    Spotless campus friendly staff engaged

I've been very happy living here - the campus and rooms are spotless, the staff are consistently friendly, attentive and knowledgeable, and there are many housing and care options from cottages and apartments to rehab and memory care. The activities, dining and on-site amenities (salon, pool, shop, services) keep me engaged and I truly feel at home.

    Summary of reviews

Homewood Living Martinsburg presents as a well-kept, full-service senior campus with a broad continuum of care and a wide range of on-site amenities. Many reviewers highlight courteous, knowledgeable staff and an overall high level of cleanliness. The campus configuration—with cottages and apartments, private balconies or patios, elevators, outdoor access, and multiple dining venues including a restaurant and cafe—supports independent living alongside assisted living, memory care, rehabilitative services, and hospice. The community also emphasizes social programming: an active activities calendar, frequent outings, crafts, and an engaged activities director draw frequent positive comments.

Care and staffing impressions are mixed. Numerous accounts praise attentive and compassionate caregivers, prompt nursing when available, and staff who create a welcoming social environment. However, other accounts describe inconsistencies in personal-care responsiveness, including delays in bathing or assistance, and examples where therapy or scheduled services were not delivered as expected. There are also concerning mentions about medication handling and administration practices; these raise questions about medication-management controls and documentation. In at least one instance reviewers used stronger language about financial and consent interactions; those claims are characterized here as allegations that prospective families should evaluate directly with management and regulatory records.

Dining and value impressions are similarly split. The facility offers multiple dining options, menu variety, and meal-delivery service, and some reviewers called the food good and the restaurant/cafe exceptional. Conversely, others felt the meal quality did not align with the program’s price point, expressing perceived value concerns. Prospective residents should sample meals during a visit and ask about dining plans and alternatives.

Programming, social life, and amenities receive consistent praise. Reviewers point to an active schedule of activities, outings, religious services, and opportunities to meet new people. On-site services such as a rehab center, salon, pool, workout equipment, and a small retail presence were described as convenient complements to daily life. The campus is repeatedly called picturesque and peaceful by supporters.

Operational and environmental issues deserve attention during a tour. Several reviewers noted noise and architectural limitations in congregate areas (for example persistent beeping), a need for improvements in common-area atmosphere and décor, and variability in room sizes. Safety-related concerns appear in reports of falls and mobility limitations; combined with some comments about limited therapy time and supervised-only movement, these suggest families should inquire about fall-prevention protocols, staffing levels, and therapy scheduling. Pricing was described as high by multiple reviewers, so clarity on what is included in fees and comparisons with peer communities is advised.

In summary, Homewood Living Martinsburg shows many attributes of a well-resourced senior community: robust amenities, active programming, a generally clean environment, and staff members many find courteous and compassionate. At the same time, notable patterns in reviewer feedback point to inconsistencies in personal-care responsiveness, rehabilitation delivery, medication-management controls, and certain environmental/atmosphere issues. Prospective residents and families should conduct an on-site visit (including meal times and activity periods), meet nursing and rehab leadership, review therapy schedules and documentation practices, ask for specifics about medication administration and financial/consent procedures, and request recent inspection or complaint records to form a balanced view before committing.

    About Homewood Living Martinsburg

Homewood Living Martinsburg has been serving older adults for over 90 years, offering a range of care and housing from independent living cottages and apartments to assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, and even hospice and respite services, so folks can move between levels of care without having to leave the community, and while there's not a lot of detailed information available about the facility itself, one will see spacious options for living, from two-bedroom cottages with handicap-accessible bathrooms to apartments with private baths, Wi-Fi, cable TV, patios or balconies, and typical home appliances-there's a real focus on helping residents stay comfortable and as independent as possible with help always nearby thanks to a 24-hour emergency call system, on-site health support, and transportation options, which is important because there have been deficiencies noted for care planning and ensuring services meet professional standards, plus infection control issues found in inspection reports, so it's something that stays on one's mind.

Some staff like Buffy Bradley and Robin Stern have been managing the place since 2025 and 2019, and although there's a helpful, joyful, and kind atmosphere and staff are often praised for creating a welcoming place with high-quality activities, the nurse turnover rate sits at 24.6% in a year, with an average of 4.33 nurse hours per resident per day, which paints a picture of the care environment. Residents take part in fitness programs, movie nights, music events, and enjoy the indoor pool, spa, arts room, garden, bocce and shuffleboard courts, library, walking trails, game room, club house, and cafe, and there's even a unique dry cleaning drop-off, which isn't seen much in other places nearby, and outdoor areas like a lawn, picnic area, gazebo, and water feature add to the country-living feel, especially at Spring House.

Homewood Living Martinsburg is run by a non-profit corporation and has 129 certified beds, offers rehab and long-term skilled nursing, independent lifestyle apartments, and a continuing care retirement community model, so people aged 65 and up can plan for their future all in one place, and since it's maintenance-free living, residents don't have to worry so much about appliances or home repairs, plus, they get amenities like a business center, fitness center, bicycle storage, salon, conference room, and lounge, and the security features-controlled access and night patrol-help people feel a bit safer. Small and large dogs, as well as cats, are allowed, and there are long lease options, which means people can really settle in, and for those who need it, there are caregivers and 24-hour supervision, medication management, support with bathing and dressing, and special attention for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, including secure memory care to keep folks from wandering and getting lost, and meals aim to be nutritious, focusing on good quality ingredients and balanced nutrition.

Communities like this connect families to local senior care advisors for help and guidance, but it's important to note that in recent reports, managers and staff have faced inspection citations for things like not developing complete care plans on time and issues in infection protection, so families should weigh the friendly, active feel of the place alongside those documented concerns when considering Homewood Living Martinsburg.
