    Warm staff comfortable independent living

I'm very pleased with St. Gabriel's - the staff are warm, professional, and attentive, and leadership feels caring. My spacious, beautifully kept apartment, delicious meals, frequent activities, and available rehab services have helped my independence and made it feel like home. It's a safe, well-managed community I would recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment in the collected reviews for Benedictine Living Community–Bismarck is strongly positive, with repeated praise centered on the staff, care quality, dining, and the physical environment. Multiple reviewers highlight the staff as a major strength — described as helpful, friendly, kind, professional, warm and caring — and leadership is called out specifically as warm and caring. These descriptions appear consistently across reviews and contribute to a clear impression that residents and families feel supported and respected by the team.

Clinical and rehabilitation services receive explicit positive notes. Several reviews mention outstanding therapists and measurable progress toward independence, indicating that rehabilitation and therapy programs are effective and produce meaningful outcomes for residents. Combined with comments that residents are very pleased with the care and that staff are pleasant and professional, the reviews portray a facility that both meets clinical needs and focuses on functional recovery.

The physical environment and overall atmosphere also receive favorable commentary. The community is described as beautiful, comfortable, clean, well-kept, and homey. Residents and family members repeatedly use words like enjoyable and comfortable, and one reviewer explicitly stated they would love to live there. Good parking and an enjoyable community environment are additional practical positives that support day-to-day convenience and quality of life.

Dining is another clear strength. Multiple reviewers mention good, wonderful, or great food; one reviewer noted that a family member (the daughter) manages the kitchen, which may indicate close family involvement or attention to culinary operations. Overall, dining appears to be a reliably positive aspect of the resident experience.

Concerns are limited but notable. A few reviewers reported slow responses to call lights, suggesting that timely responsiveness may be an area for operational improvement. Noise from early-morning garbage collection was called out as disruptive in at least one instance, pointing to a specific scheduling or logistics issue that could affect resident sleep and comfort. The most significant adverse theme relates to the facility’s COVID-19 isolation practices: at least one resident experienced a detrimental impact on mental health and ultimately moved out of the assisted living setting because of isolation. This indicates that infection-control measures, while important, had considerable social and psychological consequences for some residents and may warrant review to balance safety with mental well-being.

In sum, the reviews paint Benedictine Living Community–Bismarck as a compassionate, well-run community with strong therapy and care programs, excellent food, and an inviting environment. The principal strengths are the staff (from leadership through front-line caregivers), effective therapy services, and the welcoming physical environment. The primary operational issues to address are responsiveness to call lights, noise from early-morning maintenance activities, and the need to mitigate the mental-health impacts of strict isolation protocols. Given the volume and consistency of positive comments, the overall recommendation from reviewers is highly favorable, with only a few targeted areas for improvement.

    About Benedictine Living Community-Bismarck

Benedictine Living Community-Bismarck sits in the city of Bismarck and serves Burleigh County, focusing on supporting residents' health, safety, and quality of life. The community offers a range of care, including assisted living, basic care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and memory care, all under the same roof, so residents have options as their needs change, which is helpful for many families. The campus includes one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments for independent and assisted living, plus 41 basic care beds, 56 assisted living beds, 72 nursing facility beds, and 24 transitional care beds, so there's a spot for many different needs.

Residents get personalized care plans-staff, including the Director of Nursing, Rhonda Krueger (for skilled nursing), and Rick Lanz (for basic and assisted living), work with families to make sure each person's preferences, health requirements, and daily routines are taken into account, which goes a long way toward making people comfortable. Skilled nursing services cover long-term illnesses, chronic health issues, and short-term rehabilitation after surgery or injury, with therapy rooms for physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and people can get outpatient therapy as needed. Folks who live here can keep some independence while getting support for tasks like medication, bathing, meal preparation, and housekeeping, which many appreciate as they get older.

Meals come in a restaurant-style setting or at the bistro, and staff offers help for those who need it, so everyone gets to enjoy good food without worry. Community spaces encourage socializing, and planned activities fill the days, making it easier for people to find friendship and purpose. There's a strong faith-based atmosphere because Benedictine is a Catholic, mission-directed health system, so residents have the option of attending daily Catholic Mass and other spiritual services, with 24/7 chaplain support if someone wants a listening ear.

The community puts a lot of stock in treating people with respect and warmth, with a culture that values teamwork between staff and residents-for some, the familiar faces and reliable care bring real peace of mind. Specialized services cover memory care, adult day programs, respite care, and spiritual therapy, so residents' needs get covered at different stages. Safety is priority, but they also make life comfortable with amenities like therapy rooms, inviting living spaces, and community rooms for gathering or quiet time.

Benedictine Living Community-Bismarck works with what they call the "Living Community" care approach, which covers all aspects of wellness and personal choice, helping people live as fully and independently as possible. The campus has earned a bronze award from the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living, which signals quality care. You'll find the Benedictine Experience here, which means a focus on compassion, hospitality, and the values that guide their mission to serve seniors. Overall, the facility offers basic care, assisted living, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and spiritual care all in a setting where residents' well-being and personal preferences matter.
