    Grandmother doing well; attentive staff

My grandmother is doing very well here. The nurses and CNAs are attentive and residents are clearly well cared for. It's a great facility for grandparents - overall I'm very satisfied with her care.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews for Good Samaritan Society - Luverne present a mixed but informative picture. Positive comments emphasize clinical caregiving: nursing staff and certified nursing assistants are frequently characterized as competent and attentive, and family members note favorable outcomes for residents in their care. Several comments describe the facility environment as welcoming and suitable for older adults, and some family members explicitly report that relatives are doing well under the facilityโ€™s care.

At the operational level, feedback points to variability in staff helpfulness and responsiveness. While many comments praise direct-care staff, others describe instances where staff interactions or assistance were perceived as unhelpful. This pattern suggests variability in customer-service consistency rather than a uniform staffing profile. Prospective families may want to ask about current staffing levels, typical staff-to-resident ratios, and how the facility supervises and trains front-line employees.

Dining is another area with mixed feedback. Positive impressions of overall care contrast with specific comments about meals being served cold or inconsistently prepared. That pattern indicates potential gaps in meal-service logistics or temperature-control practices. Visitors considering the facility should observe a mealtime and inquire about food service schedules, kitchen staffing, and processes used to ensure meals are served hot and on time.

A more serious operational concern raised is an allegation of discriminatory hiring practices. That is a significant governance and compliance matter that warrants direct inquiry. Families and prospective employees should ask leadership about hiring policies, nondiscrimination training, and any human-resources oversight or recent corrective actions. Documentation of HR practices and the facilityโ€™s responses to complaints can clarify this issue.

Information about activities and structured programming is limited in the available comments. The absence of consistent commentary on recreation or engagement offerings means prospective residents should request an activities schedule and speak with the activities coordinator during a visit. The facilityโ€™s physical environment is described positively, but visitors should tour common areas and private rooms to confirm cleanliness, maintenance, and suitability for the prospective residentโ€™s needs.

Overall, Good Samaritan Society - Luverne appears to deliver competent clinical care and a generally pleasant environment, with notable strengths in nursing and personal-care delivery. However, variability in staff helpfulness, meal-service consistency, and a serious concern about hiring practices are areas to probe further. Recommended next steps for families: schedule an in-person visit, evaluate a mealtime, request staffing and HR policy information, and meet with administrators to discuss any specific concerns about staff conduct and operational practices.

About Good Samaritan Society - Luverne

Good Samaritan Society - Luverne sits at 110 South Walnut Avenue in Luverne, MN, serving Rock County since 1959, and it's part of the larger Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society network, so you get a place with strong roots in the community and a history of caring for older adults, and they make sure someone's in charge of following Section 504 and Section 1557 regulations to support everyone's rights and needs, which helps residents feel included and safe. The facility provides a skilled nursing wing for both short-term rehab and long-term care, though right now they're not taking new patients, and the staff speaks English. They've got different types of living arrangements, like assisted living, independent living, and memory care, with special focus on helping residents with dementia or Alzheimer's stay comfortable and avoid getting confused or wandering off. Seniors can also use home-based services and home health, depending on what works best, and there's help for caregivers if needed. Folks can access both inpatient and outpatient rehab therapy, and they've got programs for diabetic care, non-ambulatory care, and incontinence care, aiming to cover a wide range of health needs. The community makes sure nutritious meals are planned and cooked by chefs, and they have spaces for meals, daily activities, and devotional times, so residents can keep their body, mind, and spirit active. There's staff specially trained to give non-medical friendship, too, and amenities are designed for comfort and ease, with common areas for socializing and quiet time. They're very focused on matching care types to what each resident needs rather than a one-size-fits-all plan, and they coordinate with local referral partners and resources for whatever extra support a person might require. If you're interested in seeing how everything works, the facility offers scheduled tours.
