    Kind staff and excellent amenities

I moved my mother to Richland Place and have been very pleased - the staff are kind, professional and treat residents with dignity, and the campus is beautiful, super-clean and well-kept. Great food, a popular pool, top-notch physical therapy, lots of activities (concerts, classes, gardening) and convenient location with multiple care levels make it easy to recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Richland Place presents a mixed profile: many reviewers describe an upscale, well-appointed campus with strong amenities and robust rehabilitation services, while others report operational gaps that affect clinical care and family confidence.

Care quality: The facility receives consistent praise for its on-site rehabilitation and physical therapy programs, with several accounts of effective therapy and positive functional outcomes. At the same time, reviewers describe inconsistent clinical-care delivery in other areas — examples include missed medication administration, delays in attending to resident needs, and uneven pain management. These accounts indicate variability in clinical processes rather than a uniform standard of care.

Staff: Staff interactions are a prominent strength and a source of concern. Numerous comments highlight professional, caring, and helpful employees and positive customer-service experiences. However, there are also reports of brusque or unhelpful staff behavior and variability in responsiveness. Staffing shortages and instances of delayed assistance were cited as factors contributing to uneven resident experience and communication breakdowns with families.

Dining and activities: Dining is frequently noted as a positive feature — meals are described as appealing and varied, and food-service programming (including tastings and social dining) is a recurring highlight. The activity program appears broad and active, with live concerts, clubs, exercise classes, water activities, and organized social events contributing to resident engagement. Some residents prefer fewer activities or expressed a desire for more independence; activity participation may vary by unit and individual interest.

Facilities and amenities: The campus and interiors are commonly described as elegant and well maintained, with attractive common areas, a grand piano, and pleasant landscaping. Fitness and aquatic facilities are available and well received. Conversely, some units — particularly shared rooms or certain long-term care areas — were described as small or lacking natural light. There were also isolated sanitation and housekeeping concerns, including failures to complete promised cleanups after incontinence-related incidents, which signal gaps in housekeeping responsiveness and follow-through.

Management and administration: Recurring themes include inconsistent communication with families, challenges during admissions and placement transitions, and issues around billing and payment transparency. Specific complaints include large upfront payment requests and billing disputes, as well as perceived discrepancies in how certain payer types are handled. These administrative issues have affected trust for some families and warrant direct inquiry during tours and move-in planning.

Notable patterns and guidance: Overall, Richland Place offers many of the features expected of an upscale continuing-care campus — quality dining, therapy services, varied activities, and attractive facilities. However, there is variability in daily-care execution, staffing responsiveness, sanitation follow-through, and financial/placement practices. Prospective residents and families should verify current staffing levels, medication-administration protocols, housekeeping procedures, room configurations (private vs. shared), and billing terms before committing. Asking for recent outcome measures, a tour of both residential and skilled-nursing areas, and references from current residents can help clarify whether the facility’s strengths align with a specific resident’s needs.

    About Richland Place

Richland Place sits in Nashville's West End neighborhood and serves adults aged 55 and over who want independent living, assisted living, or health care all in one place, and it's managed by National Healthcare Corporation (NHC), which brings long experience. The community offers one, two, and three-bedroom homes on five floors, with floor plans ranging from about 740 to 3,000 square feet, and each home has a patio or balcony, a fully equipped kitchen, updated bathrooms, and appliances, so residents can keep their daily routines while enjoying extra support. Elmington Suites is their name for assisted living, where staff provide personal help and housekeeping, meals served daily, 24-hour security, access to nursing and therapy services, and on-site beauty and barber appointments. Housekeeping, linen service, and scheduled transportation are regular features, along with a menu of daily activities and several clubs, and the monthly Resident Council meetings help residents have a say in how things run, while three residents even serve on the board of directors which is a nice way to include the people who live here.

Richland Place is a continuing care retirement community, so people can move from independent living to higher levels of support like assisted living or long-term skilled nursing care, hospice, or memory care as needed, all without having to leave the campus. The Life Care Package covers weekly housekeeping, linen services, meals, security, medical alert systems, planned events, and guaranteed health care, and there's priority placement if someone needs to move into assisted living or the Health Center, which has 131 licensed beds for skilled nursing, intermediate care, rehab, and hospice. There's 24-hour registered nurse coverage at the Health Center, on-site nurse practitioners and physicians on call, and access to restorative therapies like physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory therapy. They provide dental, podiatry, mental health, pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology services, and most rooms can be private or shared, with luxury finishes or extra dens for those wanting more space. Many services, like personal laundry or restorative therapies, are available for extra fees.

Residents can find several features on site, such as three elevators, an emergency pull-cord system, individually controlled thermostats, fire alarms, smoke detectors, and sprinklers in every apartment. For fun and fitness, there's a heated indoor saltwater pool, a full fitness center with organized exercise classes, billiards and games rooms, a movie theater, a library, meeting rooms, walking areas, and more than a dozen social and activity clubs from book groups to yoga. There's fine dining with restaurant-style meals, a soda shop and deli, private dining rooms for family visits, and guest rooms for overnight visitors, plus postal, dry cleaning, beauty salon, and banking services right on site. Residents use a No Risk Rental Program if they don't want to buy in, with both unlimited term rentals and the usual entry and monthly service fees for those who want a guaranteed spot long term; entry fees range from $368,500 to $795,500, and monthly service fees depend on the chosen floor plan, which includes luxury units and homes with dens.

Richland Place supports people who have Alzheimer's or other dementia, offering memory care and on-site skilled care, and the Health Center has nurses and emergency help available 24 hours, with the promise that people can stay within the community even as their needs change. They also handle personal transportation, daily recreation, dietary services, and access to therapeutic and medical care, accepting most medical insurance as allowed by Medicare. The focus at Richland Place is on creating a safe, comfortable place where residents keep as much independence as they'd like, with support when needed, and the whole setup is made for older adults who want both privacy and help close by, in a calm, well-maintained Nashville setting that people have trusted since 1971.
