    Welcoming, caring staff and community

I placed my dad here and I'm very pleased - the staff, especially Jennifer, are welcoming, knowledgeable and genuinely caring. They introduced us to the care team, respond promptly, and maintain a clean, well-kept, home-like community. There are plenty of activities, good food, and strong social engagement so residents stay busy and happy. I'm grateful for the attentive, professional team and would recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews present a mixed but actionable picture. Many families and residents praise the facility’s interpersonal strengths, amenities, and activity programming; at the same time, recurring operational issues tied to clinical oversight, monitoring, and administrative transparency have been raised. Prospective residents should weigh the strong social and environmental features against concerns about consistency of care and operational controls.

Care and staffing: Praise centers on compassionate, engaged caregivers who form cohesive teams and respond promptly to many resident needs. Reviewers describe staff who get to know residents, provide hands-on assistance, and support families—including hospice coordination and end-of-life care. Counterbalancing that, there are patterns indicating uneven clinical oversight: timing and reliability of medication delivery, inconsistent room checks and monitoring, and instances that suggest gaps in fall-prevention and transfer-safety practices. These patterns point to variability in staffing presence or procedures across shifts rather than a uniform model of care. Families should ask for staffing ratios, medication-administration policies, routine check-in schedules, and incident-reporting practices during tours.

Dining and activities: The facility’s dining and social programming receive substantial positive comment. Meals are frequently described as enjoyable and dining spaces as pleasant; activity schedules emphasize music, social programs, and opportunities to remain engaged. Reviewers highlight an active calendar that supports resident socialization and a sense of community. These strengths appear to contribute meaningfully to resident satisfaction and daily life.

Facilities and maintenance: Physical spaces are consistently described as attractive, clean, and well maintained, with apartments and common areas that feel home-like rather than institutional. Amenities are cited as being above what some families expected. That said, there are operational concerns about maintenance-safety processes—examples cited point to lapses in prompt hazard remediation and preventative checks. Prospective residents should inspect specific units, ask about preventive maintenance protocols, and verify how quickly safety issues are addressed.

Management, admissions, and pricing: Many reviewers note welcoming admissions staff and constructive introductions to the care team. Conversely, there are repeated comments about inconsistent intake experiences, administrative delays during admissions, and unclear financial disclosures. Specific concerns include nonrefundable deposits, rapid fee increases, and insufficient transparency about what fees cover. Before committing, families should obtain written, itemized fee schedules, clarify refund policies, and review contract terms for care-plan changes and price adjustments.

Notable patterns and recommendations: The strongest, most consistent positives are the interpersonal environment—attentive staff, active programming, and well-kept spaces—which create a supportive community for many residents. The most significant operational concerns relate to consistency: clinical oversight, monitoring during off-shifts, medication reliability, and administrative transparency. Prospective families should tour multiple times (including meal times and activities), request staffing and medication-management protocols, ask for documented check-in schedules and incident histories, and obtain clear written financial terms. Doing so will help determine whether the facility’s evident strengths align with an individual resident’s clinical and safety needs.

    About Deer Crest

Deer Crest Senior Living sits as a place where older adults can choose how they want to live, so folks can pick independent living, assisted living, or memory care, and the apartments come in one or two-bedroom layouts with modern kitchens, private spaces, and even dens, and there's plenty of storage to tuck things away, plus you can bring a pet, which a lot of people find comforting. The staff, who call their services things like "Deer Crest Care" and "The Deer Crest Experience," work all day and some hours at night, and there's a 24-hour call system if anyone needs help, and they offer personalized help with bathing, dressing, taking medicines, and housekeeping, so people don't have to worry so much about everyday chores. With the partnership they have with Ebenezer and Fairview Health Services, residents get access to health care and supportive services around Minnesota, and when folks need to recover or stay strong, physical and occupational therapists from Odom Health and Rehab come in, so all kinds of rehabilitation services are right there. The community also has special areas like "Memory Lane Neighborhood" for people who need memory care, which means there's a caring team ready with the extra support and structure some folks require, and the care team keeps up with outside healthcare providers and manages care plans to fit what each person needs.

Meals get planned by chefs and there are special menus for holidays and celebrations, and everyone eats in pleasant dining rooms, and if someone has special dietary needs, they can get meals made just for them, so nobody feels left out. The place is faith-based, so they offer devotional activities, as well as lots of group programs, games, and outdoor activities like walking on trails or sitting outdoors on decks and patios where people often spot wildlife, and these social programs and common spaces help keep people connected and active. The community itself is designed with safety and comfort in mind, using emergency response systems and layouts that make getting around easier, no matter your mobility needs, plus there's plenty of communal areas, activity rooms, and even a community room with a kitchen and bar for gatherings. Memory care services at Deer Crest provide a gentle, structured environment, and for more independent folks, there's maintenance-free apartment living and the chance to take part in events while keeping as active as you like, and the staff help with everything from diabetic care to incontinence care and non-ambulatory support if necessary.

Deer Crest says, "This Is Your Time to Thrive," and they try to make it possible by offering engaging activities, relaxing outdoor spaces, organized trips off-site, and the chance to enjoy time with neighbors. The apartments are stylish and welcoming, and the community focuses on the mind, body, and spirit, so people can feel at home while getting the support they need.
