    Clean well-maintained facility compassionate staff

I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and well-maintained Pataskala Oaks is and how friendly, helpful and compassionate the staff are. Nurses, aides and therapists were attentive and knowledgeable, the kitchen always provided plenty of food, and caregivers often went out of their way to make my dad comfortable. My family felt supported in a warm, family-like atmosphere and I would happily recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Pataskala Oaks Care Center elicits strongly mixed impressions. Many families and staff describe warm, compassionate caregiving: nurses, aides, and therapists are frequently characterized as attentive, knowledgeable, and willing to go beyond routine duties to meet resident needs. The facility also receives consistent praise for a clean, well-maintained interior, a welcoming, family-like culture, active daily programming, and an engaged kitchen and dining team that provides ample portions. Several families reported positive short-term rehabilitation progress under the facilityโ€™s PT/OT staff.

At the same time, a range of operational weaknesses appears across accounts. Responsiveness to call bells and timely bedside attention is inconsistent; some families describe prompt responses while others describe delays. Clinical coverage shows variability โ€” therapists may be contract-based rather than continuously on site, and reviewers flagged limited availability of certain specialists and therapy options (notably cardiovascular-conditioning offerings). The facility layout and limited private-room inventory were also noted as constraints for residents needing more intensive skilled care or privacy.

Housekeeping, laundry, and infection-prevention practices represent another area of divergence. Although many describe rooms and common areas as clean, others describe intermittent sanitation and odor concerns in public spaces, floor-cleaning lapses, laundry mix-ups, and policy gaps around staff working while ill. These operational lapses tie into family-reported deficiencies in communication: caregivers and family members described uneven frequency and quality of health updates, delays in administrative responses, and occasional restrictions on resident contact or phone access that complicated family involvement.

Dining receives mixed assessments: the kitchen staff is often seen as friendly and generous, but meal and beverage quality and taste are inconsistent and portion sizes may not suit every resident. Rehabilitation outcomes vary by individual; some residents benefit from effective therapy programs, while others perceive limited progression or insufficient therapy intensity.

A few reviews raise serious concerns about resident safety management and staff conduct, including allegations of staff theft and questions about management of high-risk individuals within the facility. These are significant issues that families and prospective residents should discuss directly with leadership and verify through facility policies and regulatory records.

Overall, Pataskala Oaks presents clear strengths in staff engagement, warmth, and facility upkeep that many find reassuring. However, variability in responsiveness, clinical coverage, housekeeping consistency, communication, and certain safety and administrative practices suggests prospective residents and families should ask targeted questions during tours: staffing levels and on-site specialty coverage, call-bell response times, infection-control and sick-staff policies, laundry and valuables procedures, private-room availability, and the facilityโ€™s approach to family communication and management of high-risk residents. Visiting during different times of day and requesting recent inspection or compliance records will help prospective families evaluate how well the facilityโ€™s operational practices match its positive caregiving reputation.

    About Pataskala Oaks Care Center

Pataskala Oaks Care Center sits on East Broad Street in Pataskala, Ohio, and has served its community since 1990 by offering skilled nursing care, assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation, and hospice services, and what's nice is they focus on both physical and emotional needs for seniors by having help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, housekeeping, meals, and laundry, so folks who need a bit of extra help or more medical supervision get looked after around the clock by nurses, therapists, and specialized staff like a Therapy Manager, Respiratory Nurse Manager, Dietary Manager, and a Life Enrichment Coordinator. The center offers physical, occupational, and speech therapies, along with special services like IV therapy, feeding tubes, wound care, grocery help, and pharmacy and laboratory access, which can make a big difference for people going through rehab or managing medical issues, and they even provide outpatient rehab and independent living support. Pataskala Oaks is operated as a corporation called Nursing Care Management of America, Inc., and is run by President Mr. James Farley and an Administrator named Ms. Robin Helzerman, and it's recognized for meeting industry standards by earning a BBB Accreditation with an A+ rating from the Central Ohio branch, so families have some assurance about how things are managed there. The place has a Person Centered Care Program and follows a culture change movement that tries to treat everyone with dignity by letting residents make choices about their routines and activities, and many people have found comfort in the friendly atmosphere, getting to join in religious events, hobbies, and social gatherings to create a sense of home, with staff and family testimonials often mentioning the kindness shown by caregivers. The care center has a dedicated management team and a range of support departments, like Medical Records and Maintenance, and they aim to provide a stable and welcoming space where residents can build connections and have some say in their daily lives. Amenities include meal programs, laundry and housekeeping, community activities, and a focus on keeping people engaged socially and emotionally, and while there's no list of luxury features or very unique program names, people find that there's room for both quiet time and a full schedule of events for anyone who wants to take part. The facility is licensed and works with Medicare resources, and has local plans available for Ohio, along with resources and contacts for brokers and providers. Information about some specifics is still pending, but what stands out most is that the home aims to support resident choice, respect, and well-being over time.
