    Beautiful resort-like community, recommend cautiously

I toured and placed a loved one here - the community is beautiful, very clean and resort-like, staff are warm, attentive and engaged, the chef and activities team are excellent, and residents seem happy and social. It's pricey and there are occasional staffing, billing or management hiccups (and a few serious care concerns reported in memory care), so I recommend it but advise asking detailed questions and monitoring care closely.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Oakmont of the Lakes is strongly positive on the aspects that matter most to many families: the frontline caregiving team, the social and activity programming, the quality and presentation of the physical environment, and the abundant amenities. Across scores of comments, reviewers repeatedly highlight compassionate, engaged aides, med techs, servers, activities staff and maintenance teams who go above and beyond. The community is described as bright, newly remodeled, resort-like, and very clean. Many reviews single out the chef and dining program for creative, customizable meals and restaurant-style dining, and guests praise theater rooms, private dining, salon, library, gardens, and multiple comfortable common areas. Memory care is frequently named as a strength: reviewers note a small memory unit, favorable staff-to-resident ratios, and attentive memory care leadership that families relied on.

Activities are a consistent selling point. Reviewers describe a lively schedule with brain games, music, craft classes, live entertainment, outings, holiday events, and social gatherings that foster connection and a sense of belonging. The activities director and programming team receive extensive praise for engagement and for encouraging resident participation. Many families credit the social program with improving quality of life and easing transitions.

Care quality perceptions are predominantly positive but not uniform. A substantial number of reviews commend clinical staff, medication management, hospice coordination, and individual caregivers who learned residents’ names and needs. However, a notable subset of reviews documents clinical and safety concerns: reports of medication timing problems, an inattentive or rarely-seen nurse, overmedication, falls leading to bruises, and in several instances, families reported the resident deteriorated while at the community and improved after leaving. These safety and clinical-oversight issues are serious outliers but were repeated enough times to be a meaningful pattern that prospective families should explore directly.

Management and administrative experience is reported with wide variability. Many reviewers compliment front-desk responsiveness, specific managers, and a professional, helpful admissions process. Conversely, several reviewers recount troubling management behaviors: perceived lack of transparency, unapproachable or rude leadership, avoidance of staff concerns, insulting handling of family complaints, and failure to escalate or report alleged staff misconduct. There are also multiple reports of billing mistakes, unexpected charges, and frustration with extra fees; combined with periodic notices about rent increases, some families question the overall value at the stated price point.

Dining and food service are mostly praised but with caveats. Numerous comments celebrate the chef, diverse menus, generous portions, and special dishes (soups, desserts). At the same time, other reviewers mention inconsistent meal quality, overly fancy or spicy preparations for some residents, cold food, long waits, smaller portions, and variability depending on staffing or day. Changes to food-service offerings (for example, moving or removing the bistro/coffee area) and prior safety concerns (salad bar during COVID) were also mentioned.

Facilities, amenities, and environment are uniformly lauded: fresh renovations, welcoming decor, well-kept landscaping, courtyards, and multiple shared spaces contribute to a luxury, resort-like feel. That said, a few reviewers note the exercise room or outdoor area is limited, no pool is present, and some studio apartments can be small — considerations for residents who need more space or specific fitness amenities.

Patterns and final takeaways: the dominant theme is that Oakmont of the Lakes offers an upscale, activity-rich, and largely well-staffed environment where many residents thrive socially and nutritionally. The staff culture—particularly among caregivers, med techs, activities staff, and dining teams—receives strong consistent praise and is often the reason families recommend the community. However, recurring concerns around management transparency, billing, staffing shortages, and several significant safety/clinical incidents mean that experiences can vary considerably between families and over time.

For prospective residents and families touring Oakmont of the Lakes, the reviews suggest focusing conversations on current staffing levels (especially clinical/nursing), medication and incident-reporting protocols, how billing and extra-fee items are handled, fall-prevention practices, and recent turnover in leadership. Ask for examples of how clinical concerns are escalated, request recent menus and sample meals, and verify specifics about memory care staffing ratios and hospice coordination. Overall, the community receives many heartfelt endorsements for staff compassion, activities programming, and the quality of the physical plant, but the few serious safety and management criticisms are important to verify during any decision process.

They have both studios and one-bedroom apartments, plus some semi-private rooms and companion suites for those who need a more affordable or social setting, and all apartments have kitchenettes, walk-in closets, private bathrooms, cable or satellite TV, and emergency call systems, so there's a good amount of comfort and safety, and if someone just wants the basics, there are options for accessible and no-frills senior apartments, while those with greater needs can rely on fully staffed neighborhoods too.

A salon and day spa are right on site, along with a wellness center, so there's always space to keep up with self-care or just visit with neighbors, and the grounds have sitting areas, a resident garden, and a gazebo surrounded by flowers for peaceful outdoor time, especially in the memory care garden.

Staff are available 24 hours a day to help with personal care, medication management, bathing, getting dressed, walking, and using a wheelchair-whatever a resident might need to keep life manageable and safe, and there's a full-time nurse on site plus physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as wound care, diabetic monitoring, hospice care, and help with insulin or other medication. If you need transportation to appointments or activities off campus, there's a free service, and the facility is licensed by the state.
