    Friendly staff excellent care peaceful

I live here and overall I'm very pleased. Staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable; care, rehab and round-the-clock support have been excellent. The campus is beautiful and impeccably clean, rooms and cottages are spacious and customizable, dining is consistently good, and activities keep residents social and active - great peace of mind, with just a few small things that could be improved.

    Summary of reviews

Friends Village is described overall as a well-appointed, campus-style senior community with strong amenities and an active social environment. Strengths commonly noted include a broad activity program with staff involvement, robust rehabilitation and therapy services, and around-the-clock hospice support. The dining program receives consistent praise — an energetic dining staff, an award-winning chef, and pleasant dining areas are cited as contributors to a positive mealtime experience. Housing options range from cottages with garages and small yards to independent-living apartments that residents can personalize; outdoor spaces, common rooms, a chapel and library contribute to a campus-like feel.

Care and staffing impressions are mixed. Many accounts describe compassionate, attentive caregivers, responsive nurses, and staff who show personal interest in residents; several families describe a marked improvement over prior facilities. At the same time, there is a recurring operational concern about staffing stability: high turnover, low continuity of caregivers, and understaffing are associated with delays in meeting basic needs and demoralized staff in some instances. This creates variability in day-to-day care quality — some residents receive consistently excellent support while others experience lapses.

Dining, activities, and therapy are relative strengths. Reviewers highlight frequent daily activities, staff-led programs, exercise classes, crafts, movies, and outings that support social engagement and cognitive stimulation. Rehabilitation and therapy services are described as effective and non-coercive, and several accounts note positive transitions from rehab to longer-term care when needed. Mealtimes and the dining atmosphere are generally characterized as pleasant, though the community’s meal schedule and pricing structure may not fit every preference.

Facility upkeep and housing features are generally praised for cleanliness, attractive dining rooms, and well-kept cottages and grounds. However, isolated housekeeping and sanitation lapses are referenced, indicating inconsistent housekeeping performance in some units. The community’s cost structure is another clear theme: there are sizable entrance fees and higher ongoing charges, and prospective residents should expect a premium price point.

Management and safety present important considerations. There are noted gaps in safety and security protocols that have led to serious family concerns in at least one instance; communication around incidents and the speed of administrative response are areas some families view as inconsistent. Additionally, there are allegations related to financial handling of resident funds and escrow accounts that warrant careful review. Some comments also surface concerns about cultural sensitivity and an elitist atmosphere, which may affect the experience of diverse residents.

For prospective residents and families: balance the community’s strong programmatic and hospitality attributes against operational risks. During a visit, observe staffing levels during peak care times, ask for written staffing ratios and turnover metrics, review housekeeping and incident-response policies, request copies of contract and escrow terms, and inquire about recent inspections or complaints. Talk with current residents and families about day-to-day consistency and cultural climate. These steps will help clarify whether Friends Village’s amenities and care model align with your expectations and risk tolerance.
