    Cozy family-like facility, compassionate staff

I'm very satisfied with this cozy, family-like facility - the staff are attentive, compassionate, and regularly follow up. The rehab team helped my loved one regain strength, meals and cleanliness are well managed, and Maggie and the administration went above and beyond. Residents are treated with respect and dignity; I would place a family member here and recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews for Kadima at Luzerne present a highly polarized picture. Many families and some clinical commenters describe compassionate, hands-on nursing and therapy that produced measurable rehabilitation gains; these accounts highlight attentive bedside care, effective physical/occupational therapy, cook-level oversight of meals, and a small, family-oriented atmosphere. Those positive comments emphasize personal attention, proactive nurse follow-up, and warm staff–resident interactions that some families characterized as above-and-beyond.

At the same time, contrasting reviews raise substantive operational concerns. Cleanliness and sanitation practices were described as inconsistent, and several reviewers cited deferred maintenance and safety issues (for example, inoperable televisions, peeling paint, unsecured wiring, and temperature-control problems). Medication-management practices were questioned by some families, who observed patterns they characterized as promoting excessive sedation or inadequate medication monitoring. Reviewers also described variability in staff responsiveness and tone: while direct-care staff were often praised, other accounts described delays in attending to residents and poor phone responsiveness to families.

Dining and activity programming appear uneven. Positive notes about cook oversight coexist with comments that special-diet accommodations (diabetic or cardiac menus and snacks) and consistent meal access were lacking. Activity participation was an area of concern for immobile or bed-bound residents; reviewers reported limited encouragement or adapted programming for those with reduced mobility. Visitor accommodations and communal entertainment also drew criticism for limited functionality and restrictive visitation practices.

Management and oversight are recurring themes. Several reviewers pointed to administrative turnover and instability, and some referenced Department of Health materials and concerns about the integrity of online ratings, including allegations of incentivized review posting. These patterns suggest variability in the facility’s operational control and external accountability. Taken together, the reviews indicate a facility where direct-care and therapy quality can be strong, but where consistency across shifts, reliable housekeeping and maintenance, dietary and activity continuity, and administrative responsiveness are areas that prospective families should evaluate closely.

For families considering Kadima at Luzerne, an in-person visit that inspects multiple aspects is advisable: observe cleanliness and safety in residents’ rooms and common areas, review medication-administration protocols and staffing levels, ask about dietary accommodations and activity programming for less-mobile residents, request recent regulatory reports, and verify current visitation policies and communication processes. These targeted questions will help clarify whether the facility’s positive clinical strengths are matched by operational reliability on a day-to-day basis.

    About Kadima at Luzerne

Kadima at Luzerne sits in Luzerne, Pennsylvania, and serves as both a nursing home and rehabilitation center with 37 available beds, so it welcomes those needing either short-term rehab or longer-term nursing care, and there's skilled nursing, assisted living, and memory care, too, along with home care support for those who'd prefer help right at home, and caregivers can find respite since short breaks are possible here as well because of their respite care services. The facility sits in a tranquil spot near the Poconos, making it pretty peaceful for recovery or daily life, and the staff focuses on each person's needs with individualized care plans, especially during rehabilitation after surgery or illness, and they keep these plans updated as people progress or recover. There's always a nurse on hand around the clock with a 24-hour call system, and they help with all the basics like bathing, dressing, medication, and transfers, so residents' safety and health come first.

Kadima at Luzerne encourages visits with their open-door visitor policy, so family members can come without worry, and its community feels lively with monthly cooking clubs, visits from musicians, animal visitors, and regular activities put on by both the community and the residents themselves, and there's also a small library, beauty salon services, and a few common areas and outdoor spaces to enjoy, though not much is known about the outdoor features. Resident rooms come fully furnished, and there are both pet-friendly and regular units, plus one to four-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes, housekeeper, and linen service. All rooms have cable TV, Wi-Fi, and telephones, but there's no deep information on the internet or satellite type, parking details, or the kind of flooring you might find inside. The dining services offer appetizing meals with restaurant-style service, meeting dietary needs for diabetes or special restrictions, and meal preparation is included with care. Residents manage personal care and daily tasks with staff help, and after leaving rehabilitation, they get post-discharge check-ins to support their transition.

Kadima at Luzerne gets good marks, sitting at a rating of 8.2 out of 10, and a 4.3 average based on seven public reviews, with people appreciating the welcoming, home-like environment and expert, supportive staff. The facility stands out for its long-term care, skilled nursing, short-term rehab, engaging programs, and the peace of mind of regular family access, with a focus on giving guidance for both residents and families who need help with long-term care or insurance needs.
