    Longtime resident praises caring staff

I've been a long-term resident and I'm very pleased with the loving, professional, and friendly staff-Amy has been especially helpful setting up aftercare-along with excellent food, physical therapy, a library, an outdoor smoking area, and strict COVID procedures. The team makes me feel like family and I gladly recommend this facility.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Sapphire at Myrtle Point describe a mixed picture with distinct strengths in resident engagement and measurable operational weaknesses. Many accounts highlight positive interpersonal connections: staff and residents often form warm relationships, and programming such as social visits, garden-club activities, library access, and one-on-one moments are cited as meaningful quality-of-life contributors. Dining and therapy services are also frequently praised — reviewers note good meals and available physical therapy as reliable aspects of daily care.

At the care-delivery level, there is a consistent tension between reports of compassionate, attentive staff and accounts of inconsistent responsiveness. Several reviewers described staff members who are highly professional and make residents feel like family, and specific staff were named for helpful aftercare planning. However, other comments point to slow call-response times, insufficient staffing coverage, and delays in attending to toileting and bathing needs. Medication handling and clinical appointment coordination were also identified as areas needing improvement.

Facility and environment concerns focus on maintenance and cleanliness. The building is described as older with worn finishes, dated furnishings, and rooms in need of updating; reviewers noted sanitation concerns and reliability issues such as hot-water outages that affected showering. Activity- and outdoor-space offerings (including a smoking area and garden-club involvement) are positive counterpoints, but the physical plant appears to require ongoing upkeep.

Administrative and management issues emerged as a recurrent theme. Families raised questions about billing transparency, paperwork practices, and contract clarity, with at least one significant billing dispute cited. There are also allegations regarding loss or disposal of personal belongings and inconsistent communication around visitation — including instances where families or visitors were told they were not welcome without clear explanation. Infection-control procedures were described as strict, which some families appreciated, but communication around policy application and visitation flexibility was a source of frustration.

Overall, Sapphire at Myrtle Point shows strengths in social programming, therapeutic services, and in the dedication of individual staff members. Prospective residents and families should weigh those positives against operational weaknesses: variable staffing and responsiveness, maintenance and cleanliness deficits, and administrative/billing transparency concerns. A focused review of medication procedures, staffing levels, property-management practices, and a walk-through of current room conditions and plumbing/infrastructure reliability would be prudent steps for families evaluating placement.

    About Sapphire at Myrtle Point

Sapphire at Myrtle Point is a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility with 35 certified beds, usually caring for around 22 residents each day, and it's affiliated with Sapphire Health Services. This place has a range of care options like skilled nursing, post-hospital recovery, rehabilitation, memory care, hospice services, assisted living, and even home care for those who prefer help at home, and there are specialty services for different needs, all handled by licensed nurses, therapists, and physicians working as a team with 6.11 nurse hours per resident per day, which is above the state's average for nurse staffing. The staff here helps people get better after injuries, surgeries, or strokes, and works with folks who need support moving from hospital to home or may need a longer stay, keeping the goal of helping each resident regain strength and independence in a comfortable setting that tries to feel like home. Residents have support through daily tasks, medication management, IV therapy, nutrition oversight, and ongoing check-ins by doctors, and services include laundry, housekeeping, three meals a day, and access to organized activities, social gatherings, and entertainment to keep up spirits and meet social, recreational, and spiritual needs in what many call a warm family atmosphere. The facility says its approach, called "skilled living," centers on residents' health, respect, and empowerment, with a mission to support both short-term healing and long-term living so people can move forward with dignity, and it tries to treat everyone-residents, staff, and visitors-with thoughtfulness and respect throughout their time here.

This facility has faced significant challenges, as state inspections since 2024 and before have reported a total of 72 deficiencies, and the November 8, 2024, standard inspection alone found 21 deficiencies, some related to infection control and the spread of infections-there have been four infection-related deficiencies in total. Other long-standing issues include failure to accurately report staffing data electronically to CMS and problems in food and nutrition services, such as not always employing qualified dieticians. Sapphire at Myrtle Point is a candidate for the Special Focus Facility program because of repeated quality concerns, though it's not formally flagged, meaning its performance is being watched closely. Amenities, a family portal, payment options, and tours are available for those who want to learn more, and, despite the challenges, staff continue to focus on meeting daily needs with care and offering support to residents and their families.
