    Caring staff, good meals, peaceful

I've been very happy with our experience - the staff are friendly, respectful and responsive, the building and grounds are spotless and peaceful, and meals are consistently good (included). Activities, on-site amenities (salon, laundry) and transportation make daily life easy, it's pet-friendly, and the director/care team made the move feel smooth and home-like. A few downsides: some rooms are small, the sales rep's pitch felt misleading, and we had a couple of pharmacy/medication hiccups. Overall I'd recommend it for the caring staff, quality meals and lovely setting.

    About Brookdale Lakewood

Brookdale Lakewood sits in a peaceful area with lovely woods, gardens, and even an apple orchard, so residents can enjoy walks on the 16-acre campus and watch the seasons change, and if you look out from some spots you can see the view of Chautauqua Lake, which brings a bit of calm to each day. There are housing options for different needs, including studio, alcove, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, all of them with private bathrooms, kitchenettes with sinks, microwaves, and refrigerators, and lots of natural light, plus you can even bring pets, so people and their furry companions can both feel at home. Many folks enjoy that there's space for grandchildren to visit and for pets to get comfortable in the apartments.

The community offers several care choices like assisted living, independent living, memory care, nursing and rehab, adult day care, home health, and even at-home care services, so people can stay at Brookdale Lakewood as their needs change, and the Enriched Housing Program means residents can choose to spend time with friends, relax, or join activities whenever they want. The staff are around 24 hours every day and always ready for emergencies, which does bring families peace of mind, and every apartment has an emergency call system, so help is never too far away. The caring staff members help with daily needs like bathing, dressing, meals, reminders, redirection, medication management, and simple housekeeping, but don't hover or intrude-they always try to respect privacy and encourage independence where possible.

Meals here feel home-cooked, with a restaurant-style setting, and there's a private dining room for celebrating special moments with family or friends. Brookdale Lakewood keeps up with daily activities, special events, clubs, and arts and crafts programs, and you'll often find people working on a puzzle or chatting in the game room, reading in the library, or attending religious services right on-site. There's a fitness center with programs like Tai Chi and the B-Fit exercise and wellness series, and the Brain Fit program helps promote brain health with various activities and games. Campus features also include walking paths, courtyard gardens, porch seating, a beauty salon for hair appointments, an art studio, a game room, and a pharmacy on campus, making it easier to handle routine needs.

Residents don't have to worry about chores, since staff take care of housekeeping, laundry, linen services, and home maintenance, and scheduled transportation is available for shopping, outings, and medical appointments. Apartments are available with month-to-month leases, and payment options include private funds and long-term care insurance. The team at Brookdale Lakewood, owned and operated by Brookdale Senior Living since 1978, really focuses on creating a comfortable, homelike setting, making residents feel welcome with cheerful greetings and respect for personal choices every day, and care plans are tailored for each person, so you only pay for the exact level of support needed, which relieves a lot of stress for families. The overall feeling is one of community, honesty, and steady routines, surrounded by beautiful scenery and a staff who know how to balance assistance and independence.

    About Brookdale

Brookdale Lakewood is managed by Brookdale.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.

The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.

Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.

The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.

Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
