    Caring staff and excellent care

I'm very grateful for the caring, friendly staff who treated my mom like family. The building was clean and welcoming, and the skilled nursing and daily PT/OT rehab were excellent. The medical team and administrator were attentive, aides became friends to my mom, and they gave wonderful care in her last days. I will miss the home-like atmosphere and heartily recommend this facility.

    Summary of reviews

The collection of reviews paints a mixed picture of Good Samaritan Society - Betty Dare. Many families and residents praised the human side of care: direct-care staff are frequently described as compassionate, friendly, and attentive to personal grooming and daily needs. Several accounts highlight effective skilled nursing rehabilitation when it is available, including daily occupational and physical therapy for some residents, and a number of families expressed gratitude for supportive end-of-life care and clear communication from administrators in particular cases. Long-term residents and their families sometimes described a calm, home-like environment and staffโ€“resident rapport.

At the same time, a recurring theme across reviews is operational inconsistency. Staffing levels, turnover, and the use of temporary staff are cited as drivers of variability in experience; this appears to affect response times to call lights, continuity of clinical oversight, and timeliness of medication administration. Some families reported delayed or missed clinical tasks (for example, lab coordination and medication timing), and others raised concerns about fall prevention, wound monitoring, and general follow-up after incidents.

Facility-level issues also emerge repeatedly. Reviewers noted maintenance needs โ€” worn interiors, equipment repairs, and general upkeep โ€” as well as sanitation and odor-control inconsistencies in certain areas. Meal service is described as disorganized at times, with inconsistent portioning and limited monitoring of whether residents actually consume food. Activity programming is reported as limited or absent by several families, which may be a concern for longer-term residents seeking engagement.

Communication and systems coordination show variability: some families experienced attentive administrators and clear updates, while others encountered poor phone responsiveness, gaps in coordination with outside providers, and limited transportation options. Additional operational weaknesses cited include laundry and personal-property controls, intermittent door/security monitoring, and noticeable differences in staffing and services on weekends versus weekdays.

In summary, prospective residents and families should expect a facility with strong personal caregiving in many cases but also prepare for variability in clinical consistency, maintenance, dining logistics, and administrative responsiveness. If possible, clarify current staffing levels, weekend coverage, rehabilitation plans, medication-administration protocols, and property/laundry procedures during a tour or intake conversation to assess whether the facilityโ€™s present operational status will meet the residentโ€™s needs.
