    Caring staff and excellent therapy

I was very satisfied with my stay. Ruth and the rest of the staff were genuinely caring and went above and beyond-compassionate nurses and STNAs, approachable administration, and excellent therapy/rehab made my loved one feel like family. The facility was clean with large rooms, engaging activities and outings, organized care plans with nurse practitioner oversight, and helpful admissions (Lisa); I'm grateful and would happily recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Hanover Healthcare Center elicits sharply mixed impressions. Positive comments highlight a segment of staff who provide compassionate, family-oriented caregiving and individualized attention, supported by nurse practitioner oversight and organized care plans. The facility’s therapy program — including daily physical and occupational therapy — is frequently cited as robust, and several accounts describe good short-term rehabilitation outcomes. Residents and families also praise active life-enrichment programming, regular off-site outings, and staff efforts to provide personal items and extra support. Where administration is engaged, reviewers describe constructive communication and responsiveness.

At the same time, a recurring pattern of operational weaknesses appears across reviews. Chronic understaffing and high turnover are described as primary drivers of quality problems: delays in assistance and transfers, long waits for toileting or bathing support, and inconsistent medication timing. Related clinical concerns include gaps in wound monitoring and documentation, variable infection- and fluid-balance management practices, and weaknesses in transfer- and fall-prevention procedures. A number of reviewers raised sanitation and odor concerns in particular areas and noted maintenance or facility-condition shortcomings that affect resident comfort.

Dining and activity experiences are uneven. Some families describe restaurant-quality meals and an active calendar of activities and outings; others report inconsistent meal quality and limited engagement when staffing is constrained. Large rooms and certain life-enrichment offerings are positives, but inconsistent staffing can reduce the frequency and quality of scheduled programming.

Communication and safety processes are additional areas of concern. Several reviewers described inconsistent family communication and difficulty obtaining timely updates; others reported security issues related to personal belongings and delays in the facility’s clinical-incident response. A limited number of reviews referenced regulatory attention, including a state investigation and concerns following a resident’s death, and at least one review described a serious safety allegation. These accounts, while not uniform, indicate areas where clinical oversight and incident-response protocols may need strengthening.

In sum, Hanover presents a mixture of notable strengths in therapy, dedicated caregivers, and engaged activity programming alongside persistent operational challenges tied largely to staffing, clinical documentation, facility upkeep, and communication. Prospective residents and families should weigh the importance of strong therapy and compassionate individuals against the potential for inconsistent day-to-day care delivery; visiting the unit(s) of interest, asking about current staffing levels and recent regulatory outcomes, and speaking directly with therapy and nursing leadership are advised steps before placement.

    About Hanover Healthcare Center

Hanover Healthcare Center, located at 435 Avis Ave NW in Massillon, Ohio, has served area seniors since 1994 and is managed by Mr. Jason French, who acts as Executive Director. This facility is part of CommuniCare, a large family-owned company focused on post-acute care, and offers skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and long-term care services. The center also runs programs in memory care, occupational therapy, hospice, palliative care, and wound care, so folks with many different medical needs can get help. They offer both in-home and onsite care, including extra services like kidney dialysis, tracheostomy support, and regular therapy visits for physical, speech, and occupational therapy, which is helpful for people who need those things after an injury or surgery or for long-term health issues.

Staff can help with everyday tasks like bathing, grooming, meals, toileting, getting in and out of bed, walking, and light housekeeping. They also handle laundry and offer wheelchair and transferring assistance, which some families find important. Hanover has a strong process for hiring and screening employees that includes background and drug checks, driving record checks, reference calls, immunizations, and residency confirmation, so the staff can be trusted around residents. They've got people who speak English and some who speak other languages too.

Hanover is wheelchair accessible, there's air conditioning, proper hospital equipment and furniture, clean restrooms, and parking outside for visitors. For activities, residents can join in on games like bingo and enjoy live entertainment, and there are special programs just for veterans. They encourage residents' emotional and physical well-being and keep an open line with families to make sure their care lines up with everyone's expectations. They schedule assessments to talk about care needs and personalize their approach for each resident or client. Every month, the center reviews its provider and service info to make sure it's up to date, and they make sure everyone's licenses and certifications are current. They also work with doctors to keep everybody's health on track.

Hanover Healthcare Center is known for its focus on good care and building relationships with families. While the staff aims for a supportive and calming setting, currently they aren't taking new patients and you'll need to call for info about future openings. They make a point of offering as much quality of life as possible, whether someone needs regular medical care, memory support, or a safe place for rehabilitation.
