    Clean facility with attentive staff

My parent has lived here for a year and I'm very pleased. The facility is very clean with new lounges and a covered courtyard, and new ownership has brought kind, hardworking staff who are attentive to preferences, get meds on time, supervise showers, and handle weekly laundry. They provide three meals plus an evening snack, dementia care, lots of activities (piano/singing, Saturday bingo, big-screen TV) and a friendly, social atmosphere - repainting is planned, so I expect more improvements.

    Summary of reviews

Latrobe Manor elicits a mixed but specific set of impressions. Strengths center on hands-on caregiving and routine clinical supports: comments highlight kind, hardworking staff who attend to preferences, administer medications on schedule, supervise showers, and provide weekly laundry care. The facility offers structured meals (three meals daily plus an evening snack) and a range of activities — music and singing, Saturday bingo, and communal TV viewing — that contribute to resident engagement. The community also provides dementia-care services and is convenient for families who want proximity to home.

Staffing and direct-care practices are a clear asset in many accounts. Multiple comments emphasize respectful, attentive interactions and personal attention; caregivers are credited with being accommodating and consistent in day-to-day tasks. At the same time, there is variation in how families characterize overall care quality, with some expressing dissatisfaction about aspects of service consistency. This suggests that while individual caregiver relationships may be strong, broader operational consistency (scheduling, oversight, or care-plan follow-through) can vary across residents.

Dining and activities are generally viewed positively: offerings are described as acceptable to good, and the schedule includes regular, familiar communal activities that can support socialization. Entertainment and common-area programming (piano/singing, bingo, big-screen TV) are in place and appear active. For families prioritizing engagement and basic dining needs, the programmatic elements are a meaningful strength.

Facility condition and management are areas of divergence. Several comments praise cleanliness and recent additions such as lounges and a covered courtyard, and the new ownership has announced repainting and other improvements. Conversely, other observations describe a dated or worn environment, with furniture and décor that detract from a more uplifting atmosphere. The coexistence of cleanliness with an older-looking physical plant suggests targeted capital improvements are needed to align appearance with service-level strengths.

Notable patterns for prospective residents and families: there is evidence of strong, compassionate frontline staff and dependable daily routines (medication timing, bathing supervision, laundry), paired with variability in facility appearance and occasional concerns about consistency of overall care. The facility is undergoing ownership transition with planned renovations, which may improve appearance and operations but could also produce short-term disruption. When evaluating Latrobe Manor, visitors should tour multiple common areas and a resident room, inquire about the renovation timeline and staffing continuity, ask for specifics about dementia-care programming and quality-assurance processes, and request examples of how care consistency is monitored and measured.

    About Latrobe Manor

LATROBE Manor, which is part of Gables Manor, sits at 501 South Alexandria Street in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and has a medium size with space for 38 residents, though at the time of closing planning, there were 28 people living there, and what you get is a place for seniors or people with disabilities who need help with daily activities, medication, meals, and personal care, and the staff also handles things like skilled nursing, memory care, and home health support for those who want some independence but still require attention or help during the day, and they try to keep folks active with exercises, activities, transportation, and family engagement, and there are studio apartments you can book, though living here needs an entry fee and everything comes as part of an all-inclusive plan, and though they aim to help, some inspections in 2023 showed missed or delayed medical checks, not enough personal care like showers, missing a qualified administrator on-site at times, and citations about not reporting fights or staff problems, which led to the place running with a provisional license set to end in August, and the facility decided to close after a 60-day notice to the authorities because the money side of things didn't work out, and staff are getting chances to work elsewhere in the group that owns them, and besides regular care, there's a Respite Care option for when families need a break, and they run programs like My Adult Foster Care, programs for Alzheimer's, and have a Senior Care Hub, and keep things modern with electronic visit verification and tele-health monitoring, serving meals under the CACFP food program, and there's a booking system for setting up appointments, as services run Monday through Saturday from eight in the morning to five in the evening, while photos and ratings like a 4.0 overall are available for folks wanting a look at how things are, but in the end what stands out is that this is a licensed senior community that tried to cover a lot under one roof, even though there have been ongoing challenges, and now it's winding down operations this year mostly because of money and licensing troubles.
