    Warm family-like care and improvements

I moved my grandmother in recently and the transition was easy thanks to a helpful admissions director. The caring, hardworking team - from nursing and housekeeping to administration and an amazing activities director who organizes cookouts, parties and visits - has created a warm, family-like atmosphere full of smiles and engagement. With new leadership and visible improvements in nursing, housekeeping and food service, I'm very pleased and optimistic about continued progress.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews describe a facility with clear strengths in rehabilitation, activities, and moments of compassionate care, alongside recurring operational weaknesses that have affected family confidence. The therapy team and rehabilitation services receive consistent praise for clinical skill and effectiveness. The activities program and its director are highlighted as a major positive driver of resident engagement and morale, organizing social events, visits, and varied programming that families and residents describe as uplifting. Several reviewers also noted attentive physicians and nurse practitioners, supportive admissions staff, and instances of strong teamwork that contribute positively to the resident experience.

At the same time, reviewer feedback indicates inconsistent performance in core nursing and housekeeping functions. Multiple accounts describe chronic understaffing and turnover that correlate with delays in care, inconsistent responsiveness from nursing assistants and licensed staff, and variability in medication handling. One serious concern raised involves alleged medication misappropriation; families should treat that as a high-priority inquiry when assessing the facility. Reviewers also describe sanitation and housekeeping lapses inside the building, including trash management and flooring cleanliness, although more recent comments indicate some improvement after staffing and service changes.

Dining and dietary management are another mixed area. There are reports of missed meals, lost trays, and lack of attention to specific dietary needs such as gluten-free options. Some families reported improvements after food-service changes, but reliability and meal-timing practices remain areas to verify in person. Personal-care timing was also identified as a problem in some accounts, including delays in assistance with toileting or bathing needs; these are operational issues tied to staffing levels and task prioritization.

Management and culture show signs of transition. Several reviewers described positive leadership changes โ€” an experienced Director of Nursing, improved housekeeping and food-service oversight, and renewed enthusiasm from staff โ€” which some families say have led to measurable improvements. Conversely, other reviewers perceived management as emphasizing billing and insurance matters over clinical discussions, which has eroded trust for some families. Given this mixed picture, the facility appears to be in a partial turnaround phase: meaningful improvements are being reported alongside persistent structural issues.

Recommendations for prospective residents and families: visit at varied times of day to observe staffing levels and meal service; ask for current staffing ratios, turnover metrics, and examples of how dietary restrictions are managed; request documentation on medication-administration controls and any corrective actions taken for past incidents; and meet the activities and therapy teams to evaluate program fit. The facility offers strong social and rehabilitative programming and has had positive leadership changes, but operational risks related to staffing, sanitation, and reliability of clinical and dining services warrant careful, up-to-date verification before placement.

    About Accordius Health at Statesville

Accordius Health at Statesville sits at 520 Valley St in Statesville, NC, providing skilled nursing home care for people who need constant medical help and can't live on their own anymore, sometimes just for a short period while recovering between hospital and home, and other times for the long haul when health really won't improve. You'll find staff on hand around the clock, including certified nurses, doctors, licensed medical people, nursing assistants, and physical therapists, all working together to give each resident the kind of care they specifically need, which means helping with bathing, getting dressed, eating, taking medicine, moving around, and whatever else comes up in a regular day. Folks who stay here can get their medicine right at the facility since they store and hand out drugs as part of care, and they fix and serve meals, even using organic ingredients. Rooms come private or shared, already furnished with things like kitchenettes, bathrooms, air-conditioning, phones, internet, and cable, so people have what they need to be comfortable. The place tries to be safe, especially for those prone to wandering, with secure areas, and you'll notice they can arrange rides to doctors or help someone get out to an appointment. They keep everything clean, manage laundry, and have systems in place if someone needs help in the middle of the night. The nursing home qualifies for both Medicare and Medicaid, meeting federal standards, and it's connected to Accordius Health, as well as Sava Senior Care, Solstas Lab Partners, and Iredell Surgical Center. Some staff members speak English and others can speak more languages, though there's no extra information about friendships, clubs, or activities. Right now, Accordius Health at Statesville isn't taking new residents, but they tell people to check back later for availability.
