    Remodeled peaceful RN-owned family-like care

I placed my mom in this remodeled, peaceful home run by RN owners and immediately felt relief - the low caregiver-to-resident ratio, attentive and loving staff, and compassionate leadership provide highly personalized, family-like care with excellent end-of-life support. Their improved communication, resident engagement, and genuine warmth raised her quality of life beyond my expectations; I'm comfortable recommending this facility.

    Summary of reviews

The Mitchell Homes is consistently described as a small, home-like assisted living environment with a strong emphasis on individualized, compassionate caregiving. Reviews highlight attentive staff, a low caregiver-to-resident ratio, and RN ownership or clinical involvement from leadership — factors that together support highly personalized care plans and continuity for residents. Families emphasize trust and relief in the caregiving team, with particular appreciation for end-of-life support and what they characterize as improved communication and engagement with residents.

Staffing and culture are recurring strengths. Caregivers are described as warm, loving, and attentive, contributing to a family-like atmosphere and higher-than-expected quality of life for residents. Management and leadership are framed as compassionate and engaged; the facility’s remodeled, residential interior and peaceful setting reinforce the home-style environment reviewers praise. Several summaries note that housekeeping and the overall environment feel well-maintained and calming rather than institutional.

Information about dining and the activity program is positive but high-level: reviewers indicate good resident engagement and personalized attention, but they provide limited specifics on menu variety, special-diet accommodations, or the full schedule of activities. The community appears to focus on individualized engagement rather than large-scale programming, which can be an advantage for residents who prefer small-group or one-to-one interactions.

Operational patterns to verify in a tour or conversation include clinical capacity and staffing contingency plans. Because Mitchell Homes is portrayed as a smaller, remodeled home with RN owners, it may not maintain the same on-site clinical services or specialist availability as larger assisted-living communities; families should clarify how higher-acuity needs are managed and what after-hours clinical coverage looks like. Similarly, low staffing ratios are a positive for individualized attention but can mean less redundancy during vacations or unexpected absences.

Overall, reviewers convey strong satisfaction with the facility’s caregiving, leadership, and home-like environment. Prospective residents and families should confirm specifics about dining options and dietary accommodations, the breadth and frequency of activities and outings, and clinical escalation pathways to ensure the community’s operational model fits evolving care needs.

    About The Mitchell Homes

The Mitchell House of Westerville offers different types of care, so people who need more help and people who can live more on their own can both find support here, and they've got assisted living, nursing home care, and dedicated sections for memory care where the doors stay secure for safety, especially for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, and the building itself stays locked to help prevent wandering, and they even use bracelets with alarms in case someone tries to leave. The nursing staff works all day and night, and there's always someone awake to keep an eye on everyone, and both male and female caregivers help with things like getting dressed, eating, taking medicine, using the bathroom, and bathing, and folks who need a lot of medical attention or have more complicated needs, like diabetic care with blood sugar checks and insulin shots, can stay on the property, too. One-bedroom memory care units come with their own bathrooms, air conditioning, cable or satellite TV, and free Wi-Fi, while housekeeping, laundry, dry cleaning, and meal service are all a part of daily life, and there are fresh meals from an Anytime Dining system whenever residents want to eat, plus gardening areas, walking paths, and a place to sit outside on nice days. The place welcomes visiting families and even lets people bring in their pets for visits, and pups or cats are part of some of the activities, and devotional services happen both in the building and offsite for those who want them, and a library, a game room, and areas to gather inside and out help everyone stay social and busy. The Mitchell House puts on programs for wellness, fitness, and fun, like art classes, movie nights, BBQs, gardening clubs, music, theater, stretching, and special memory programs, and trained staff run activities for anyone who tends to get agitated or has trouble with memory or behavior. People who need lifts to get out of bed or have trouble moving enough to use walkers or wheelchairs are supported, and physical, occupational, and speech therapists come in to help, as do doctors, podiatrists, and nurses when needed. The community covers different types of stays, so folks can live here for a while or just come for respite care, and as needs change they can stay on thanks to an aging-in-place approach and a good range of medical help, up to hospice care. The building is near bus lines for easy trips to shops, parks, restaurants, and healthcare offices. Private rooms cost about $6,000 a month, which covers personal care, monitoring, meals, and extra services like grocery shopping and transportation for appointments. There are reminders and safety systems set up throughout the property. Staff and residents tend to get to know each other well in this setting, so it's got a close-knit feel, and the Mitchell House focuses on making sure everyone, including those with disabilities or higher needs, stays comfortable, safe, and as independent as possible.
