    Caring staff and excellent community

I moved my mom in and we've been very happy overall. The nurses, therapy team and aides are genuinely caring, attentive and professional-her personalized physical therapy made a big difference. The apartment is clean, comfortable and easy to decorate; move-in was smooth with helpful Medicaid assistance and clear communication. The community is lively with family events, outings and holiday parties, the food is good, safety and cleanliness are excellent, and I would definitely recommend this facility.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewers express a polarized view of Ohio Valley Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center: many families and residents praise the facility's appearance, cleanliness, activities program, and several individual caregivers, while others describe substantive care and operational concerns. Strengths most frequently noted are an attractive, well-kept building and apartments, a social calendar with outings and holiday programming, personalized therapy for some residents, and staff members who are compassionate, professional, and communicative in multiple instances.

Care-quality accounts are mixed. Positive comments describe attentive, informed staff and effective short-term rehabilitation, but other accounts identify systemic issues such as inconsistent medication oversight, delays in attending to call bells and assistance requests, recurrent fall incidents, and variability in wound and pressure-injury management. Therapy services appear effective when delivered, yet families report inconsistent delivery or communication about therapy schedules—sometimes exacerbated by lockdowns or operational disruptions. There are also recurring concerns about catheter and incontinence-care processes and about personal-hygiene assistance, including bathing and oral-care continuity.

Staffing and workplace culture are an important dividing line in the reviews. Many families highlight individual nurses, aides, and therapists as compassionate and capable; at the same time, multiple comments point to staffing shortages, high turnover, visible staff frustration, and payroll/compensation issues that appear to affect morale. These workforce pressures are described as contributing to delays in care, inconsistent task completion, and occasional lapses in safety practices.

Dining and daily life receive generally favorable remarks: several reviewers say residents enjoy the food and the facility supports decorating, family visits, and community involvement. The facility runs family-oriented events and has outreach such as outings to shops and sports events. However, there are isolated reports of dining-service inconsistencies and occasional questionable meal-item choices that suggest variability in meal service standards.

Facility and safety observations are similarly mixed. The building and grounds are frequently described as attractive and clean, and many visitors find the environment safe and welcoming. Conversely, reviewers also identify equipment-maintenance gaps and safety-equipment deficiencies (for example, nonworking support mattresses or missing buzzers) that could affect resident comfort and fall prevention. Visitor-entry and access-control processes have been flagged as problematic by some families.

Management and administrative practices draw both praise and concern. Several families report smooth admissions, helpful Medicaid assistance, clear communication, and responsiveness from administration. Opposing accounts describe care limitations linked to billing or payment policies, concerns about payroll practices, and requests for regulatory attention. These operational inconsistencies contribute to the polarized impressions and indicate areas where clarifying policies and improving transparency could reduce family uncertainty.

Taken together, the pattern across reviews suggests that Ohio Valley Manor offers a number of genuine strengths—clean, attractive facilities; an active community life; and dedicated staff members—but also has recurring operational weaknesses that can materially affect resident safety and clinical outcomes. Prospective residents and families would benefit from targeted questions when evaluating the facility: ask about current staffing ratios by shift, medication-management and prescribing oversight procedures, fall-prevention and transfer protocols, wound- and catheter-care processes, equipment-maintenance schedules, billing and admission policies, and how the facility communicates care changes to families. An in-person visit that includes a review of care areas, recent quality metrics, and direct discussion with nursing leadership will help clarify whether the facility's strengths align with a prospective resident's needs.
