    Caring staff, clean, welcoming, affordable

I've trusted this assisted living with my mom for nearly six years - the staff are patient, kind and genuinely loving, greet her by name, and make personalized accommodations (slow-eater dining, smooth transition to nursing care). The facility is clean and updated, residents are engaged with activities and wellness programs (yes, there's daily ice cream), and management, admissions and maintenance are supportive - it's given our family real peace of mind. I recommend an in-person tour; it's a welcoming, affordable option on Long Island that accepts Medicaid.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewer feedback for this facility is mixed, with distinct strengths in day-to-day caregiving, activities, and certain clinical services, alongside recurring operational concerns. Many families praised individual staff members for compassion, personalization, and continuity of care: aides and some nurses were described as kind, attentive, and able to build rapport (greeting residents by name, accommodating slow diners, and providing reassuring updates). Physical therapy and rehabilitation services received positive mentions, and activity and wellness programming (including engaging offerings and social events) were cited as meaningful contributors to residents' quality of life.

Dining and nutrition are frequently highlighted as strengths when individualized attention is provided; reviewers described dietary accommodations, pleasant meal experiences, and staff who monitored intake. The facility's grounds and many common areas are noted as clean and updated, and several families appreciated the admissions and transition process when it was supportive. The presence of a Medicaid-accepted assisted-living option was specifically mentioned as improving affordability for some families.

At the same time, comments identify several operational weaknesses that prospective families should evaluate carefully. Communication and notification processes appear inconsistent: families described delays or failures in being informed about hospital transfers and clinical changes. Relatedly, response times to call systems and resident requests were cited as a repeated concern, creating anxiety about timeliness of care. There are also sanitation- and incontinence-care management gaps reported by some families, which overlap with criticisms of housekeeping and laundry follow-through in certain units. Maintenance responsiveness and pest-control concerns were raised in a minority of accounts.

Clinical oversight and incident follow-up were areas of particular concern for some reviewers. A subset described unsatisfactory medical follow-up after illness or hospitalization and questioned nursing leadership responsiveness. Several families expressed that the community may not be well suited for residents with advanced memory impairment, citing exclusion from activities and challenges in accommodating higher-acuity dementia care needs.

Other operational patterns include disagreement over communication technology choices: the removal of traditional landlines in favor of digital systems created accessibility and fairness issues for residents and families who rely on non-digital contact methods. There are also occasional reports of inconsistent management responsiveness from social services or administration, and some families weighed cost against perceived value.

Overall, experiences range from highly positive (noting compassionate staff, clean areas, strong therapy and activities, and supportive transitions) to significant concern (centered on communication failures, responsiveness, sanitation management, and suitability for complex memory care). Prospective residents and families should arrange an in-person visit focused on call-response times, communication protocols for clinical events, staffing levels and turnover, memory-care programming, observable cleanliness in private rooms and common areas, and the facility's current approach to resident communication options (landline vs. digital). Asking for recent inspection or quality reports and speaking with current families can help clarify whether the operational concerns identified here are isolated or persistent.

    About Braemar at Medford

Braemar at Medford is a senior living community with a lot of choices for older adults, and you'll find independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and even adult day care all on the same grounds, which makes it easier when people's needs change. There are about 200 beds for assisted living residents, and the place has studio and two-bedroom apartments-some with kitchens, all fully furnished, with private or semi-private layouts and individualized climate controls. There's a 24-hour monitored emergency call system, so help's always close at hand, and staff are friendly and available at all hours. Residents can get help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, medication, and there's a licensed home care services agency and the Wellness Department making sure care stays personal and up to date. For those living with Alzheimer's or dementia, memory care is built in with safe areas and programs made for memory support, and the place is licensed (Adult Care Facility #AF0660A), so it's held to state standards.

Braemar at Medford has resort-like touches, too, but what's practical is that it's got a beauty salon and barber, a library, high-speed internet, and a golf putting green outside, plus walking paths, gazebos, and nice gardens where folks can stretch their legs and enjoy a bit of green. There's an indoor area to catch up with company, a private dining room for special get-togethers, a lively pub, and a 24-hour café for snacks any time. The restaurant-style dining room serves nutritious meals, planned out by chefs, and there's housekeeping, linen services, laundry, and even dry-cleaning included, so there's less to worry about. Transportation goes to shopping, community events, and houses of worship, and there's even on-site physicians' offices if residents need to see a doctor without leaving the property. Activities keep things interesting-both onsite and offsite, including social events, educational talks, and even multi-denominational religious services, so there's always something to do or somebody to talk to.

Braemar at Medford has programs for independent seniors who want to stay active as well as those needing more support, and the adult day care is good for folks who need daytime help or company. Everything's set up for older adults who'd like a safe place, with good company, nice surroundings, and staff who'll help with the details, and there's a comfortable, positive feeling that comes from how they plan activities and maintain the grounds. So if someone's looking for a mix of care levels, comfortable housing, meals provided, and a variety of activities without too much fuss or fancy promise, this place covers a lot of ground and seems well suited for older folks looking for the basics done right.
