    Warm small family-like caring community

I live here and feel truly at home - the small, well-kept building has a warm, family-like vibe and staff who are caring, professional, and dedicated. My private single room (shared bath) is comfortable and my independence is respected; the activity director runs a lively, varied program with in-house events and frequent outings (farm trips, sheep shearing, shopping and lunches). Holidays and decorations make the place cheerful, and being small means lots of personal attention and easy access to local parades and events.

About Willing Helpers Home for Women

Willing Helpers Home For Women is a senior living home for women located at 226 W Madison Ave in West Downtown, Johnstown, New York, and has been around awhile as a trusted, family-friendly place in the area, being licensed by the New York State Department of Health and inspected by the state, offering 20 private, comfortable rooms in a well-kept, homey building that's not a nursing home but gives a warm, welcoming feeling with big open decks, covered porches, and nice walking paths where folks can enjoy some air, and it's got a resident cat named Cooter that many of the ladies enjoy. They serve nutritious meals every day and adjust diets for those who need it after talking with the doctor, plus meals come included for everyone, and there's a beauty salon right on the grounds, so folks can get their hair done without leaving. Women here find support with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and laundry, and they get help with things like diabetic care, incontinence, ambulatory and non-ambulatory needs, and anybody needing a little more supervision always gets it since there's staff around 24 hours, all supervised by a director named Tammy Kruger who oversees things and the weekly visits from a licensed physician who keeps tabs on everybody's health. There are plenty of things to do including weekly Bingo, an exercise program, community outings, seasonal activities like hatching Monarch butterflies in the fall, holiday teas and Mother's Day brunches, socials, and on-site devotional and religious services run by local clergy, plus both indoor and outdoor common spaces for sitting or getting to know other women. The activities coordinator keeps things lively and interesting, and women can also use private phone and cable services in their own rooms and enjoy quiet time or have friends over in the common areas. Alzheimer's care and hospice are available when needed, and both independent and assisted living services are offered to help every resident stay as independent as possible but still get help when it's needed. The staff tries to make everyone feel safe, comfortable, and at home while giving families peace of mind that their loved ones are in a caring and well-run place. Tours are available for women who want to see where they might live, meet other residents, and see for themselves how life goes here, and it's a good, steady option for women in need of some extra help while wanting to keep as much independence as they can.
