    Caring staff and effective rehab

I stayed at Riverview Manor for rehab after surgery and was very pleased with the caring, professional staff - nurses, therapy team, and medical staff kept me safe and informed (Nurse Joline's daily updates were great). The facility is fresh, clean, nicely modernizing, with tasty meals, lively activities, lovely gardens, and familiar, cheerful caregivers who made me feel at home. I recommend Riverview Manor for short- and long-term care - my rehab progressed quickly and I felt well cared for.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Riverview Manor Health Care present a mixed but clarifying picture. Many families and residents praise the clinical rehabilitation services, describing skilled therapy teams, effective short-term rehab outcomes, and efficient transitions home. Nursing staff and frontline caregivers are frequently characterized as caring, communicative, and attentive; reviewers cited daily updates and individualized interactions as strengths. The facility itself receives positive comments for recent remodeling, attractive grounds, and an overall clean, modernized environment, making it appealing for short-term rehabilitation stays.

Clinical-care strengths appear concentrated in physical and occupational therapy, where reviewers noted hardworking therapists and measurable progress. Nursing communication—daily updates and clear family outreach—was repeatedly highlighted as a positive. At the same time, reviews identify operational gaps that affect quality of care: inconsistent attention to incontinence care, sanitation concerns in some shared bathrooms and common spaces, lapses in personal-property management, and incidents suggesting weaknesses in fall-prevention and transfer safety. These are described as recurring operational patterns rather than isolated praise points.

Staffing and management emerge as a central tension. Many reviewers commend aides and nursing staff for compassion and day-to-day interactions, yet the facility is also described as chronically understaffed, with long staff hours and perceived low compensation contributing to fatigue and uneven performance. Several comments point to inconsistent administrative responsiveness and oversight; reviewers connected leadership shortcomings to variability in communication, resident care consistency, and staff conduct—some noting concerns about on-shift substance-use behavior and insufficient supervision.

Food and activities elicit mixed feedback. Some residents and families enjoy the menu and find activities engaging and socially beneficial; others report inconsistent meal quality, cold or late service, and repetitive offerings. Activities and social opportunities—especially in shared rooms and small-community settings—are frequently cited as contributing positively to resident morale, but shared accommodations also raise privacy and sanitation considerations that families should evaluate.

The facility’s remodeling and cleanliness improvements are a notable positive trend, though construction-related noise and temporary disruption were mentioned. Safety and emergency-readiness also surfaced as an area for verification: reviewers described at least one concerning evacuation experience, suggesting prospective residents and families should ask about current emergency procedures and recent drills. Overall, Riverview Manor appears well-suited for short-term rehabilitation and offers many strengths in therapy, nursing communication, and environment. Prospective residents and families should balance those strengths against operational concerns—staffing levels, administrative oversight, sanitation in shared areas, meal-service consistency, personal-property safeguards, and emergency protocols—by asking targeted questions during tours and confirming current staffing and safety practices.

    About Riverview Manor Health Care

Riverview Manor Health Care Center sits on 510 5th Ave in Owego, NY, and you'll find it's a nonprofit, Medicare- and Medicaid-certified skilled nursing facility that provides both long-term and short-term care with a real emphasis on resident-centered support, and you know, the building's actually wheelchair accessible throughout, with handicap-accessible parking and restrooms, so folks with mobility challenges find the place easy to get around. Care and rehabilitation come from Riverview Rehabilitation and Nursing with skilled and experienced therapists and nurses around day and night, because the place is open 24/7, and they accept new patients at any time. They cover rehabilitation-physical, occupational, and speech therapies for things like joint replacement or stroke recovery-or if someone just needs a bit of help getting back on their feet, and they even offer outpatient therapy and day care programs, which is handy for folks who don't need to stay overnight. People who need specialized care for memory issues, such as Alzheimer's or dementia, get attention through individualized care plans, and the WanderGuard system helps reduce wandering and keeps people safe. There's a strong focus on nutritious meals since chefs and meal planners think hard about taste and nutrition, and their dining has even gotten awards for quality, so meals should be both good and good for you. Residents have social, physical, mental, and emotional activities to choose from, and the place is known for friendly staff who get recognized for being helpful and kind, so you get a welcoming environment every day. You'll see enclosed gardens, a fish pond, and a gazebo overlooking the river, where people enjoy a bit of nature on manicured lawns, and if someone wants spiritual support, regular religious services and pastoral care are there. Other conveniences include laundry, housekeeping, beautician and barber services, and cable TV and phone service at no extra charge, and there's a therapy gym and rooms for group and individual activities. The center stays up to date with modernized facilities and offers things like X-rays, pharmacy, diagnostic testing, internal nutrition therapy, and wound care, plus medication management and transportation for outings or appointments. Riverview Manor encourages mutual respect and has a clear policy against discrimination, bullying, and differential treatment, actively working to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone, and they're also part of Nascentia Health's network, including engagement with plans such as Nascentia Dual Advantage and Nascentia Health Plus, all tied to Medicare. With both short-term and long-term care, hospice, palliative support, pain management, and a whole team approach that uses personal care plans for each resident, the place has a strong commitment to maintaining or improving the quality of life for people at different ages and stages, whether they need just a little help or full-time support.
