    Compassionate, skilled short-term rehab care

I was very satisfied with my short-term rehab at Hanover Terrace. The therapists and PT/OT teams were excellent, and the staff and volunteers were genuinely caring, timely, respectful and never rushed. The facility is clean, cheery and well equipped, communication was clear and the empathetic admin even comforted my family with food and coffee - I trust them to meet daily needs and recommend Hanover Terrace.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated emphasis on high-quality clinical care, attentive rehabilitation services, and warm, compassionate staff. Reviewers consistently highlight the facility's strengths in short-term rehab and therapy (PT and OT), describing therapists as excellent and the therapy teams as proactive and responsive to individual needs. Multiple comments indicate that residents and families trusted Hanover Terrace to meet daily care needs and that the facility has comprehensive in-house capabilities to address those needs.

Staff behavior and family support are recurring, standout themes. Reviewers praise staff for being friendly, genuinely caring, and willing to go beyond routine duties to comfort families — examples include providing coffee and food for family members and offering emotional support during visits. Timeliness and the perception that assistance is not rushed come up repeatedly, suggesting consistent staffing practices and a culture of attentiveness. Volunteers are also mentioned positively, indicating community or supplemental support that enhances residents' experiences.

The facility's physical environment is described as clean, cheery, and welcoming, with specific notes about festive touches such as Halloween decorations and staff and residents dressing in costumes. These details point to an active social program and attention to morale and engagement. At the same time, reviewers characterize the building as "not flashy," implying a functional, unpretentious aesthetic rather than an upscale or luxury appearance. That nuance indicates strong clinical and interpersonal strengths while suggesting the environment focuses more on substance than on high-end amenities.

Management and reputation are reinforced by phrases like "top notch reputation" and multiple five-star recommendations. The combination of effective rehab services, compassionate staff, timely assistance, and a clean, engaging atmosphere forms a consistent pattern in the reviews: Hanover Terrace is seen as a reliable, family-oriented rehabilitation and care center that prioritizes quality care and personal attention over luxury finishes. No recurrent operational or clinical concerns are reported in these summaries; the primary caveat mentioned by reviewers is the facility's basic, unflashy look, which appears to be a minor trade-off given the high marks for care and staff responsiveness.

About Hanover Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center

Hanover Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center sits on 49 Lyme Road in Hanover, New Hampshire, and you'll find that Bear Mountain Healthcare runs it, and they've got a bunch of things they do, like skilled nursing, inpatient and outpatient rehab, hospice, respite care, and Alzheimer's care, though right now they're not taking new patients, and most folks there speak English, but sometimes you'll hear other languages. The place holds up to 100 beds, but the main census shows about 50 people living there on any given day, and they've got 49 beds certified for skilled nursing care, which means nurses provide around-the-clock support with doctors on call, medication help, and various therapies. So for folks who need help after surgery or a medical event-like a stroke, heart problems, broken bones, or breathing trouble-they're set up for that, with physical, speech, and occupational therapy programs, and you'll hear about things like strength training, speech, help swallowing, and managing pain, so there's a team approach, but you'll also find long-term care for folks who can't live on their own anymore due to aging or sickness; that brings three meals a day, snacks, help bathing or dressing, and attention from dietitians and social workers, plus some palliative care for those facing terminal illness, covering pain, nutrition, and spiritual needs if needed.

But, if you're looking at history and inspections, you'll want to know that Hanover Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center's had some real trouble, like getting called out on eleven different deficiencies during inspections, and that includes issues with reporting and responding to suspected abuse or neglect, as well as problems keeping infections under control, and being marked as a Special Focus Facility Candidate means the place has a record of serious quality issues, though it hasn't been flagged formally by the government, so you should keep all of that in mind. The nurse turnover rate is 43.8%, which, though lower than the state average, still means almost half the nurses don't stick around, and nurse staffing averages 3.30 hours per patient per day, which is less than what you'll see in other New Hampshire facilities, so staff are there but stretched. Hanover Terrace's connect with medical students and residents, since the department's family medicine and geriatrics programs use it for training, and it's close to the main medical center, making it easy for doctors and learners to come by. The center's been reviewed 8 times with an average score of 4.3, and the focus always comes back to helping people regain independence through personalized therapies, but when you add up the fast-track rehab, attention to chronic conditions, meal planning, and a full rehab team, there's a lot happening, though the history of violations and several flagged incidents show it's important to stay alert if you're considering care in this type of environment.
