    Excellent rehab, caring staff, caveats

I was very pleased - the therapy was excellent, the nurses and CNAs were caring and attentive, and the facility is spotless and hotel-like with nice activities that lifted my spirits. I made measurable progress in PT/OT, felt genuinely cared for, and appreciated the helpful case management and staff who went above and beyond. My only caveats: food was uneven (sometimes cold and heavy on sweets), and there were occasional lapses in medical oversight, communication and weekend staffing - so I wouldn't pick it for an extremely fragile patient without close monitoring. Overall I'm grateful for the care and would recommend it for rehab and short-term stays.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for Advanced Health Care of Paradise overwhelmingly highlight a high-end, rehabilitation-focused skilled nursing facility with many strengths, but a minority of reviews describe serious lapses that warrant attention. A large proportion of reviewers praise the facility’s physical environment, hospitality-style suites, therapy outcomes, food, and the compassionate bedside care delivered by nurses, CNAs and therapists. At the same time, multiple reviewers reported significant safety or management concerns — ranging from unresponsiveness to allegations of theft and neglect — creating a mixed picture that combines stellar rehabilitation and hospitality with occasional, but serious, quality lapses.

Facilities and amenities: Commenters consistently describe the building as beautiful, well maintained, and resort-like. Private, apartment-style suites are repeatedly noted — often described as hotel-like with large TVs (some notes of 40"+ or 100+ channels), microwaves, small refrigerators, kitchen bars/walk-in bathrooms, adjustable or Tempurpedic-style beds and reclining chairs. Housekeeping is frequently praised for daily cleaning and spotless public areas, and many reviews emphasize tasteful décor, oil paintings, and the homelike atmosphere. Some minor facility issues are mentioned (e.g., noisy beds/recliners and occasional water taste complaints), but these are comparatively uncommon.

Clinical care and outcomes: Rehabilitation (PT/OT) is the most commonly praised clinical area. Numerous reviews credit therapists by name (e.g., Craig, Keith, Erin, Ronell) for measurable progress — including transitions from non-ambulatory to ambulating with a walker or cane. Rehab culture and results are a repeating theme: residents and families frequently call the therapy teams “top notch,” motivating, and instrumental in recovery. Many reviewers also note strong wound care, rapid DVT diagnosis/treatment, and compassionate hospice support.

Nursing, CNAs, and case management: The facility receives recurrent praise for nursing staff and CNAs described as compassionate, responsive and attentive; many families singled out individual caregivers for exceptional kindness and advocacy. Case managers — especially multiple mentions of Melissa Maguire — are often credited with clear communication, coordination, and going above and beyond to secure placements and follow-up care. Several reviews highlight 24/7 family visiting, thoughtful transitions, and acceptance of family presence as important strengths.

Dining and activities: Dining is another major area of positive consensus. Many comments describe restaurant-quality meals prepared by an executive/5-star chef, varied menus, hot meals (not pre-cooked/frozen), and special event meals (e.g., Thanksgiving). Activities programming (bingo, movies, arts & crafts, entertainment) is frequently enjoyed by residents; staff-led engagement (e.g., Sophia the activities host) receives numerous compliments.

Service consistency and management: While many reviewers describe professional, calm, and communicative administration and management, there are recurring reports of inconsistent responsiveness. Several families experienced delayed administrator follow-up, unresolved complaints about property or care, or a sense that management was slow to act. Staff consistency also varies by shift — some reviewers report excellent daytime performance but cite problematic night or weekend coverage, including use of agency nurses who were perceived as less familiar or competent.

Serious concerns and safety incidents: A small but important subset of reviews detail severe and disturbing incidents: alleged theft of belongings by staff, apparent neglect (e.g., oxygen tubing not turned on for extended periods), missed or delayed medications, inadequate early physician or therapy assessments, improper glove hygiene with cross-contamination risk, reports of dehydration/malnutrition/UTI leading to acute decline, and descriptions of emergency transfers or death that families link to inadequate care. A few reviews allege unprofessional behavior, blame-shifting by administrators, or restrictions on family advocacy during COVID-era periods that contributed to poor outcomes. These accounts are not the majority, but they are serious and repeatedly called out by multiple reviewers.

