    Excellent care, friendly staff, recommended

I stayed at Riverview for rehab and was very pleased - the staff were friendly, attentive, and knew me by name, with responsive management throughout my stay. The therapy team was excellent and got me stronger and ready for home; rooms were clean, comfortable, and felt safe, with good pain management and plenty of activities. I felt well cared for and would recommend Riverview and even return for future surgery.

    Summary of reviews

Riverview presents a highly mixed set of experiences: many reviewers describe excellent rehabilitation outcomes, strong therapy teams, and caring nursing staff, while others identify substantial operational inconsistencies that affected safety, hygiene, and communication. The facility demonstrates clear strengths in therapy and discharge planning — physical and occupational therapy are repeatedly praised for producing measurable functional gains and preparing residents for return home. Several caregivers, charge nurses, and managers are singled out for responsiveness and individualized attention, and families often note rapid problem resolution when leadership is engaged.

Clinical care quality shows meaningful variability. When staffed and supervised effectively, nursing teams deliver timely medication management, pain control, incision/wound care, and attentive daily care. However, reviewers also describe inconsistent medication administration, missed or delayed treatments, and breakdowns in handoff communication between shifts. There are recurring concerns about response times to call lights and clinical incidents, which manifests as delayed assistance during nights or busy periods. These patterns suggest that outcomes are sensitive to unit staffing and supervision at a given time.

Dining and nutrition experiences are inconsistent. Some families commend appealing meals and helpful dietary staff, while others describe highly processed options, high salt/sugar content, meals served in take-away style, and failures to accommodate dietary restrictions. Laundry and personal-property management are additional operational pain points: delayed returns, lost items, and mislabeling are cited frequently enough to indicate a systemic process weakness rather than isolated occurrences.

Facility condition and housekeeping are uneven. Many common areas and private suites are described as clean and comfortable, and the facility offers private rooms with bathrooms and convenient proximity to a hospital. At the same time, parts of the building are described as dated, with maintenance issues such as intermittent hot water, slow housekeeping turnarounds, and occasional sanitation concerns. Activity programming and resident engagement are generally strong: there are numerous events, outings, and family-oriented opportunities noted positively across accounts.

Management and administration receive mixed evaluations. Several named directors and unit managers are praised for clear communication, expedient problem-solving, and family-inclusive care. Conversely, there are repeated observations about inconsistent front-desk coverage, social-work responsiveness, and gaps in post-discharge billing or insurance coordination. A subset of accounts raises serious claims that have prompted calls for regulatory review; these are characterized here as allegations requiring formal clarification and follow-up rather than settled conclusions.

Overall pattern and guidance: prospective residents and families are likely to find excellent rehabilitation services and caring staff when the facility is fully staffed and leadership is actively engaged. At the same time, variability in staffing, hygiene/maintenance practices, meal-service consistency, and clinical communication have been associated with adverse experiences. Families considering Riverview should meet directly with therapy leaders and nursing managers to review staffing patterns for the specific unit and shifts of concern, confirm dietary and laundry policies, review incident-reporting procedures, and examine the facility’s most recent regulatory inspection history to assess whether operational gaps have been addressed. This balanced approach will help identify whether the facility’s strengths align with an individual resident’s clinical and daily-living needs.

    About Riverview - Columbus

Riverview - An Optalis Health & Rehabilitation Center sits on Olentangy River Road in Columbus, Ohio, across from Riverside Hospital, and it's part of a network through Optalis with other places in Michigan and Ohio such as Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation and Cranberry Park Assisted Living. Riverview's got 145 certified beds, sees about 128 residents daily, and covers a lot of ground with care, offering independent living, assisted living, memory care, non-medical home care, adult day services, long-term care, skilled nursing, Medicare-certified home health care, and hospice. The building includes 60 private one-bedroom assisted living suites with their own bathrooms, emergency call buttons, heating and air you can control, and spaces to live, sleep, and cook small meals, plus rehab rooms that come both furnished and semi-furnished, some with Wi-Fi and cable.

Nurses staff Riverview around the clock, though their turnover is quite high, at 61.9 percent, which is more than the state rate of 51 percent, and nurse staffing hours hover slightly under the state average at 3.61 for each resident per day. They have a state-of-the-art therapy gym and handle physical, occupational, and speech therapy for folks staying there and also for people who travel in for outpatient rehab. The team makes personalized care plans for each resident, and you see the staff handling daily needs like bathing, dressing, and managing medicines for people in assisted living. Assisted living and respite care are both available for shorter stays, sometimes just a few days or weeks, and rooms come furnished, some with private or half baths. You get dining menus with room service, and the suites have basic cable and Wi-Fi.

Riverview is a preferred provider for veterans and accepts Medicaid Waivers for assisted living. They run programs to support memory care, rehab, skilled nursing, and long-term living, all with teams that aim for professional and compassionate service. They help manage medication, provide ongoing education for nurses, track outcomes, and set custom rehabilitation plans for each person. There's a focus on keeping care compliant, managing risk, and preparing for state surveys, and they're linked in with other specialized rehab centers through Optalis. Though Riverview's had Medicaid and Medicare inspections, the reports included some issues, including complaints about infection control and resident rights, with one infection-related violation and a severity level D deficiency for not always honoring dignity and communication rights for residents, so that's worth noting for those who want to know about quality and state visits, because some inspections happened later than they should've.

Riverview's got partnerships with skilled nursing facilities and outpatient therapy centers spread across Michigan and Ohio, and they do what they can to create a comfortable setting where experienced staff aim to help residents reach their health and wellness goals. There's 24-hour access to care, focus on hospitality, and access to a mix of medical treatment and comfort, all handled by the wider Optalis group, which has run management through Charles Dunn, Rajan Patel, and Hemant Shah since June 2022. So, Riverview offers quite a broad range of services, including end-of-life care, and it keeps connections with other facilities in the Optalis system, with amenities and plans tailored to what residents and rehab guests need each day.
