    Warm attentive staff great meals

I placed my loved one here and feel very comfortable with the care - the staff (owner on-site, many nurses and caring aides) are attentive, knowledgeable and genuinely family-like. The place is immaculate and safe, with comfortable private/semiprivate rooms, skilled nursing and a social worker available. Meals are homecooked and appealing (great marinara, fresh Italian bread, plentiful entrees and desserts), Wilson was a standout server, and there are lots of activities, live music and a lovely deck with mountain views - I highly recommend this warm, well-run community.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The Carlucci Home is consistently described as a small, home-like residential care setting with a strong emphasis on cleanliness, close staff attention, and a family-oriented atmosphere. Many reviewers highlight a high level of individualized caregiving supported by on-site licensed nursing, an accessible owner presence, and a favorable staff-to-resident ratio. The facility’s environment is frequently characterized as comfortable and non-institutional, with private and semi-private room options and communal spaces such as a dining room, deck with views, and garden areas.

Care and staff: Care quality is generally rated highly. Reviewers emphasize attentive and compassionate aides, competent nursing staff, medication advocacy, and the presence of a social worker. Staffing levels are often described as sufficient for residents’ needs. At the same time, a minority of comments point to occasional lapses in professionalism and some management–staff communication gaps; these are framed as intermittent operational weaknesses rather than pervasive clinical failures.

Dining and dietary accommodations: Meals receive mostly favorable comments for being homestyle, plentiful, and accommodating of special diets (including texture-modified options). Some reviewers praised particular servers or dishes. There is some variability noted in meal quality and presentation, so families should verify current menus and examples if dining experience is a priority.

Activities and social life: The program offers a range of social activities — music, crafts, bingo, holiday events and day-to-day socialization that contribute to resident happiness. However, activity scheduling and frequency are described as inconsistent by multiple observers, and claims about organized outings or day trips may not always be fulfilled. A beautician is available on-site, but the service level was described as more limited than a full salon.

Facilities and safety: The facility is described as very clean with up-to-date health and safety protocols, making for a secure living environment. Physical features cited positively include spacious rooms, a dining area, an outdoor deck, garden access, and mobility aids such as a chair lift. These elements support a residential feel and easy family visits.

Management, cost, and notable patterns: Ownership involvement is seen as a strength when present, contributing to responsiveness and a family-like culture; however, some reviewers perceive a disconnect between ownership and day-to-day management. Pricing is frequently described as high and, in some accounts, lacking clarity around additional charges for increased care — prospective families should request a detailed fee schedule and escalation criteria. In summary, The Carlucci Home presents as a clean, well-staffed, and caring small community with strong home-style dining and safety practices; potential residents and families should weigh the trade-offs around activity reliability, service transparency, and cost when considering placement.

    About The Carlucci Home

The Carlucci Home in Port Jervis, New York, is a family-owned and operated senior living community for women that's been around for over 40 years, and folks say it's got friendly staff and a welcoming environment, which is something that helps people settle in. The building is a bit smaller than some others, so the staff know the residents and can focus attention and care on them, and they've got a higher staff-to-resident ratio, which means help comes quicker if you need it and care planning stays personal. The Carlucci Home has both private and semi-private rooms, with semi-private rooms costing about $3,400 a month, and other room types like studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms might be available depending on needs, but there are extra charges for the level of care required-$400 a month for high care needs and $300 a month for medium, with additional fees for some services.

They serve three home-cooked meals daily, and there's always something to eat if you need a kosher or vegetarian option, and that's helpful for folks with different diets, and you won't have to worry about making the meals yourself. Residents can enjoy both indoor and outdoor common spaces, join in special activities every week like BBQs, crafts, bingo, movies, exercise, walking club, and holiday parties, and sometimes you'll see music acts, pets visiting, scout groups, or the Red Hat Club stopping by, and residents even get a say in menu planning for the bigger events. There's a secure memory care area with purpose-built safety features, including alarm bracelets for folks who tend to wander, and staff can care for people with Alzheimer's, dementia, diabetes, and even behavioral symptoms, so residents can age in place without having to move as needs increase, which makes things easier on families.

They provide medical help with licensed nurses on staff, a doctor on call, and visiting professionals like podiatrists, therapists, and others, so regular health checks aren't a hassle, and diabetes management is possible, including insulin administration and blood sugar checks. The Carlucci Home has nurses and resident care aides around 24 hours a day, and someone's awake even at night for emergencies, while also handling daily tasks like housekeeping, laundry, and stand-by assistance with transfers, including with lifts if residents need extra help getting around. People who rely on wheelchairs or need help with incontinence can get that support here, as all showers are wheelchair accessible, and there's an on-site beautician, while devotional services take place offsite if you want to attend.

Residents have access to parking and transportation can be arranged for medical appointments, though there's an extra charge for some of these services, and the place is designed to make it easy for folks to move about indoors and outdoors and to have internet access, keeping in touch with family and friends or just catching up on news. Activities, laundry, housekeeping, medical services, and supportive services like hospice or respite care are all available, letting you or your family member stay longer in familiar surroundings. The Carlucci Home only takes women aged 55 and older, and reviews mention quality care. The Home has received a few awards, including Best of Senior Living and Best Activities, and they've got special training for their staff, like RNs, LPNs, and resident care aides, always trying to put care and safety first while supporting independence as much as possible. Tours are available so people can see how daily life goes, what meals look like, and how the activities work. The main goal is to help women live with comfort, routine, and enough support as their needs change.
