    Compassionate attentive memory care experience

I placed my loved one here and felt very well supported - staff were consistently polite, attentive and compassionate, from admissions and nursing to social services and the therapy team. The memory care and hospice teams helped our family through end-of-life with dignity, Laurie's deep cleaning and clear communication stood out, and the clean, beautifully landscaped campus with lake, courtyard and on-site salon/activities made visits pleasant. Overall I'm very satisfied with the care and would recommend the Hilltop location.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews for Sprenger Health Care Rose Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation are highly polarized: many families describe a well-appointed, scenic facility with strong therapy services and compassionate caregivers, while others report systemic operational problems that affected resident experience and safety.

Care and clinical oversight: Positive accounts highlight effective physical and occupational therapy programs, successful short-term rehabilitation outcomes, and attentive hospice and end-of-life support. At the same time, reviewers describe recurring clinical concerns including inconsistent medication administration, problems with wound and catheter management, and infection-related complications. These issues suggest gaps in clinical oversight and care-continuity processes that warrant careful review by prospective families.

Staff and responsiveness: Numerous reviewers praise individual nurses, therapists, and aides for compassion, skill, and clear communication. However, a contrasting pattern describes understaffing, high turnover, and variable staff responsiveness — including delays in assistance for personal care and long wait times for call-light response. Family communication and coordination of care are similarly inconsistent: some families report proactive outreach and helpful discharge planning, while others encountered disorganization and poor follow-through.

Dining and activities: The facility offers on-site dining with the ability to accommodate special diets and a full activities program with outings, courtyard amenities, and on-site services such as a salon. Positive reports cite varied, healthy meals and an engaging activity calendar. Conversely, other accounts describe uneven meal quality, cold or small portions, and occasional service lapses that reduce the dining experience.

Facilities and security: The campus, landscaping, courtyard features, and room configurations receive frequent praise; many families note a pleasant, home-like environment with private rooms and outdoor spaces. Counterbalancing this, there are concerns about building security, wayfinding, and access control, as well as inconsistent housekeeping and sanitation practices in some areas. Reviewers also raised serious allegations involving missing personal items and financial/property-management issues; those claims, along with isolated accounts of record-handling problems, indicate areas for administrative clarification.

Management and organizational patterns: Several comments point to changes after ownership transition, including perceived emphasis on cost control, staffing challenges, and procedural rigidity. Positive feedback exists for admissions, therapy coordination, and some leadership individuals, but organizational instability and uneven enforcement of policies emerge as recurring themes.

Overall impression and guidance: The facility demonstrates clear strengths in therapy, campus amenities, and many individual staff members who provide compassionate care. At the same time, persistent operational weaknesses — especially around staffing consistency, medication and wound/catheter oversight, property controls, and sanitation in certain units — create risk variability between resident experiences. Prospective residents and families should prioritize an in-person tour, speak directly with unit-level clinical leadership about medication, infection-prevention, and security protocols, request recent inspection and staffing records, and ask current families about day-to-day responsiveness before making a placement decision.

About Sprenger Health Care Rose Lane

Sprenger Health Care Rose Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation sits on a big campus in Stark County and has been around for over forty years, providing care for seniors and people needing extra help after surgeries or illnesses, and you know, it's the only VA contracted facility in the county, so veterans come here too, and they seem to take that seriously. The facility's got 165 beds, offering both private and semiprivate rooms with phones and free cable, and the community spaces like a library or a community room let residents connect or have a quiet spot if they wish. They've made sure there's Wi-Fi all over the campus and there's even a gift shop.

There's a strong focus on health here-doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, hospice aides, social workers, and volunteers are on staff, and care is available twenty-four hours a day for those who need it, whether it's skilled nursing, long-term care, respite care, or even post-operative recovery. They'll help with medication, IVs, tracheotomy care, feeding tubes, oxygen, and support for Alzheimer's or dementia, including a secured Memory Care Unit and programs partnered with the Alzheimer's Association. Nutrition guidance and daily living help come standard, and they make sure people get personal support, like spiritual care and rides to medical appointments, scheduled by a transportation coordinator.

Rehabilitation is a big deal at Rose Lane, and the oversized therapy gym is packed with state-of-the-art equipment-there's Hoyer Lift, Sara Stedy, BIODEX, Jintronix, VitalStim, a car transfer simulator called TRAN-SIT, and more, and they use all this for physical, occupational, and speech therapies, as well as gait training. They do a good job making these therapies part of everyday life and have outpatient therapy options too. Activities and events run daily, and the Life Enrichment Director organizes art classes, bingo, card games, outings, exercises, movies, music, and social events, and they even try things like aroma therapy, cooking therapy, pet visits, music and memory, and art therapy. The dining side's covered, too-chef-prepared meals, dining rooms and multiple eateries, private dining spots, plus snacks without any extra charge, so folks don't go hungry.

For other services, they bring in dentists, eye doctors, podiatrists, do X-rays, and offer psychological and psychiatric help right there on site. Residents can go for a swim, play billiards, try the putting green, relax at the pub, or browse the library, especially if they move into the independent living or Avenue Assisted Living areas, and with the nonprofit setup, there's a sense of long-term community. Care plans are always personalized, which means staff take the time to fit care to each person's needs, and there's a strong push for quality of life and independence, but with a gentle and compassionate approach. If someone wants a closer look, the staff will give personalized tours around the community so folks can see things for themselves before they decide.
