    Attentive compassionate care feels homelike

I placed my mom here and have been very pleased - attentive, compassionate nurses and CNAs, supportive management (Dusty, Brooke, Diana) and an active activities program (Ruby). Clean, friendly staff who respond quickly; residents are engaged and well cared for, and it truly feels like home.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews portray White Sands Healthcare as a facility with notable strengths in day-to-day caregiving, activity programming, and regulatory quality, alongside several recurring operational concerns. Many families and residents praise the caring attitude of nurses, CNAs, and aides; the facility's dementia/Alzheimer’s unit and related programming; and a lively activity calendar that includes outings, bingo, and celebrations. The facility also maintains strong visible cleaning and kitchen practices and has received high marks on state and federal quality metrics.

Care and staff: Numerous accounts highlight compassionate, attentive direct-care staff and experienced nursing leadership; several individual staff members and coordinators were named positively. These strengths appear to support good hospice coordination and successful transitions for some residents. At the same time, reviewers describe inconsistent responsiveness in clinical monitoring and care follow-up, with occasional post-acute or post-surgical situations indicating gaps in timely assessment. Staffing instability and variable workplace culture — including reports of favoritism and interpersonal issues among staff — were noted as factors that can affect consistency of care.

Dining, housekeeping, and facilities: The kitchen and dining operations are described as clean and well organized, and housekeeping and maintenance staff are frequently commended for responsiveness. The building is characterized as older but generally well maintained; reviewers cite prompt fixes for issues such as leaking fixtures. However, the facility’s age contributes to occasional infrastructure needs, and some residents expressed concerns about limited privacy in small shared rooms.

Activities and resident life: Activity programming is a clear strength. An active coordinator organizes a wide range of daily and special events, transportation for outings, and resident-centered celebrations that contribute to a positive atmosphere and resident engagement. Family members frequently report that loved ones enjoy participating in activities and forming social connections.

Management, safety, and administration: Several reviewers describe supportive and engaged leadership, naming administrators and staff who respond well to concerns. Conversely, others describe inconsistent administrative follow-through, unclear visitation and communication policies, and workplace-culture problems that affect staff morale. Security and surveillance controls were singled out as an operational gap (e.g., door-code and camera coverage patterns), and there are serious finance-related concerns in a subset of accounts; these are characterized here as allegations of financial exploitation and POA/estate oversight weaknesses and warrant careful inquiry.

What to ask and consider: For families considering White Sands, the facility’s strong activity program, dementia services, and positive direct-care relationships are important positives. Prospective residents should ask specific questions about staffing levels and turnover, procedures for clinical monitoring after hospital transfers or surgery, the facility’s security and surveillance policies, how the facility handles financial and POA oversight, and the visitation/communication protocols for families. Those areas are where reviewers most commonly recommend seeking clarity to ensure care consistency and safety.

    About White Sands Healthcare

White Sands Healthcare sits in Hobbs, New Mexico, right on N Lovington Hwy, and there's really a lot going on inside, since you're looking at a nursing home with both long and short-term care, offering everything from regular nursing to skilled nursing and therapy, and the folks who work here call themselves professionals who take the warmth and care part pretty seriously, so if you end up needing rehabilitation after surgery, illness, or accidents, you'll find doctor-recommended programs and 24-hour nursing, which sure seems useful if something pops up at night or if you just need that extra helping hand to get back on your feet, and they do both short stays and longer ones-from people who just got out of the hospital needing a quick recovery, to those who need more extended support. Now, the rooms are private and come with their own amenities like central air, telephones, and televisions, at least in the short stay units, and there's housekeeping, on-site maintenance, beauty and barber services, and dining and common areas that feel a bit lively, maybe to help lift your spirits, and they do try to keep things comfortable and pleasant so people can heal and maybe even enjoy the process a bit more. They've got experienced staff, including licensed nurses, therapists, and even something called a Patient Navigator, which sounds like someone who helps guide you through care choices, and the overall idea is that they have a continuum of care, so you can stay for a short while or a longer time depending on your needs. The place isn't just about general nursing-they also do specialized rehabilitation for things like cardiac issues, orthopedic needs, strokes, respiratory or pulmonary problems, amputation, hip and knee repairs, and help for those feeling generally weak or needing more support regaining independence, and they really seem to want everyone to get back home to family when that's possible. They also provide palliative care and home health care, with all the safety and disability fixtures you'd expect, and the overall rating from public reviews stands at about 3.7 from 22 people, so it seems to work for some, though as always, folks might want to look closer based on their own needs. White Sands Healthcare offers a full set of resources for long-term care, family caregiving, and help with long-term care insurance, and you'll find services tailored to different patient populations, though specific lists of activities or special add-ons aren't available in the public information. The facility is privately operated, and the aim appears to be keeping things supportive and professional with a team dedicated to helping folks meet their goals in a warm, safe space.
