    Five-year resident praises compassionate care

I've lived here five years and am very happy - Tamika and the therapy team are outstanding and the staff are caring, skilled and fun. The facility is clean, well maintained and secure with a lovely courtyard, lots of engaging activities, strong dementia-focused care and responsive communication with families. I feel my loved one is well cared for and I highly recommend this warm, community-focused place.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewers present a mixed but informative picture of the facility. Positive themes center on dementia-specific programming and a caregiving culture described as compassionate and relationship-focused. Multiple accounts emphasize the staffโ€“resident bond, a calming physical environment (open hallways, warm finishes, and a well-kept lobby), accessible outdoor space, and an activity program that includes games, music, holidays and inclusive celebrations. On-site therapy services and a security system for monitored access are frequently noted strengths, as are practical conveniences such as laundry service, multiple dining areas, and flexible snack/drink policies.

Care quality is a prominent strength for many families: reviewers describe Alzheimerโ€™s-specialized approaches intended to reduce agitation, attentive nursing and caregiving staff, and clinicians or therapy teams who support mobility and engagement. Communication with families is often described as responsive, with staff and management who provide updates and accommodate preferences in some cases. The facilityโ€™s social and activity programming is consistently cited by advocates as contributing to residentsโ€™ quality of life when it is active and well-run.

At the same time, a pattern of operational inconsistencies emerges across the reviews. Staffing stability and training are uneven; several accounts point to turnover, workload pressure, and variability in staff skills or language proficiency, which can affect daily care and family communication. Cleanliness and sanitation are described differently by different families, creating a mixed picture of environmental standards that prospective families should evaluate directly. More serious clinical concerns are raised by some reviewers around infection-control practices, physician oversight, wound care outcomes, and the monitoring or use of behavior-targeting medications โ€” these describe system-level issues rather than single isolated events and warrant specific inquiry.

Facility maintenance and management show similar variability: many families note a well-maintained common environment and attractive design, while others report inconsistent room maintenance, furnishing quality, air-conditioning problems, and occasional security/locking issues in resident rooms. Management and social-work interactions are also described inconsistently, ranging from responsive and supportive to brusque in tone according to different accounts.

For prospective residents and families: the facility demonstrates clear strengths in dementia-focused programming, engaged staff, therapy services, and an environment designed for walking and socialization. However, the mixed reports on staffing stability, clinical oversight, cleanliness, medication management, and room-level maintenance suggest it is important to observe day-to-day operations during a visit. Recommended questions include staffing ratios and turnover, protocols for infection control and wound care, medication-review processes (especially for behavior-targeting drugs), how room repairs and HVAC issues are handled, and opportunities to observe activities and mealtimes. A careful, on-site observation and direct discussion with management about these operational areas will help clarify whether the facilityโ€™s strengths align with a given residentโ€™s needs.

    About Columbus Alzheimers Care Center

Columbus Alzheimers Care Center sits in Columbus, Ohio, and mainly serves people with Alzheimer's and other memory concerns, so the place pays careful attention to safety, routine, and comfort, and you'll notice right away that the entrance has a covered entryway and a brick facade, which gives a steady, welcoming feel. The building is a single story, which makes moving around a lot easier for the 99 residents who call it home. It's a for-profit Skilled Nursing Facility, owned by a Limited Liability Company, and accepts Medicare and Medicaid, as well as being part of Trinity Health Plan. The community focuses on compassion and experience, with English-speaking staff who know elder care and memory support, and who are on-site at all hours. Nurses cover the building 24 hours a day while following a 12-16 hour nursing schedule so there's help with bathing, dressing, transfers, supervision, and managing medication, plus a 24-hour call system if anything comes up. The Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center offers both private and semi-private rooms, each with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, cable TV, telephone, private bathrooms, kitchenettes, and furnished spaces, so everyone can keep some comforts of home. Residents get meals that are healthy and balanced, and the facility's staff takes care of cleaning and laundry too.

Special programs for memory care shape daily life at the center, with custom care plans and activities that boost cognitive abilities and keep hands and minds busy, such as arts, music, sensory activities, and celebrations geared for people experiencing memory loss, which makes days brighter and helps folks stay connected to what matters. A community calendar organizes regular events, with both community-sponsored and resident-run programs, and family involvement stays strong through support services and open communication, so relatives feel included and informed. The facility keeps things lively with birthday parties, holiday gatherings, and visits from community groups, so there's always something going on in the activities room, lounge, or movie theater, and there are places to relax outdoors in gardens, walking paths, or peaceful sitting areas with security features built in. Inside, you'll find amenities like a library, spa and wellness room, game room, fitness space, arts room, and access to scheduled transportation for medical appointments or errands. Wellness is part of the package, and residents can use salon services to help them feel their best.

Medical and social support go hand in hand at Columbus Alzheimers Care Center, where trained staff work with GuideStar Eldercare and Quality Moments Behavioral Health Services, so support is available for mental, physical, and emotional needs. Being close to Mount Carmel St. Ann's and Ohio Riverside Hospital helps with quick access to extra care when needed. Residents receive personalized attention, with routines helping them feel comfortable and calm, and staff keep a watchful eye while letting them enjoy as much independence as possible. Security and emergency alert systems help everyone stay safe, especially those with memory loss who benefit from stability and routine. The staff, from nurses to the folks who clean the halls and keep up maintenance, know the residents by name and care about their happiness, so people tend to feel valued here, and you get a true sense of community. The Columbus Alzheimers Care Center focuses on helping residents living with Alzheimer's thrive, both by providing expert care and by creating a warm, home-style environment where everyone belongs.
