    Caring staff, clean renovated facility

I placed my mom here and I'm very pleased - the staff are wonderful and incredibly caring (special thanks to Ami, Marni, Grace and Diane), the facility is clean, newly renovated and home-like with good meals (kosher/vegetarian options), lots of activities, on-site laundry and medication management, responsive management, and a convenient location; residents look happy and engaged so I'd recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Long Island Living Center presents as a community with a clear emphasis on social engagement, basic clinical coverage, and affordability. Many reviewers praised the staff for being friendly, attentive, and accommodating; the admissions process and tours are frequently described as informative and personalized. The facility offers a broad slate of activities and amenities — including a movie/theater room, library, art and game rooms, beauty parlor, pool table, and secure outdoor spaces — and provides laundry, housekeeping, and medication-management services. Dining is framed as restaurant-style, with three meals daily, snacks available, and kosher and other diet-sensitive options offered.

Care and staffing are a notable strength in many accounts: reviewers frequently describe courteous nursing presence, regular physician rounds, and caregivers who engage residents in daily activities. That said, there is variability in staff performance. Several comments point to inconsistent professionalism and communication tone among direct-care aides and occasional training gaps. Families considering the community should ask about current staffing ratios, aide training programs, and procedures for clinical incidents, as some reviews described delays or communication shortfalls following serious events.

Dining receives generally positive attention for facility dining rooms and kosher availability, but food quality is described as uneven. A number of reviewers appreciated the dining environment and portioning, while others noted limited options for warming brought-in kosher food and periods of lower satisfaction with menu execution. Prospective residents with strict dietary needs should confirm how specific accommodations are handled and whether kitchen policies meet their expectations.

Activities and communal life are extensive on paper and in many residents’ experiences; programming includes arts and crafts, music, theater nights, movies, chess/dominoes groups, and other social events. Participation levels appear mixed — while some residents are actively engaged, other accounts describe periods when common areas seem underutilized and resident interaction is limited. Ask about the activity coordinator’s schedule, program attendance, and opportunities for residents to suggest or lead events.

Facilities vary within the campus. Many interior spaces, dining rooms, and common areas are described as clean and attractive, and parts of the building have been renovated. At the same time, several reviews point to dated furnishings, peeling paint, small room footprints, and exterior maintenance needs. Shared-room arrangements are common due to affordability constraints; single private rooms are available but can be more costly. Prospective residents should inspect specific unit sizes, bathroom configurations, and recent renovation work during a visit.

Management impressions are mixed: the front-desk and admissions teams are often described as helpful and patient, but there are occasional reports of brusque or unresponsive interactions with management or supervisory staff. Families should clarify grievance procedures, communication expectations, and how the facility handles clinical concerns and family notifications. Overall, Long Island Living Center offers a cost-conscious, activity-rich option with many engaged caregivers and useful amenities, but prospective residents should verify staffing practices, sanitation protocols, room-privacy options, and dietary accommodations during an in-person tour and by asking targeted operational questions.

    About Long Island Living Center

Long Island Living Center sits in the Wave Crest neighborhood and provides assisted living, memory care for Alzheimer's, skilled nursing, and independent living choices, so folks get support that fits what they need, and what you see when you walk in is this magnificent lobby with comfortable lounges and public spots people gather in, with the whole place feeling pretty plush and homelike, not cold or hospital-like, and there's a baby grand piano, a big-screen TV, a billiards table, and this colorful aquarium in the main common area where people can just relax with others or on their own time. Residents have options for rooms, including studios, semi-private, and private units, that are decorated with contemporary furnishings against calming blue walls, and there's a shaded outdoor patio with trees and shrubs, plus gardens people can stroll or just sit a while, since the neighborhood's got a Walk Score® of 87 if somebody enjoys a walk outside. Seniors get meals in a community dining room, with kosher, low-sodium, and special diets offered, and there's help with bathing, dressing, grooming, and medications, including organizing appointments and monitoring medicine schedules, while medical care covers a wide range, like internal medicine, psychiatry, dermatology, eye care, ear-nose-throat, dental, skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational and speech therapy, even outpatient dialysis and inhalation treatments when someone needs that. Housekeeping takes care of cleaning and laundry-including dry cleaning and fresh linens-so folks don't have to worry about chores, and there's transportation and parking around if residents need to get out for appointments or activities. A busy social calendar fills the days with exercise classes, bingo, musical performances, picnics, pizza night, table games, and field trips, and there's advice and planning services for seniors and families looking for guidance. Everyone gets English language support, dietary supervision, and options for independent living, residential care, assisted living, or memory care, depending on what fits. The staff aims to make days rewarding and pleasant, offering company and a helping hand so residents can live as comfortably as possible.
