    Warm, safe, home-like dementia care

I chose this small, home-like community and have been very pleased. It's clean, safe, and easy to get around, with sunny rooms, an enclosed courtyard, and pet-friendly policies. Meals and activities are well run, housekeeping and updates are consistent, and nurses (shoutout to Janet) and caregivers are compassionate, attentive, and treat residents like family-providing individualized, dementia-friendly care. I'd recommend it to families seeking warm, professional, hands-on support in a smaller setting.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The Addison of Somers Place presents as a small, apartment-oriented assisted-living community with a consistently warm, family-style atmosphere. Families and residents commonly describe the campus as clean, pleasant, and well maintained, with an enclosed courtyard and sunny rooms overlooking parkland. The property is pet-friendly, and the building layout is purposeful for couples or individuals seeking apartment living rather than a larger institutional environment.

Care and staff: Care quality is a strong theme. Caregivers and nursing staff are frequently described as attentive, compassionate, and familiar with residents' routines; many reviewers emphasize personalized attention, periodic check-ins, and staff who learn residents' names. Low staff turnover and long-tenured employees, together with an active director presence, are cited as stabilizing factors that contribute to continuity of care. This creates a supportive environment that many families find reassuring and that some characterize as reducing family stress.

Dining and activities: The community offers daily planned programming and a variety of activities — movie nights, games, and regular social events — and several reviewers praised the level of engagement and the chef-prepared meals. At the same time, comments indicate some variability: a number of families noted inconsistent meal quality over time and a desire for additional activities or staff to increase participation options, particularly for residents with limited mobility or sensory impairments. While activities are available and often well run, accessibility and engagement for every resident are areas to clarify during a tour.

Facilities and accessibility: Physical features are generally viewed positively: enclosed courtyard, common family rooms, and an intimate, easy-to-navigate footprint. Apartment layouts are apartment-like rather than institutional, and some units are described as spacious and suitable for couples. Conversely, reviewers also flagged variability in room size and layout; a subset of apartments are quite small or have configurations that do not suit residents with vision impairment or mobility limitations. Apartment housekeeping quality was noted as uneven in some instances. A few reviewers disliked direct apartment entries into common areas as a privacy preference.

Memory care and suitability: Prospective residents and families should assess memory-care needs carefully. The community is described as offering dementia-friendly approaches and flexible, person-centered strategies, but it does not consistently present a secured memory-lockdown unit for residents who require higher-level secure memory support. This distinction is a key operational limitation for those seeking locked-unit memory care or secure supervision.

Management and notable patterns: Tours and staff presentations are generally well regarded; admissions interactions are described as welcoming and informative. The prevailing pattern across comments is one of individualized attention, emotional support, and staff forming extended-family relationships with residents. For families prioritizing a small, community-oriented setting with attentive staff and pet inclusion, the Addison is frequently recommended. For those requiring specialized secured memory care, larger unit sizes, or consistently larger activity programs, the operational limitations identified above warrant careful inquiry prior to choosing the community.

About The Addison of Somers Place

The Addison of Somers Place sits in Egg Harbor Township, NJ, right in a peaceful neighborhood near Mill Creek and Veterans Memorial Park, and you'll find that folks here live in a cozy and friendly setting, almost like a real home, with spaces to gather like a living room with a fireplace, a media cabinet, and plenty of soft chairs to provide comfort if you just want to sit and watch TV or read quietly by the glow of the fire, and you'll also notice there's a library full of books and even a piano for anyone who wants to play, plus open areas and lounges where people talk, play games, and join activities, and there's an outdoor courtyard with benches and a central tree surrounded by gardens where residents and pets enjoy the sun and fresh air. The building is two stories with both studio and one-bedroom apartments, and you can pick a unit with a kitchenette or a private bathroom, or if you prefer to share, there're private or shared units too, and you'll see the bedrooms have comfy beds, recliners, and dressers. Services cover assisted living with help for daily needs like bathing, dressing, and taking medicine, and a full-time nurse stays on-site all day and night, so help is always close if you need medication or have any health concerns. There's also skilled nursing, memory care, short-term stays, and independent living, so as people's needs change there's support, and the staff doesn't rush anyone, treating residents like family, showing warm respect and kindness. Folks don't have to do housework or laundry-those chores are handled, and meals are served in a dining area with cheerful decorations where the chef and kitchen staff offer rotating menus and healthy choices, so everyone eats well together, and if residents want, there's a private dining space for family visits. Activities happen each day to keep everyone active and connected, with outings like trips down to the Ocean City Boardwalk, community programs, game nights, and learning events, meant to inspire joy and keep minds sharp, and there's a hair salon right in the building for easy grooming. Since the community allows pets, people don't have to give up their animal companions, and every service tries to support independence, choice, and dignity, with care plans set up based on each person's needs. The Director of Community Data manages all the records and the property team keeps everything coordinated, while the verified community status provides a sense of trust. The Addison of Somers Place fits a lot of needs for seniors looking for assisted living, nursing care, memory care, or a place for a short stay, with spaces to relax, good food, friendly faces, and help available around the clock.
