Brookdale Salem sits in Salem and offers different living options like assisted living, independent living, memory care, skilled nursing, and care at home, so folks can get more help as their needs change, and the same goes for long-term care and support for disability. The community has staff on site every hour of every day, always ready to help with emergencies or daily tasks, whether that's medication, bathing, dressing, or moving around, and there are emergency pull cords and a 24-hour security system with keypad entry to keep everyone safe. People live in private apartments, some with suites, bedrooms, sitting areas, walk-in closets, and storage, and every place has a private bathroom-most with walk-in showers and doors wide enough for wheelchairs-plus cable or satellite TV and high-speed internet. The landscaped grounds, winding walkway, courtyards, and a sunroom or screened porch give folks a way to enjoy the outdoors, and there's a residents' lounge, library, and dining spaces inside where everyone can gather, eat meals set by a registered dietician three times a day-with special diet options-or visit with friends or family in the community areas. The building allows pets, keeps everything accessible for wheelchairs, and offers onsite parking and air conditioning. Wellness and exercise programs take place in the fitness room, which has equipment like a recumbent bike and padded table, while the therapy and pharmacy services, money management, transportation to appointments or shopping, and social events aim to make life easier. Housekeeping, linen service, and laundry are done for the residents, letting people focus on more enjoyable activities, and there's always something to do with social and recreational options both on and offsite. The facility has a controlled access building and tries to match support to what each person wants and needs, whether that's independence, extra help, or special memory care, and says its services are built around compassion, respect, and integrity. The place has a simple, home-like look and tries to be friendly for everyone, no matter their stage of life, and has a 4.0 rating based on one review. Brookdale Salem also belongs to Brookdale Senior Living and has information online for folks who want more detail.

Clean, welcoming facility with caveats
I toured Brookdale Salem and came away impressed by the clean, homey community - spacious, well-furnished rooms, a central courtyard/circular halls, pet-friendly patios, restaurant-style dining with many choices, and lots of activities. The staff, nurses and directors were warm, professional and attentive; communication was prompt and residents seemed safe and happy. My concerns: pushy sales pressure, limited parking, short-staffing (housekeeping is often done by aides), and troubling pricing/Medicaid delays and unexpected cost increases. If you can handle the cost and distance, it's worth visiting and comparing - read the contract carefully.

About Brookdale Salem
About Brookdale
Brookdale Salem is managed by Brookdale.
Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.
The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.
Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.
The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.
Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
