non-slip floors, and easy-access bathrooms, and the homes themselves sit in neighborhood settings, not in huge buildings, so it all stays pretty calm, like a real house, and sometimes there's even a garden or walking paths out back.
People living here often stay in semi-private or one-bedroom spaces, and the apartments usually come set up with furniture, big closets, kitchen stuff, and sometimes there's a washer and dryer in the unit, with community spaces like dining rooms for meals, game nights, and quieter activities like reading or crafts, and if getting around is hard, there's help for getting to doctor visits or going out in the van for errands.
Meals are made there with staff who know about allergies and special diets, and if a resident needs it, the homes can also do laundry and housekeeping, so things stay clean, and staff can work with each person's doctor to keep health care on track, especially in places like the memory care units where people with Alzheimer's or dementia have special programs and extra supervision to keep them safe and occupied with activities that spark memory and social time.
Some of the homes, like Wave Crest and White Oaks Assisted Living - I, can care for as many as 16 or 20 people, but most houses are much more intimate, usually five or six, and each place has its own license and set rules around things like pets or visitors, and the staff are trained to give personal care and support, helping people stay as independent as possible while still being right there if anybody needs anything, whether it's medical help, meals, rides, or just company during the day.
Serenity Adult Foster Care also has services for short stays, called respite care, so caregivers can take a break while people get the same help and supervision as permanent residents, and there are activities, gardens, walking paths, and even libraries or fitness rooms, depending on the location, and almost every home keeps things maintenance-free, so older people don't have to worry about chores or household repairs. Each home has its own feel, but the goal across all of them is to make sure older people have a safe, warm, well-cared-for place to call home for as long as they can.
