    Resident of 22 years satisfied

I've lived here 22 years and my family has visited regularly for 18. The owner is awesome and clearly proud of the place. Staff treat residents like family-helpful, caring, and communicative-and the care is excellent. Activities are available, meals are delicious, and it's affordable. I'm very satisfied and content living here and would recommend it for long-term care.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews for the facility present a mixed picture. Positive comments emphasize strong, family-like relationships between staff and residents, long-term continuity of care (several residents and families describe many years at the home), an engaged owner who is invested in the facility, clear communication with families, a full activities program, appealing meals, and generally affordable pricing. Those aspects suggest the facility can provide a comfortable, socially active environment for residents who thrive under familiar staffing and consistent routines.

Counterbalancing those positives are operational concerns that recur across reviews. There are complaints about inconsistent staff professionalism and conduct, including reports of disrespectful communications and unprofessional interactions with residents and families. Several comments point to gaps in medication administration and oversight; linked to that are serious allegations regarding on-site substance use by staff and transactions involving controlled substances between residents. Reviewers also describe instances that imply weaknesses in property security and personal-item protection. Additionally, some families perceive administrative policies as restrictive, limiting resident autonomy and choice.

Management and oversight appear to be a key variable in the experience families report. The owner’s active involvement is cited as a strength by some, yet other remarks imply that oversight and enforcement of staff standards and medication controls are inconsistent. This combination can produce a polarized experience: long-term residents and families who are satisfied with care and atmosphere, and others who describe declining quality or specific operational lapses.

For prospective residents and families, the practical implications are: confirm current staffing, training, and supervision practices; ask about medication administration protocols, controlled-substance safeguards, and staff background or drug-monitoring policies; inquire how the facility secures resident belongings and resolves interpersonal conflicts; and request examples of activities, sample menus, and typical communication pathways with families. A tour and direct conversations with management and frontline staff can help determine whether the facility’s strengths align with an individual resident’s needs and whether recent operational concerns have been addressed.

    About Colonial Residential Care

Colonial Residential Care Facility II, found at 1162 Cedar St in Bismarck, Missouri, stands as a senior care home providing assisted living and memory care for folks who want help with daily chores while still keeping their independence, and you know, the building holds up to 48 residents, all in a pleasant and home-like setting with furnished rooms that come with amenities such as cable TV, a telephone, internet, and even a kitchenette for those who like having little comforts close by. Caregivers here give support with bathing, dressing, medication, meals, and also help with laundry and housekeeping, and some staff focus on personal grooming with a community salon and barber services and all that, and there are group meals every day and activities-people enjoy movie nights, fitness classes, and there's a well-stocked library plus arts room, a beautiful garden out back, and even scenic walking paths for those who like being outside.

They're ready to help residents with memory care needs, including dementia and Alzheimer's, and there's a whole system for supervision with a 24-hour call service and emergency alert systems throughout the building for safety. No need to worry about getting around, either, as the place is wheelchair accessible and offers non-ambulatory care. Folks who come here get help moving in, and the staff work alongside seniors and their families so new residents get settled in with as little fuss as possible, and for those times when a person needs to see a doctor elsewhere, transportation is set up, so folks don't have to stress about appointments, and being close to hospitals and local shops makes things easier overall.

Meals are prepared by chefs and planners who take care to provide options for people with allergies or diabetes, making sure everyone eats well, and there's a dining room with all-day dining and restaurant-style service, which makes meals feel more like home. There are programs in place for physical, emotional, and social well-being, so residents can stay busy, and between the arts, crafts, and community events-some organized by staff, others by residents-there's usually something going on, plus outdoor spaces for sitting together or gardening if that's your thing.

The building is licensed for long-term residential care and provides both independent living and assisted options, but it's not certified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, so you won't use Medicare here. Staff are always around to answer questions, there are guides about dealing with different illnesses or disabilities, and tours are available if someone wants to look the place over with a staff member who'll greet and show visitors around to see the rooms or amenities. Residents can expect regular help with day-to-day tasks, and the community encourages family feedback, so folks can check reviews and ratings to learn more before making decisions, and overall, Colonial Residential Care tries to offer a respectful, pleasant environment with skilled staff, a safe setting, and activities tailored to a wide range of needs and interests with a steady approach, not too fancy, just focused on making life a bit easier and more comfortable for older adults who need it.
