    Clean, bright, friendly, active community

I toured and moved my mom here and have been very pleased overall. The community is clean, bright, and well-maintained with roomy apartments and nice grounds. Staff are friendly, attentive and quick to answer questions - the marketing person explained everything and the care team is responsive. Meals are tasty, there are tons of daily activities (bingo, outings, church services, happy hour), on-site services like a beauty shop, and housekeeping is provided. Warm, social, pet-friendly - I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Edgewood Hermantown is described across reviews as a clean, bright, and well-maintained community with a range of apartment configurations (studios through two-bedrooms) and in-unit kitchenettes. Common spaces such as the dining room, visiting/coffee areas, library, and outdoor grounds are frequently characterized as attractive and welcoming. Housekeeping and maintenance appear consistent, and several commenters cited spacious, well-kept rooms and a generally comfortable atmosphere for residents.

Care and staffing receive substantial positive comments: many residents and family members described staff as friendly, attentive, and responsive, and several noted professional medical staff who communicate about diagnoses and care plans. Housekeeping, supportive assistance during transitions, and inclusive admissions interactions were highlighted as strengths. At the same time, a recurring operational concern is staffing continuity. Reviewers indicate relatively high turnover and staff rotation across units, which can make it harder for residents and families to establish stable caregiver relationships. A separate pattern involves front-desk and phone-handling behavior; while most on-the-floor staff are praised, reception interactions were described as inconsistent and sometimes unprofessional.

Dining and nutrition are generally viewed positively: many reviewers praised meal quality, variety, and on-site dining conveniences. The community runs a full dining program with options and daily service. However, occasional comments point to limited menu variety or repetition at times, so prospective families may wish to ask about menu cycles and special-diet accommodations during a tour.

Activity programming and amenities are a notable strength. The facility offers a broad slate of daily activities and social opportunities—bingo, puzzle groups, pool table, boat outings, church services, monthly social hours, library access, and on-site salon services were all mentioned. These offerings contribute to an engaged social environment and were frequently cited as improving resident mood and satisfaction. The community is also pet-friendly, which some families valued.

On management and communications, reviewers described an informative tour experience and staff willing to explain services and plans of care. Nevertheless, some comments communicated a perception that management priorities skew toward occupancy and turnover, and others raised questions about the clarity and reliability of certain communications. For families considering this community, an in-person visit is recommended; ask specific questions about staff retention, caregiver assignment practices, front-desk communication protocols, menu cycles, and how the community handles family communications to determine fit and expectations.

    About Edgewood Hermantown

Edgewood Hermantown in Hermantown, Minnesota, provides a range of senior living options including independent living, assisted living, memory care, short-term stays, and adult day services, and with 257 units and 293 beds, it's one of the larger communities around, and since it's staffed 24 hours a day, seniors can get meals, nursing assistance, and help with daily living like bathing, dressing, and moving from bed to wheelchair whenever they need it, and you'll find a beauty salon, fitness center, chapel, and movie theater room in the building along with indoor common areas and plenty of activities like music, bingo, poetry, arts and crafts, boat rides, field trips, happy hours, and church services available so residents don't feel left out or alone, while outdoor walking paths and landscaped grounds give everyone a chance to enjoy fresh air. The community serves adults 55 and older and supports different needs, with some living independently and others needing memory care for Alzheimer's or dementia, where they have programs focused on safety and reducing confusion, and caregivers on site make sure there's supervision, standby help with transfers, blood sugar monitoring, and help with personal hygiene, though residents needing incontinent care need to manage their own supplies.

Meals are provided three times a day, laundry and housekeeping services help lighten the load, and transportation's available for errands or appointments, and if residents need therapy, CaringEdge Home Health and Hospice is on site for medical support. Residents can choose from private, semi-private, studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom rooms, and both cats and dogs are welcome, and those who only want daytime care can use the adult day program. Staff are ready to assist with diabetic care, medication management, and doctor checkups for weight, pulse, or blood pressure, but they can't give insulin injections. The senior living community is nonprofit and focuses on comfort and safety, keeping hallways handicap accessible and Wi-Fi available throughout, and since 2000, they've supported local elders and families with different care types, all under one roof, as part of the larger Edgewood Vista Senior Living network, and residents, whether here for a short stay or long term, get help making care decisions with a care comparison tool, care assessments, and even a catalog of adaptive products like clothing, tech, and safety alerts.
