    Attentive staff, upscale resort living

I live at Appleridge and I'm very pleased - the caring, attentive staff provide round-the-clock personal service, apartments are upscale and well-maintained, and the grounds feel resort-like. Meals are excellent, there are abundant daily and educational activities, and residents are friendly so a real sense of community develops. I feel safe, well cared for, and would happily recommend it to others.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Appleridge Senior Living is frequently described as a well-appointed, resort-style community with strong social programming and a service-oriented atmosphere. Many comments highlight attractive architecture, roomy, light-filled apartments, and a broad set of on-site amenities (salon, fitness room, library, bar/recreation areas) that support an active lifestyle. Residents and families commonly cite a sense of safety, security, and improved quality of life for newcomers once they settle in.

Care and staff: The dominant narrative emphasizes compassionate, attentive staff who build personal relationships with residents and provide personalized assistance around the clock for those who need it. Families and residents commonly note quick responsiveness, familiarity with residents’ names, and an ability to provide medication support and nursing assistance. However, there is a contrasting pattern of concerns about staff conduct and continuity: several accounts indicate elevated turnover and uneven staff training or performance, which some families link to inconsistent experiences. These concerns extend to occasional perceptions of reduced interaction during times of understaffing.

Dining: Dining is a prominent strength for many residents. Reviews reference chef-driven meals, creative offerings for special events, and a generally positive dining atmosphere. At the same time, there is evidence of variability: some families report difficulty getting specific dietary accommodations, disagreement over meal-value or menu consistency, and an extra charge structure for certain meals (for example, breakfast charges). Prospective residents should assess dietary needs and cost inclusions during a tour.

Activities and social life: Appleridge offers a rich and varied activity calendar that supports social engagement, learning, and outings. Reported offerings include fitness groups, lectures, films, field trips, arts and crafts, games, and themed social events; these programs contribute to visible camaraderie among residents and help many people form new friendships. New residents sometimes describe an adjustment period before fully integrating into the community, but most accounts indicate active participation and satisfaction with programming once settled.

Facilities and maintenance: The property is frequently described as clean, upscale, and well maintained, with attractive common spaces and panoramic views. On-site amenities such as garages, pool table areas, fireplaces, and event spaces are consistently noted. There are, however, isolated sanitation and pest-control concerns that prospective residents should clarify with management and through inspection. Housekeeping and maintenance responsiveness is otherwise cited positively.

Management and communication: Several reviews praise responsive management and helpful move-in support, while others describe variable leadership responsiveness and gaps in family communication. Specific operational issues cited by families include perceived brusque communication tone, uneven follow-through, and an administrative style that some characterize as inconsistent. These patterns suggest that management practices can vary over time or by staff shift; prospective families may want to ask about leadership continuity, escalation pathways, and communication protocols.

Notable patterns and practical guidance: The aggregate of feedback portrays a community that delivers a high level of social programming, attractive living spaces, and many instances of excellent, individualized care. At the same time, there are recurring operational themes—staff turnover, variable management communication, occasional sanitation/pest-control issues, and weekend staffing limitations—that merit direct inquiry. Cost structure and what is included in rent or fees (for example, meal charges, cable, or salon services) are also areas to verify. Visitors should tour multiple apartment types, inspect cleanliness and pest-control measures, sample dining, and discuss staffing patterns and communication expectations with leadership before making a decision.

    About Appleridge Senior Living

Appleridge Senior Living sits on a quiet 22-acre hilltop above Horseheads, NY, with woods all around and views of the hills that folks seem to enjoy. The independent living community is built for people 55 and up, though the details sometimes say 65, and it offers 112 apartments in different sizes-one-bedroom, two-bedroom, some have extra dens, and lots of them offer nice touches like walk-in closets, washers and dryers, and full kitchens with all the usual appliances like a stove, dishwasher, microwave, and refrigerator. There's heating and air you can control yourself, and every bathroom has emergency call buttons for added peace of mind. The campus has its own parking for both residents and guests, and no one can smoke inside, whether it's an apartment or a lounge.

Appleridge has apartment and luxury apartment options, and the building is licensed by the State. There's a focus on making life easier-staff take care of maintenance and housekeeping, there are meal plans, and folks can get around using private transportation or scheduled outings into the community. The facility also allows pets. There's a recreation room, a fitness and wellness room, a full hair salon and barber shop, outdoor patios, gardens, and indoor and outdoor common spaces, plus a senior center for social activities. The amenity spaces cover over 12,000 square feet, with things like a theater, library, billiards and table games, a meditation room, and a confections boutique for treats and snacks. Residents and their guests get to eat in an elegant dining room together, while a café serves breakfast and coffee in the morning along with fruit and pastries. Folks can take part in community events, crafts, fitness classes, education programs, and special excursions. Men and women are both welcome, and they offer apartments for residents with different mobility needs, too, including features like wheelchair-accessible showers.

The community supports seniors with different care needs. They've got independent living for those who don't need daily help, but they also offer enhanced assisted living, memory care for people with dementia, short-term rehab, nursing services, and even trained aides who can help with things like companionship or non-medical care at home. Staff can help with bathing, dressing, and making sure medicines get taken, if that's needed, which can be comforting for families. The staff runs social programs, devotional services, and wellness activities, and emphasizes a social environment with restaurant-style dining, outings, worship services, and events meant to bring people together. Cable TV, phone, and internet all come with the apartments.

The apartments are set up so you don't have to worry about things like fixing stuff or keeping up a house. Safety is a priority, with call buttons in the bathrooms, smoke alarms, and a sprinkler system, plus there are security features included in some of the resident packages. Guests can visit, and loved ones can take part in meals or events if they want. Payment can be made by check or credit card, and the pricing they call "all-inclusive," which means meals, snacks, housekeeping, and activities are wrapped into the cost, so folks know what they're paying for.

Through the years, Appleridge has earned high ratings from residents and their families, including some awards. There are virtual tours for those who can't make it in person right away, and sometimes there are model apartments open so people can see how rooms are set up. It's a place where folks can keep busy, relax and spend time with others, and get help if they need it, all in a comfortable, scenic place above the town.
