    Beautiful facility but inconsistent care

I moved my mom into this brand-new, boutique senior living place - it's beautiful, bright, affordable, and the amenities and team are marvelous and mostly very friendly. My only concerns: one unfriendly nurse and the level of care hasn't always been adequate.

    About Oakwood Senior Living

Oakwood Senior Living is a community in Olde Town East, Columbus, at 1169 Bryden Rd., where people can find assisted living, independent living, and memory care with the Varietas® Memory Care Program for Alzheimer's and dementia, using Behavior-Based Ergonomics Therapy and 24/7 licensed nursing staff who help with all kinds of daily needs and personal service plans that the Wellness Director and her team keep adjusting as needed, so folks can have support for bathing, grooming, medication, meals, and enjoy restaurant-style dining where an executive chef prepares home-style meals, sometimes with residents' own recipes or suggestions, serving breakfast throughout the day. There are communal indoor and outdoor spaces where residents talk, share stories, and get to know one another, and the activity calendar usually includes social, religious, educational, and wellness programs, with an on-site gym, fitness classes, and spaces for entertainment-they've even got dedicated therapy for physical, occupational, and speech rehab right there with modern equipment. There's weekly housekeeping, laundry for linens and towels, off-street parking, and all utilities in assisted living, so people can focus on being comfortable and making connections. Oakwood has studios and one-bedroom hotel-like apartments, so everyone has choices for private rooms or suites, and laundry facilities are easy to reach on each floor. Folks with pets can bring them, and family-focused independent living units add options if a family wants something more self-sufficient. Staff, including nurses, personal care assistants, sales, dining, and maintenance people, are always around to help, and with scheduled transportation to medical appointments or group outings, people can get where they need to go, which helps with independence. The community supports short-term respite care, day programs for adults, and in-home or private-duty nursing for times when someone needs something extra, bringing care to their own home, and with safety handled by a mobile emergency response system and 24/7 staff. Meals are freshly made, and in the dining room, there's always chatter and a sense of comfort, plus people say the team is friendly and the building bright and easy to feel at home in. Oakwood's building is modern, well-maintained, and feels quiet and comfortable, and the whole place is medium in size, with over 100 beds for nursing or restorative care, so it can feel big enough to meet new people but not so large that it's hard to find your way. There are group activities, spiritual gatherings, and the chance for folks just to sit together, hold hands, or listen to each other talk about where they've come from, which helps keep everyone feeling connected and seen. The Traditions Management group runs things, and their focus is on personalized, patient-centered care. People who want to visit can take a tour and see for themselves, and there's always on-site building maintenance, cable, Wi-Fi, and more included. Oakwood is affordable compared to other boutique assisted living places and stands out for its bright environment, beautiful amenities, dedicated staff, and community spirit, even though, like any community, it might not fit every single care need someone could have, but for many in Columbus looking for assisted or independent living with attention to daily life, safety, and connection, Oakwood Senior Living is one to take a look at.
