    Long stay with outstanding care

I stayed 13 months and overall had a very positive experience. The staff were attentive and caring-Therapy (Scottie, Kerry and team) worked wonders, nursing and CNAs treated me like family, the facility was clean and home-like with nice grounds and rooms, communication and admissions were smooth, and meals/accommodations were good; I'd happily recommend Diversicare for rehab and nursing.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression Experiences at Diversicare of Oak Ridge are highly polarized. A substantial portion of reviews describe successful rehabilitation outcomes, strong therapy services, and compassionate direct-care staff. At the same time, a notable portion raise operational and clinical concerns that prospective residents and families should evaluate during a tour and pre-admission conversation.

Care quality and clinical oversight Therapy services (physical and occupational) receive consistent positive feedback for effectiveness and outcomes; several reviewers credited therapists with facilitating safe discharges home. Nursing and CNA performance is frequently praised by families for attentiveness and individualized bedside care. However, reviews also describe systemic clinical weaknesses: inconsistent medication and oxygen administration practices, missed or delayed medication doses, unclear wound-care and medication-timing instructions, and gaps in documented care plans. These patterns suggest variability in clinical handoffs and in on-site physician/advanced-practice coverage, which can affect continuity of care.

Staff and communication Many staff members are identified as compassionate, proactive, and problem-solving, and admissions/transitional liaisons are repeatedly singled out for helpfulness. Conversely, the facility appears to struggle with staffing shortages and turnover; high workload and short staffing are linked to delayed responses to call lights and inconsistent communication with families. Reviews note variability in staff conduct and tone, and frequent management changes contribute to communication gaps and inconsistent policy enforcement.

Dining and activities The activities program is a clear strength, with regular offerings such as bingo, movie nights, outings, and spiritual experiences that families and residents value. Dining feedback is mixed: dietary accommodations are available and praised in many cases, but food quality and portion sizes are described as inconsistent. Some residents adapt well to menu options while others experienced dissatisfaction that impacted intake.

Facilities and environment Physical spaces are often described as clean, well-kept, and home-like, with a secure courtyard and pleasant outdoor areas. Private rooms with storage and good views are available for some residents. At the same time, the building is older in places; small double rooms with a single shared bathroom and reports of sanitation or odor concerns and pest-control issues were raised, indicating variability across units.

Management, safety, and notable patterns Management-related themes include frequent leadership turnover, inconsistent family communication, and billing or financial-process concerns. There are allegations concerning missing personal items and financial misconduct; these are serious claims that families should verify through documentation and facility policy review and, if needed, channel to appropriate oversight entities. A number of reviews also cite lapses leading to regulatory involvement or Ombudsman communication. Overall, negative experiences often cluster around periods of understaffing or administrative change, while positive experiences are commonly linked to rehab/therapy stays and specific committed staff members.

Guidance for families Given the polarized feedback, prospective residents and families would be prudent to schedule an in-person visit, request current staffing and medical-coverage information, review sample care plans and medication-administration protocols, ask about recent regulatory surveys or investigations, and observe mealtimes and an activities session. Asking for references from recent rehab discharges and clarifying the facility's policies on personal belongings and incident reporting may also help assess fit for either short-term rehab or long-term care needs.
