    Caring staff great food activities

I'm very happy with Ecumen Countryside - the staff are caring and know residents by name, the food is excellent, and the apartments are spacious and clean with lots of privacy. There are daily activities (exercise, music, bingo, movies, outings and more), great communal spaces and a gym, plus a van for appointments and a Lifeline system for safety. It's welcoming, convenient for family, and a very good option for independent or assisted living - I'd recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive. Reviewers consistently emphasize a warm, welcoming atmosphere and repeatedly praise the staff for being friendly, respectful, and personally connected to residents. Many comments note that staff know residents by name, show genuine care, and treat residents with dignity. The facility is frequently recommended by reviewers, and visitors find it enjoyable to spend time there.

Care quality and staffing are standout themes. Multiple reviews highlight smooth transitions between independent and assisted living, attentive staff, and helpful, polite employees. Safety measures such as a lifeline system are in place. One consistent nuance is that independent living is characterized as having 'basic checks' — useful for those seeking more independence but potentially a consideration for families seeking more frequent monitoring. No serious negative reports about care quality or staff demeanor appear; instead the tone is one of reliable, compassionate staffing.

Social life and activities are another prominent strength. The community offers a broad mix of programs — bingo, movies, themed parties, singing groups, exercise classes, arts and crafts, morning coffee breaks, afternoon socials, music activities, and organized outings. There is an on-site gym and scheduled transportation (van) for appointments and shopping. These offerings appear to foster social engagement, laughter, and a strong sense of belonging among residents. Reviewers repeatedly note the diversity and regularity of activities, which supports both physical and social well-being.

Facilities and living spaces receive positive remarks for being new, spacious, and well-decorated. The building is described as large but beautiful, with plenty of communal areas that encourage social interaction while also providing private apartment space. Apartments come in different sizes to suit varying needs, which is a plus for prospective residents. A few reviewers described some rooms as simply 'fine,' indicating some variability in finishes or perceived quality between units. Reviewers also mentioned ongoing community fundraising for amenities such as a walking path, indicating active investment in improving outdoor spaces but also that some amenities are still in development.

Dining and on-site services are consistently praised. Meals are characterized as 'real' and very good, and the dining area is noted as pleasant. The combination of quality food, helpful dining staff, and communal meal times contributes to the home-like feel residents and visitors describe. Practical conveniences such as being family-friendly and offering transportation help to make the community easy to work with for relatives.

Patterns and takeaways: reviewers repeatedly call out the staff-resident relationships, robust activity programming, cleanliness, and the modern, spacious facility as the strongest assets of Ecumen Countryside. Minor concerns center on the level of oversight in independent living (only basic checks), some variability in apartment size/finish, and a few amenities still requiring development through fundraising. Overall, the reviews portray Ecumen Countryside as a well-managed, caring, and active senior living community that is highly recommended by residents and visitors, particularly for those seeking an engaging, home-like environment with options for independent and assisted living.

    About Ecumen Countryside

Ecumen Countryside sits in a quiet residential area at 650 El Dorado St SE in Owatonna, MN, and offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care for seniors, plus continuing and home care services, so folks can find support that matches their needs, whether they're looking for more freedom, help with daily tasks, or specialized memory support, and the community has both one- and two-bedroom apartments with flexible floor plans, fully equipped kitchens for those who want to cook, and large windows that give a nice view of the countryside. The building makes space for everyone, including those with disabilities or diseases that need extra care, and there's always something to do-exercise classes, social hours, book clubs, concerts, and other activities-planned by a team focused on resident well-being, because staying active and connected matters as people age.

Meals get prepared fresh every day in a bright, tastefully decorated dining room, and residents have the option to enjoy snacks or relax with friends in common areas, while the community offers transportation, high-speed internet, weekly housekeeping, and laundry that can change with a resident's needs, making it easier to focus on daily life without worrying about chores or maintenance. People can bring pets, join in group events, try out therapy or exercise sessions, or spend time outside on the patios, and the location gives them a sense of home and belonging, since it's in a neighborhood but close to Owatonna's city life. The community keeps up to date with its licensing and stays part of a broader network that includes places like Ecumen Brooks and Traditions of Owatonna, all part of Ecumen, a Minnesota-based nonprofit with 160 years of experience in senior living.

The staff covers many roles, from caregiving, nursing, and activities to dining, housekeeping, and maintenance, and customizes support for each person-help with bathing, dressing, taking medicines, or navigating memory challenges like Alzheimer's or other dementia, and there are special programs and therapies to help prevent confusion and wandering in the memory care areas. For those needing more, services like hospice care (with Mosaic Moments), respite stays, adult day care, and even home care from trained aides bring extra support without leaving the community network. Residents or their families can schedule tours, look at the photo gallery, or read about past events to get a better feel for daily life and dining options before making decisions. Ecumen Countryside puts focus on independence, personal dignity, and community, giving choices that fit each stage of aging, and while it's warm and comfortable with dedicated staff, it also works to stay affordable and accessible, keeping policies in place to protect privacy and prevent discrimination, all while staying active in the senior living field with recognition at leadership conferences and awards for community service in the Owatonna area.
