    Compassionate, dedicated care and support

I'm very pleased with our experience - the compassionate, dedicated staff provided excellent, high-quality care (one nurse even went above and beyond), supporting hospice and oxygen needs and treating residents like family. The facility is beautiful and homey, offers engaging activities, multiple levels of care including dementia support, and the admission and communication were smooth; I happily recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviewers present a largely positive view of Diamond Willow Assisted Living & Memory Care, emphasizing a warm, home-like environment and strong relational care. The facility is described as attractive and well maintained, with décor and common areas that contribute to a residential rather than institutional feel. Many families indicate a high level of satisfaction and willingness to recommend the community.

Care and staff: The predominant theme is a compassionate, attentive staff who create a sense of family for residents. Several accounts highlight caregivers and nurses who go beyond baseline duties, and families describe meaningful daily moments and emotional support. The facility's staff culture also appears favorable from an employee perspective, which can support continuity and morale. Clinical capabilities such as hospice support and oxygen therapy are available and were successfully used in at least one family account.

Activities and programming: Recreational programming is a clear strength. Reviewers mention a range of activities—movie nights, games, nail painting, crafts, and live music—that contribute to social engagement and quality of life. The presence of memory-care programming and structured engagement for residents with dementia is noted, suggesting programmatic attention to cognitive needs.

Dining and nutrition: Dining is a mixed area. While the environment and service are often described as comfortable and homelike, several reviewers raised concerns about meal quality and satisfaction. This suggests inconsistent culinary performance or menu fit for some residents; prospective families may want to sample meals and discuss dietary customization before placement.

Management, communication, and operations: Admission and transition processes are generally described as smooth and supportive, with some families reporting clear communication and an easy move-in experience. However, there is an important pattern of variability: a subset of comments point to difficulty reaching staff, delayed responsiveness, or uneven communication from management. These operational gaps appear to be intermittent rather than constant, producing a mixed picture where strong communication coexists with episodes of poor accessibility.

Notable patterns and recommendation: The strongest, most consistent positives are the quality of interpersonal care, the homelike setting, and active programming, along with available clinical supports for higher-acuity needs. The primary operational concerns are inconsistent dining quality and variability in responsiveness and family communication. Prospective residents and their families should weigh the facility’s relational strengths and program offerings against the potential for occasional communication or dining issues—visiting the dining service, meeting the care team, and clarifying preferred communication channels and response expectations can help address those concerns prior to move-in.

About Diamond Willow Assisted Living & Memory Care

Diamond Willow Assisted Living & Memory Care, found at 130 W North Road in Cloquet, MN, offers seniors both assisted living and memory care in small homes with only 8 to 16 residents in each, so folks get to know each other well and staff can really pay attention to what residents need like help with bathing, dressing, meals, and medications, which can make daily life feel comfortable without crowds or confusion. The place is split into different levels of memory care, with special names for their settings, like Cloquet Memory Care and Duluth Memory Care, so each group has care tailored for how far a person's memory's been affected, and you'll see the site-based registered nurses working together with direct care staff, keeping an eye on both health changes and day-to-day needs, so families don't have to worry as much about the basics slipping through the cracks. The rooms have names like Eagle Pine Suites, Birch Park Suites, and Lester River Suites, which gives each part of the community a home-like feel, and the homes sit near woods and lakes, with safe outdoor paths, so residents can get fresh air, which can help brighten a day. Folks living here can get help with chronic medical issues, diabetes care, incontinence care, or mobility needs, and there are companion care options if someone prefers not to live alone. Meals are made from quality ingredients, and there's a beauty salon, activity directors, trips to town, devotional activities, and both indoor and outdoor common spaces where people can gather-even as memory worsens, the design of the homes aims to lessen confusion and wandering, so everyone stays safe and treated with dignity. The place operates as a kind of middle ground between regular assisted living and full nursing home care, and the values here focus on keeping respect for every person, whether resident or staff. There's always someone to make sure needs get met, and hands-on staff who know that living out your life means feeling both secure and a little bit at home, even when health changes come along, and you can find more about all their locations and whether this is the right fit for your family on their website.
