    Summary of reviews

The Kensington presents a largely positive residential environment in which interpersonal care, social engagement, and hospitality elements are consistently highlighted. Families and residents praise direct-care staff for being compassionate, attentive, and personable; reviewers repeatedly describe a family-like atmosphere, strong activities leadership, and personalized memory-care supports. The facility’s historic architecture, attractive common areas, and spacious private rooms with en-suite bathrooms contribute to a homelike feel. Dining, transportation, and outings are frequent strengths: reviewers note high-quality meals, varied menus, active transportation/shuttle services, and an extensive activities calendar (music, crafts, Bible study, trips, and special events).

Clinical and safety patterns are mixed. Several families described concerns about inconsistent nurse availability and medication administration processes; these concerns cohere into operational-level weaknesses around clinical oversight and medication documentation. Related safety issues appear in a subset of accounts — for example, problems with pendants/call systems and fall events — which indicate gaps in safety-monitoring and emergency-response protocols rather than isolated facility aesthetics. Infection-control and long-duration outbreak management also emerged as a concern in a small number of descriptions and may warrant direct verification during intake or visits.

Management and administrative practices show variability. Positive examples include timely resolution of billing disputes and responsive follow-through on administrative questions. Conversely, other remarks characterize administrative interactions as uncaring or unprofessional and describe rigid level-of-care transition or discharge decisions that families found abrupt. These items suggest the facility’s policies and communication practices can be uneven; clarifying contract terms, discharge criteria, and complaint-resolution pathways before move-in is advisable.

Facility amenities and maintenance are generally well regarded, with many reviewers noting cleanliness, a beautifully restored historic lobby, guest rooms for visitors, and active programming spaces. Practical limitations were noted: elevator capacity, some rooms not fully wheelchair-accessible, occasional room-temperature issues, and variability in bed comfort. Those considerations affect daily living and mobility for some residents and should be confirmed during a tour.

Overall, The Kensington demonstrates strong strengths in hospitality, activity programming, social engagement, and meal service, supported by many positive family experiences. However, prospective residents and families should probe clinical operations (nurse staffing patterns, medication-administration controls, and safety-call systems), infection-control practices, and administrative policies (billing, discharge criteria, and escalation paths) during visits and contract review to ensure the facility’s operational practices meet the individual’s clinical and safety needs.

    About The Kensington

The Kensington sits in a renovated historic building once known as the Clarke Hotel, with original tiled floors, marble pillars, and polished brass rails giving the place an old charm. The community offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, and respite care all in one mid-rise building so residents can stay as their needs change. People living here get three home-cooked meals daily, and there are options for kosher and vegetarian diets. There's always fresh coffee and snacks out, and meal service is included, which helps save time and money cooking. The team helps with diabetes care, incontinence, transfers from beds to wheelchairs, and medication. Trained and awake staff are available around the clock, plus there's a health office.

Residents find both indoor and outdoor spaces to sit and enjoy, with a covered patio, a baby grand piano, a vaulted dining room, and a game room decorated with 1916 tavern murals, a large aviary, a pool table, and a computer for email. A beauty and barber salon is onsite along with a resource center and library, and you'll see a snack center and a kitchen residents can use too. People can choose from studios or one-bedroom apartments when they move in. For those who want to visit family or downtown shops, transportation and parking are available, and outdoor smoking is allowed in certain areas.

Social life is busy with activities both on and off site, including devotional services, programs to help form friendships, and exercise sessions. Memory care has structured programs and cognitive activities for those with Alzheimer's or dementia. The chaplaincy service and chapel support spiritual needs. Security and care teams provide twenty-four hour support, and wellness checks, housekeeping, and laundry services come standard. As a continuing care retirement community, The Kensington offers aging in place, hospice, and even non-ambulatory care, so residents can stay even if their health situation changes. People looking for a quieter lifestyle find easy spaces to relax or join in on games, music, and special events, all set in a friendly atmosphere near downtown shops and local spots. Tours are offered for those who want to see the community first-hand.
