    Mother happier with personalized care

I placed my mother in this small, non-chain community and she's much happier - the staff truly care, respond quickly, and made the transition seamless. We get personalized text/photo updates, families often dine together in a sunny, home-like dining room, and the homemade, customizable meals are delicious. The facility is clean, not crowded, with engaging activities, a courtyard and fireplace, and a convenient location near the hospital and shopping; I'm very pleased with the attentive, familiar care.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The facility presents as a small, home-like assisted living community with a clean, well-kept appearance and a layout that families find easy to monitor. Reviewers emphasize a pleasant atmosphere, outdoor spaces (courtyard and gardens), comfortable common areas including a fireplace, and a convenient location near medical services and retail. Many families described a successful transition for their loved ones and noted improved resident mood and engagement after moving in.

Care quality and staff: Care is frequently described as attentive and personalized. Observations point to close familiar relationships between staff and residents, a favorable staff-to-resident ratio, and staff who are willing to answer questions and provide individualized attention. Communication practices such as text- and photo-updates to families are highlighted as a strength, as is responsiveness around medical concerns. At the same time, there are operational concerns: periodic understaffing was cited as affecting service delivery, and there are isolated but notable concerns about staff conduct and the tone of communication. Prospective families should assess current staffing patterns and ask about expectations for staff behavior and complaint resolution during a tour.

Dining and activities: Dining is a clear positive for many families: meals are described as home-made, appealing, and adaptable to individual dietary needs. The facility supports family dining in a large, open dining area, which many families found beneficial. Activities are described as engaging and supported by a purpose-built activity room, contributing to an overall happy atmosphere. The combination of indoor communal spaces and outdoor gardens offers varied opportunities for socialization and recreation.

Facilities and management: Physical amenities are functional and homelike rather than upscale. Rooms are generally compact and positioned for easy monitoring, which some families view as an advantage for supervision. Housekeeping and laundry services are areas of operational variability; there are reports of inconsistent performance in these services that should be clarified before placement. Management is viewed positively in several accounts — administrators are described as pleasant — however, there are also comments about limited upfront pricing transparency and occasional shortcomings in customer-service responsiveness.

Notable patterns and guidance: This community appears to suit families seeking a smaller, community-oriented environment with close staff–resident relationships and home-style services. The primary trade-offs are modest physical finishes and some variability in support services (notably housekeeping and laundry) and occasional staffing shortfalls. When evaluating the community in person, prospective residents and families should (1) confirm current staffing levels and shift coverage, (2) ask for written explanations of laundry/housekeeping schedules and escalation processes, (3) request a clear, itemized pricing schedule, and (4) discuss expectations for staff conduct and family communication to ensure alignment with their needs.

    About Cedar Living

Cedar Living in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, offers several levels of senior care, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and nursing home services, and you'll find home care and respite care options too, so people have flexibility depending on what they need or how those needs change over time, and they've got a team of staff and aides who help with things like bathing, dressing, medication, and transfers, and you'll see 24-hour supervision along with coordinated care from outside health providers. The place is connected with Cedar Living at Mayfield Heights and people talk about a community that's safe, happy, and friendly, where staff know residents well and try to make sure folks feel comfortable and supported day and night, and they say the staff are emotionally attached to residents and go out of their way to help.

Rooms come furnished, and some might have kitchenettes or private bedrooms, while all rooms have things like emergency alert systems, Wi-Fi, and cable, but if you want room types and more details, you'd need to check directly, since they offer amenities and features they don't always describe in every listing, and sometimes there are unique names for programs not found elsewhere. They've made things easy for families, with move-in help, daily housekeeping and linen service, and all-day dining that includes special diets, so if you or your loved one needs food that's allergy-sensitive or diabetic-friendly, the kitchen handles it.

Amenities aim to make life easy and pleasant with dining rooms, a coffee shop, walking paths, gardens, and guest parking, and they allow pets, so people don't have to leave their companions behind, and you'll see extras like a computer room, movie nights, art, music, crafts, educational programs, and outings, along with literary activities and organized group exercise, so there's usually something going on. Residents also get transportation for errands or shopping, and the outside is set up with gardens to enjoy some fresh air. There's a safety focus, with a gated facility and emergency alert systems, plus trained staff for care and a part-time nurse, and team members get special training, especially those helping with memory care, so they can give good, consistent support that's based on what's been shown to help.

Hospice care is available, as well as adult day services and Medicare-certified home health care for those who need more, and you'll find physical therapy, rehabilitation, medication reminders, and personal care assistants-plus companion care, all covered in what they offer, whether someone needs a short break from home, long-term help, or specialized attention for memory impairments like Alzheimer's. The atmosphere feels intimate and supportive, and Cedar Living tries to keep things structured and safe while still focusing on each person's well-being and day-to-day happiness, so families know their loved ones have what they need without fuss. They don't list every last detail or amenity, but they're set up to handle a wide range of needs with a focus on making life manageable and dignified for older adults, and there are always contact options if anyone needs to ask about something specific.