Patterns and balance: Several patterns emerge. First, many patients return for subsequent stays — a signal of satisfaction and trust in the rehabilitation outcomes. Second, individual staff members and the case-management team are consistently highlighted as standout assets and personal touches matter a great deal to families. Third, inconsistency across shifts and occasional staffing shortages appear to be the root cause cited for many negative experiences (delayed therapy, delayed meds, poorer night coverage). Fourth, management responsiveness is uneven according to reviewers: where administration and case management are engaged, families report high satisfaction; where they are perceived as slow or defensive, complaints escalate.

Recommendations for prospective families: Based on the review patterns, Advanced Health Care of Paradise appears to offer a superior environment for rehabilitation, hospitality-level accommodations, and attentive caregivers in many cases. Prospective residents and families should be prepared to verify key safety and operational details on admission and during the stay: confirm staffing levels for nights/weekends, ask about protocols for medication timing and pain breakthrough dosing, document and secure valuables (given isolated theft allegations), review infection-control and glove-hygiene policies, clarify physician rounding frequency, and request point-of-contact information for case management and administration. If a resident has complex medical needs or is at high risk (e.g., oxygen-dependent, wound care, fragile medical status), families should explicitly verify the facility’s ability and documented experience managing those conditions.

Overall assessment: The dominant theme across these reviews is strong praise for a beautiful, rehab-centered facility with excellent therapy outcomes, high-quality meals, compassionate caregivers, and suites that feel like a boutique hotel. However, a minority of reviews report severe lapses in care, communication, and safety that cannot be ignored. The facility appears capable of outstanding care and excellent experiences for many residents, but prospective residents and families should actively confirm care processes, monitor responsiveness, and seek clear assurances about handling of high-risk clinical needs to mitigate the risk of the adverse events reported by some families.

About Advanced Health Care of Paradise

Advanced Health Care of Paradise sits in Paradise, Nevada and serves as a skilled nursing facility with both short-term and long-term care options, working with an average of 37 residents per day out of 38 certified beds. The facility has private suites with private bathrooms, showers, adjustable beds, televisions, private phones, and high-speed internet, which helps make stays more comfortable whether folks come for a short recovery after surgery or for longer-term needs. There's 24-hour nursing care from licensed nurses, and the nurse staffing hours rest above the state average at 5.84 hours per resident daily, though the nurse turnover rate is also pretty high at 51.6%, which is more than the state's average. The staff offers help with bathing, dressing, transferring, medication management, and non-ambulatory care, paying attention to personalized plans that a team of doctors, nurses, therapists, and dietitians design, which makes it possible to meet individual care needs, support recovery, and keep people safe. Rehab services include physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and the facility runs both inpatient and outpatient programs, with a particular focus on short-term nursing and rehabilitation to help seniors regain independence after illness or hospital stays.

Family members often visit since the space has visitor-friendly policies with relaxing courtyards, welcoming seating areas, and cozy fireplaces. Meals take place in an elegant dining room with restaurant-style, fresh, seasonal options, and they cater to special diets like cardiac, diabetic, and allergy needs, all supervised by a registered dietitian. Residents also spend time in common spaces including a library, reading area with a saltwater fish tank, arts room, beauty salon, walking paths, garden, and a private dining room for gatherings, which gives people options throughout the day along with activities such as movie nights and resident-run events. Housekeeping, laundry, and move-in support make daily life smoother. There's a 24-hour call and emergency alert system in all rooms.

There have been deficiencies noted in inspection and survey data, such as not giving residents the proper notice about Medicare and Medicaid coverage and not always providing enough food and fluids, and a total of 21 deficiencies have been recorded, including three relating to infection control, along with a higher-than-average nurse turnover. Even so, nursing hours per resident remain higher than state averages. Advanced Health Care of Paradise is a for-profit corporation, part of the larger Advanced Health Care system, and has no specific details available about who manages staff or the exact management structure. Medicare is accepted, and there's a focus on a supportive team approach for both the clinical and daily life sides of care within a secure, resort-like setting. As of June 2025, only one bed is open, and the community has a 4.2 rating from 29 reviews. This facility operates as a nursing home, doesn't act as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), and emphasizes a model of care dedicated to helping seniors recover and keep as much independence as possible.
