    Compassionate care, happy healthy mom

My mom has lived at South Meadows for over two years and I'm very pleased with the care. Compassionate, professional staff provide personalized 24/7 attention-home-cooked, nutritious meals, exercise and engaging activities-and she's healthier, more mobile, and happier. The house is spotless with beautiful grounds, strong COVID precautions, and regular video updates/FaceTime that keep our family connected. The owner and caregivers are responsive and went above and beyond; I'm grateful and recommend South Meadows as a warm, capable alternative to full-time in-home care.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression South Meadows Residential Care Home is characterized in the available summaries as a small, home-like residential setting that emphasizes compassionate, individualized care. The majority of comments describe a family-style culture in which staff provide around-the-clock attention, emotional support, and clinical coordination that can include hospice services. Many families note measurable improvements in residents’ well-being (for example, increased mobility, weight gain, or stabilization of dementia symptoms) in this environment.

Care and staff Care is frequently described as personalized and attentive. Reviewers highlight caregivers by name, describe proactive communication with families and medical personnel, and emphasize responsiveness — including regular phone calls, video updates, and FaceTime availability. The owner is noted for healthcare and scientific familiarity and for assisting with administrative tasks such as long-term care and hospice paperwork. Several comments indicate constructive relationships with outside healthcare providers, and reviewers cite hospice competency and end-of-life support when needed.

Dining and activities Dining is reported as a strength: home-cooked, nutritious meals, support for special dietary needs, and attendees gaining weight when appropriate. The facility reportedly uses fresh ingredients and maintains a small-house kitchen approach. Activity programming appears broad and purposeful: group activities, holiday celebrations, exercise programs, and physical-therapy motivation are cited as contributing to residents’ social engagement and physical function.

Facilities and environment The house is consistently described as clean, bright, and well-maintained, with pleasant common areas and attractive grounds including a garden and fruit trees. Reviewers describe the setting as welcoming, safe, and located in a desirable neighborhood. The small-scale environment and visitor/pet-friendly policy are presented as contributors to a homelike atmosphere.

Management and communication patterns Management is described as accessible and knowledgeable, with an owner who is involved in clinical and dietary oversight and who supports families through paperwork and care coordination. Communication practices — frequent updates, video sharing, and coordination with medical providers — are noted as a recurring strength. COVID-19 precautions and other infection-control measures were referenced positively by multiple families.

Notable patterns and cautions While the consensus in these summaries is strongly positive, one review describes a serious negative experience alleging nonadherence to CMS guidance and restricted visitation that preceded rapid decline in a resident’s condition. That comment differs markedly from the broader pattern of high satisfaction and suggests potential variability in how policies are applied or documented. Prospective families should therefore verify current visitation policies, regulatory-compliance documentation, staffing ratios, and the facility’s incident-response processes at the time of inquiry.

Practical considerations for families Given the strengths described — compassionate staff, personalized care plans, robust communication, home-cooked nutrition, and active programming — South Meadows may suit individuals seeking a small, homelike residential option with hands-on management. Families evaluating this provider should ask for up-to-date policy documents (including visitation and infection-control protocols), request references or recent medical-provider contacts, confirm how hospice and higher-acuity needs are managed, and review examples of routine communication (e.g., sample update messages or video-call arrangements) to ensure alignment with their expectations.

South Meadows Residential Care Home sits quietly at 13495 Stoneybrook Drive in Reno, Nevada, and usually serves about 10 residents in a medium-sized community with a home-style setting that feels comfortable and welcoming, where you'll find private and semi-private rooms including studio, single, and two-bedroom options, some with their own kitchenettes, and the staff handle all the cooking, cleaning, and housekeeping so residents don't have to worry about chores.
